Today, I'm breaking down the research and talking about 5 of the most common oils: Olive, Canola, Coconut, Grapeseed, and Avocado.
I'm sharing everything from the smoke point to the health benefits of each one so that you can make the best decision when it comes to cooking oils!
As always, links to the research mentioned in this video are available on my website, Whitney E. RD: www.whitneyerd.com/2020/05/ho...

Whitney, your videos are way underrated. You bring a common sense approach to the most important aspect of self care. It's beyond me why your videos aren't trending. Be patient, God will reward those who work hard and are honest. Blessings.

I actually have some grape seed oil that I use in my Whirley Pop Popcorn Marker. But I usually avoid added oils after I watched Forks Over Knives and became a whole foods plant based vegan in 2011. But I really enjoyed this video and maybe I should relax about using some added oil at times. I'm over 60 now, and I think I will start to listen to people like you and Brenda Davis more.

I follow the no fat vegan doctors, Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. Greger, Dr. McDougal etc. I get all the fats I need from whole food sources. Nuts and seeds, beans, avocadoes etc.

That's definitely an option and as I noted in the videos, may be beneficial for adults with heart disease!

Which is the #1 cause of death, so most people have it or are in the process of getting it. Too highly processed, high in calories compared to unprocessed foods and not necessary just like sugar. That being said when I go out to eat occasionally I know there is oil added in most cases, but I’m definitely not adding to my food at home.

I use Coconut, Grapeseed, Avocado & Extra Virgin Olive. Though I did not know about the chemical processing of Hex….something. I’ll have to look at what I have and look at ensuring I get pressed from now on.

I try to only use olive oil because I do notice that upping my omega 3 while reducing omega 6 inflames me less with my endometriosis. But I love your videos on moderation. I follow the science not fad diets but was getting pulled too heavily first into Paleo and then into low fat high carb 100 vegan. I have always believes more in intuitive eating before I knew the name because in nature we dont have chronometer, nutrition labels, calorie counting or macro counting. Plus the centinareans in Blue Zones are not vegan. Even the california one some are vegetarian or meat on occasion. But Blue Zoners eat meet like once a week in family dinners. Meat inflames me, I feel it the next day, however a life without occasional lamb or chicken with my hispanic family was getting hard to imagine. My husband and I are planning on continuing plant based (we did veganuary) but allowing ourselves the occasional meat dish as a treat. (Anyone reading this watch her vid on her food philosophy). Its also the only way to get my carnivore husband on board and save him from complications of a meat heavy diet that we were following. For oils I use olive oil because mostly omega 9 but for some dishes I use some coconut oil for flavor or avo oil to not burn food if I am lightly frying. In fact I used to use butter for higher heat cooking for that reason but avo oil is healthier and I eliminated butter from our diet.

Another great common sense video. What's your take on sunflower oil? I have been using one from spectrum. My reasoning has been that we eat sunflower seeds but not rape seeds. I have had stents so I use small amounts just to be safe(r)-ish
@WhitneyERDN

Thank you! I would consume sunflower oil it in moderation as it is higher in the omega-6 fatty acids and those with heart disease may benefit from a lower fat diet.

It’s a challenge to eat out because many restaurants use very cheap / reused / ultra processed oils - to save money & make more profit. I get terrible reactions to these oils.

I like your videos and your interview with Dr Longo...but...the fat you eat is the fat you wear, and this is especially try of processed fat sources such as oil. 2 Tbsp of oil a day for 2 weeks is 1 lb of fat. It adds up fast.
