After watching the Twin Towers collapse on 9/11, Noah Galloway immediately enlisted in the military at just 21 years old. Three months into his second deployment, an IED exploded, ripping apart the Humvee he was driving and nearly ending his life. He awoke five days later to find both his left arm and left leg amputated. After he finally returned home, he was overcome by a deep depression. When his marriage dissolved and he spent 10 days in county jail for a DUI, he knew he had to turn his life around.
Determined to be a good role model for his children, he slowly clawed his way out of depression and into the gym to begin his mental and physical rebirth. His grit and determination began to attract media attention, landing him on the cover of Men’s Health Magazine and multiple TV appearances on Ellen, The Today Show, and the military-inspired competition series American Grit. He also earned third place on Dancing With the Stars. Get inspired to live with no excuses by this author, retired Army Sergeant and real American hero in this episode of Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu.

I'm not kidding when I say that the market crash and high inflation have me really stressed out and worried about retirement. I've been in the red for a while now and although people say these crisis has it perks, I'm losing my mind but I get it Investing is a long-term game, so focus on the long run.

I can’t focus on the long run when I should be retiring in 3years, you see I’ve got good companies in my portfolio and a good amount invested, but my profit has been stalling, does it mean this recession/unstable market doesn’t provide any calculated risk opportunities to make profit?

One of the best episodes if you're interested in Leadership and Service. I had prejudices before watching this video. I was expecting blind patriotism. Boy, was I wrong. I don't agree at all with the US foreign policy since the cold war and I think supremacy is not a viable long term strategy. That being said, here is what think after watching this video: Very touching, emotional and badass. Noah is a human being connected with his fellow men and women and honor the children and his responsibility towards them. He developed tons of strength and integrity in his life as I understand he has not always been the man he is now. He's a very courageous man as he looked himself in the mirror and keep doing it. For this, I salute him. Too many people are still afraid of themselves. Acknowledging his country is young is also rarely heard. So props to his humility as well. He is a man of service, for sure. He is loyal to the motto of the warrior: "To Serve and Protect". Very inspiring. As well, he's one of the few guests that matches Tom's "vibrational state". Noah is as alive as it gets.

This guy has an amazing story, no doubt, but this talk did very little to address dealing with , or defeating, depression. People suffering with depression, or anxiety, aren't making excuses. There are traumas, issues with lifestyle, relationships, mind states and even dietary contributions to the conditions and you guys didn't do much more than pat this dude on the back some more for overcoming his adversity. Again, this guy seems great, has achieved amazing things, and I dont' want to take anything away from what he's done and continues to do, but this video/talk doesn't help people with depression. It doesn't address any of the issues we're trying to overcome. I've spent the last 5 years trying to beat anxiety/hypochondria and depressive episodes and I'm not making excuses. It's a challenge to change so much about yourself in order to make it day to day.

Ash Schultz When people say its hard to change? "Usually it is because you don't want to stop the wrong you have been doing." I found it hard to agree with that statement. You may even argue that you aren't doing anything wrong but, if you weren't doing something wrong, you wouldn't be depressed. Anyway you kinda attacked this video/talk regarding the fact it did not taclke "depression" or how to overcome it. BUT if you follow the interview, Tom B. tries to ask the veteran if his story of overcoming depression could be modeled after by people who may be battling depression due to other factors, not similar to his situation. Videos like this, I find (hence the name "Impact Theory) help others going through SIMILAR or same situations, be inspired, to come up (in theory)with their own solutions suited to there situations, using principles that others like the veteran have successfully or progressively used to overcome or deal with their depression. If anything? The title of this talk/video, is the only thing, i agree, that would throw you off, as an individual seeking help regarding depression.

Mazy Greatness Depression is a biological disease, the same as someone with diabetes. You wouldn’t tell someone with type 1 diabetes “you’re obviously doing something wrong, tell your liver to start functioning normally.” There are clear biochemical, genetic components that are telltale signs that someone is suffering with depression. I would encourage you to watch Stanford’s Robert Sapolsky’s lecture on depression. As he says, depression is not “come on, snap out of it.” Depression screams biology. To say to someone with depression that it is their fault is incredibly ignorant.

Ash Schultz, I'm in no way a trained specialist on the matters concerning depression. "You wouldn't say to someone with a broken leg, shake it off... its all in your leg." - Guy Winch: How to practice emotional first aid, I recommed for you to check this out, something I just thought to share. Also thanx for your recommendation.

Ash Schultz, also u spoke about how it was a challenge for you to have had to make changes to your life, going day to day. To be clear i wasnt implying that being depressed is someones fault. Rather, what I had wanted to bring out was how change in itself, in whatever situation is trying and that any "talks" such as the interview held, pointing out how an individual had gone about "changing" their own life regardless of their situation, is what could be taken away from the discussion (rather than the misleading title of it all).

One of my favorite quotes is "we suffer more in our imagination than we do in reality" and I have come to realise that is so true for depression. There may be dissatisfaction with our lives, real problems that have caused us to become the way we are and even biological reasons I get it. I also get your frustration struggling everyday with something that other people do easily enough, going back and forth between thinking you are better and then seeing you are not. Someone said in the comments that depression is like any other sickness and I have to disagree with them, if you get diabetes there is a known cause and a known treatment. Depression is all in the mind, and more times than not you cant even understand it, you the person who is actually going through it. And I have read all the books and they validated me, made me feel like there was a reason I was the way I was and people just didn't understand me and no one got what I was going through and at the end I was still feeling like shit everyday and everyone else was going on with their lives. I also know people who are also depressed and I am ashamed to say its a lot to take and a lot to deal with. I havent defeated my demons but I have realised that the most important thing is actually realising that no matter how valid you are, you are the one suffering and the one who has a problem, and the one who has the responsbility. No one will ever understand what's going on with you, so you have to be your own solution and that includes making no excuses, especially to yourself. I would like to believe the other side of depression is ambition, most successful people have been through so much trauma and so much including Noah in the video and they have managed to change their perspective and channel their feelings towards something outside instead of internally and like he said that takes having something stronger than what you are feeling. Its weird that I am starting to realise that I am actually luckier than other "happier" people around me because my depression has caused me to really dig into myself and start to become more self aware and discover so much that I wouldnt have any other way. I would like to believe its an opportunity to recreate myself into something more beautiful and I am hoping to re-channel my feelings into ambition and actually make something of myself. It has taken me a lot of years to get here and stop feeling hopeless and helpless about my life and I totally understand how terrible depression is. But a truth I have realised is you are going to have to be your own hero and that's not a bad thing

Love that Noah enjoys The Golden Girls series & The Notebook. I too enjoy the GOLDEN Girls sense of humor and the delivery genious of the actors. The Notebook's beautiful story of life-long connected hearts! Great genuinely inspiring interview with this authentic young man! I am so grateful for his service. My brother was a Marine in the 1970's and never was the same since that impact. He decided the depression he struggled with was too overwhelming after so many years and decided the last day on earth for him would be 3/26/15! God bless all who are surviving the depression and I pray they are able to find ways to cope and recover fully from that debilitating disease. my wish for all: Be Engaged, Be Enlightened, and Be Empowered! "i'm okay with death" I know that feeling, yet if i don't have to i don't want to. i never thought of it before like he put it. I'm a war veteran. I remember getting my affairs in order and how my mindset was to make it easy for those i may not see again. I wrote a blank check and hid it in my car that was in storage. My thought was, that my mom could empty my account without a lot of headaches. Great show, thanks.

Wow..."If you have a vision and it was taken away, you don't know where your going. You have nowhere to look but to the past." My life was derailed 4 years ago. Lost everything I worked towards for 25 years. That comment is exactly what I struggle with. For the first time, in almost 50 years of life, I have no idea where I am going, and what I am doing. So strange to be a shell of a person with nothing in me. Hearing that comment makes me at least know that others have experienced this.

Those are quite impressive achievements for a human in his situation, it is indeed inspirational and there is no denying that he is a Warrior. Shows that there really are no excuses when it comes to doing what is necessary to get back up and fight for what one believes and wants to achieve in life. However, glorifying the American military, man .. not cool ... Wherever US army has set their foot, the country falls apart, becomes poor, poorer, is ground leveled,... This is NOT the way to fight corruption in our world, this makes it worse. This does not only concern US military, by the way. David Goggins is also a military man, yet his story packed so much more punch than this, and in a more empowering way from a personal growth standpoint. Still a good interview, though. Captain America shirt, nice touch :)

women are statistically more likely tied up in base grunt work of raising kids, doing the grocery-feed cycle, dishes, laundry, scrub down toilets, etc. Which diminishes the ability to go out and conquer the world AND provide at least one parent present, attentive, engaged at the same time to keep the family emotionally healthy simultaneously. Repetitive, essential, never ending, grunt work bogs anyone down, kills sexual energy, and must be collaboratively shared amongst adults/parners. Making kids do work is nice but it is still work, delegating work to younger "employees", versus having each others back in the trench with your adult team mate. If your team mate goes out to combat while you hang back and hold the fort, and he/she comes back and says... "you know, i went out to work, my job is done so I am back to rest and get served" you'd probably want to shoot em. Men and women who can run the house AND be on Tom Bilyeu are awesome! The people that he interviews, how much responsibility at home do they actually do? Or do they only have to tend to themselves and pick up their own toilet paper and razors at the store for just themselves? Lol

17:20 question: how many Americans were aware of what the Taliban were up to in Afghanistan before 911? I remember seeing footage of public executions on UK TV back in 1998/9, but nobody apart from the international NGOs and the northern Afghan armed coalition cared. (And then Bush2 sidelined the north Afghan leaders and installed a weak puppet, just like Iraq, who immediately lost ground, just like Iraq :- but that's another story of incompetence and lining the pockets of donors and family associates)

This guy s sorely mistaken if he thinks that men are motivated to get financial success to look after their family. Men look after themselves and there are a few exceptions to the rule. I believe because I have yet to meet a man that hasn't cheated on his wife - but I still believe because I want to believe that they are out there in the face of all evidence to the contrary.
