As a mother of young kids (two toddlers and an elementary schooler) I am very familiar with the demands of early motherhood. It is exhausting. It is extra exhausting when we have young babies and need to be up with them in the night - breast feeding/formula feeding, changing diapers, and whatever else a sweet new baby requires during those precious hours when we used to be sleeping. Aside from sleep training, which is something that every family needs to decide for themselves, there are other ways we can feel more rested inside of motherhood (and parenthood in general). Here are my thoughts! If you have any other comments for moms and dads in the thick of baby raising, please let us know!

Jess, this girl definitely knows what she's talking about. You have helped me so much since my five-year old was born - I never used to watch youtube but as a single, rural, lonely mum still shellshocked from becoming a mum, and grieving my son's dad's leaving me, I think i typed in something desperate and by some good fortune, you came up. Your warm, kind, genuine and humorous wisdom made me feel things were maybe manageable, and that there might still be a bit of me that i liked still left... Anyway, i just wanted to say thanks for putting your lovely self out there.

Thanks for this great video Jessica 😍 I have a one year old and currently in my first trimester of baby 2 … something that has so randomly helped me is making the occasional video talking about how I feel (just for myself) watching it back and i have a lot of empathy and understanding from that perspective. It really helps to pinpoint the worries and see them for what they are! How we talk to ourself really matters and I’m so aware of that too !

Love love love! My husband and I currently have 2 boys, almost 2 and 6 months old and wow, we're constantly juggling, whether it be feeding, bathing, playing, diffusing a tantrum etc and it's so darn exhausting. I'm a SAHM too so the fatigue is so real. I often get annoyed when I feel like I'm the 'default parent' but sometimes, as women it's hard to speak up and ask our partners for help. So grateful for Jess and this channel as it's so real and raw, thank you ❤️

This is very much the video I needed. I have a four month old (first kid) and I know it sounds dramatic but I literally feel like I’m dying sometimes I’m so tired. Waking up to feed all night long for four months straight has been way harder than I imagined. My husband also has to work a lot so it’s mostly all on me. Any content like this is great for me because I need to know that I’m not alone. I don’t know many people with kids at this time so sometimes I feel like an island amidst a bunch of well rested people complaining that they’re tired 😂 thank you for the video!

Doesn’t sound dramatic to me - I felt those feelings too! Hang in there! If you need friends join our VGMC zoom calls that we do inside our membership community! There are lots of moms with babies your age who can relate and we can all help each other be okay! If you can’t though I appreciate you watching this video & sharing your thoughts! Congratulations on your little one and give yourself a lot of grace to handle life right now - you guys are carrying a lot! ❤️

Sleep training was a life saver. He loves bedtime. He tells me when he's ready for bed (between 5-7pm), I hand him his bottle, he marches into bed and kicks me out after I tuck him in. Wake up is 6:30-7:30am.

When I saw the title I started shaking my head and then saw it was you and was like, “alright this will be honest and good.” Glad I watched! Mom and three and 7 month old is going through that sleep regression this and went from sleeping through the night to waking up 20 times a night, which rippled and now the other kids are not sleeping well. Ugh. Sleep torture is so maddening and causes depression.

Thank you for sharing, I really enjoy your channel! You mentioned that your living space is small, and I'm sure a lot of families struggle with space! I would be interested to see how you manage your space and storage, and is there room-sharing for your little ones and how that works/how they find it? Things that have and haven't worked maybe would be great for a future video :) Thank you, and have a lovely Christmas and New Year!

Love this! And yes, when you publish new content - I am notified :) I remember being soooo tired raising kids! And when the grandkids are here… that makes me tired too but not like the moms and dads! So glad my youngest grandkid is finally sleep trained! I LOVE the plant analogy ❤ I’m on the other side of motherhood - my advice is make those memories that you can look back on - some of my favorite memories are simple - like taking the kids out to drive through rain puddles and listen to them laugh. Or a simple dinner of spaghetti and eating with hands only. You don’t need Disneyland or a huge trip to make a memory. And I took plenty of naps when my kids napped - probably twice a week or so. You’ll get through the crying. Sometimes just changing the environment- a screaming kid into the bathtub will change everything. Not always but most times.

Aw I love you thanks for watching and commenting :) I always wonder what you were like when the boys were little - before we met you. You don’t seem like the napping type 😂 I remember you taking us all in the car on the big hills in Black Forest, listening to loud music and laughing so hard. Such good memories and not as expensive as Disney. You’re a good mom :) I am so thankful for you.

Thank you for your words of advice and wisdom. I feel less alone listening to your life experiences and perspectives! I as well struggle with depression + a sprinkle of anxiety and panic. I so needed someone to talk about how nobody really cares or wants to know how you’re doing as a mom. It’s as if you’re bothering people for telling them you’re overwhelmed and struggling. But then when you’re in extreme crisis everyone wants to say “why didn’t you ask for help”? I’m like--I’ve been saying how tired I am and how hard it is and everyone just kept saying “it’s part of being a mom, comes with the job”--which is such a slap in the face bc nobody ever gets it. I know I’m tired with days that I’m depressed and so anxious I can’t even understand how I’m supposed to be everyone’s everything. Ugh. Thank you for the realness of that cartoon with the house on fire while you’re saying “I’m fine”.

When you said that you feel like you're on all the time and waking up and going to bed to crying children. Yes to both of these! Lately I'm struggling with these things. I'd also like to see what the brain does when it is being cried and whined at lol I know mine doesn't do well with it! Trying to figure out how to balance finding time to feel like myself, stay connected with my husband, be present and patient with my kids, work. It seems impossible. I know it's just a phase but right now I feel defeated.

Could you do a video on capturing sweet moments or moments you don't want to forget? I have a 5 yr journal when I had my second baby and I don't keep up every day but I've been logging some cool moments and every day there's a fun or thoughtful prompt that helps me write a super short and sweet memory or thought. Do you keep a journal or note on your phone or something?

Hey thanks for the vid 😊 definitely helps! My baby just turned 6 months today! Something I've been struggling with is raising this little girl with my partner and neither of us have good relationships with our families so we really don't have much help or moral support in person. Would you do a video on how to both cope AND how to find that kind of community without needing to spend money? Thanks xo

I second this! We have no family near, moved to a new place recently, so no friendships yet, and we're not comfortable leaving our kid with someone we found on internet. & we both work full time, so no chance of reconnecting during childcare hours... We need "flesh and bone", in person, community...

Great video, not just for parents, but for anyone living in high demand situation with their family role, work or else. I have 3 more suggestions: small daily routines, doing something you love every day and stay away from social media comparison trap. For daily routines you can look up The Secret Slob (or FlyLady system). That helps you like you still have accomplished something important even if it was just get dressed and eating breakfast. Tiny habits also is a good tool. Doing something you love is like take your oxygen mask first before helping others: you need to be your own n. 1 priority, for as long as you live!
