Every killer in Scream VI gives themselves away at one point or another. But what are the clues we need to be looking out for. Based on the theory of the Predictive Killer Edit, any one of us can correctly guess the identity of Ghostface before the mask comes off, so it's just a matter of differentiating the specific character types, as that will allow us to understand the traits that either rule out a suspect, or shoot them to the top of the list.
The Predictive Killer Edit applies to all of the Scream movies, so make sure to check out my other video detailing how the edit works in the franchise overall. That way you will have a head start in figuring out the killer/s whenever the eventual Scream 7 is released.

Her behavior in general was sketchy. I immediately knew she and the cop were the killers, I thought the third one was a red herring, making him her brother was also lame. He should have remained a red herring that just leaves. This movie had potential and the weak writing for the three killers was a major letdown.

Ethan was a very reluctant Ghostface. This was cemented for me when Detective Bailey mentioned the connection that a man has to his **first** son. The dejected look on Ethan's face directly after that line was very telling. The poor boy is left feeling very second rate and forced to prove himself that he is just as worthy of their father's love as Richie was.

I don't think Ethan saving Mindy was that much of a dumb decision since he was in public and he probably assumed it would've looked suspicious if he was seen walking away from an injured passanger. Also in case Mindy survived (which she did), she would’ve absolutely called him out.

For me Quinn was the most obviously killer. Her dropped line about a brother dying was a dead give away. At least when Billy dropped the line about his mom it was in comparison to Sydney’s mom & did make Billy seem more like a dick. Then there was the brilliance of reusing that scene as a Stab scene in Scream 2 to foreshadow the Mrs Loomis reveal. That’s another thing that was missing from Scream 6

It's getting really hard to truly subvert expectations these days. The only slasher I've seen recently that was truly amazing in its deftness of storytelling to pull of a major twist was Bodies, Bodies, Bodies and that's the kind of twist that can only be done once. I truly think Scream 7 would do better to completely upend the narrative and reveal one or more of its killers immediately (a trick 6 teased very briefly). To have the audience in on the "mystery" from the get-go would be a pretty great subversion and offer some new and interesting ways of telling a Scream story.

Scream 6's big issue was not enough new characters who were fleshed out and not enough deaths. They had six returning characters and all of them survived, that has NEVER happened in a Scream film. Up until scream 4, a returning character died in each film. There was no risk in this film, thus putting the deaths on their friends, but Quinn "died" too early, Anika wasn't fleshed out, and Danny was never at any risk with his limited screen time.
@ZackCherry

I think they had enough characters, they just didn’t use them appropriately. They were also all crammed together in the same scenes. Separate them more, give their whereabouts a sense of mystery. Honestly seeing how Scream V and VI were parallels to 1 and 2, with VI's killers being "family of killer from 1st in the trilogy" the same way that 2's killer was, I can't help but wonder if Scream 7 is going to reveal a villain who's "pulling the strings from the beginning" or "tied to the story at its core, or has relevance to all three movies based on a connection to the main character."

It would be cool if Scream 7 revealed Christina Carpenter to be an original accomplice to Billy (the Ghostface in the bathroom scene) and someone who introduced Richie and Amber (Richie on the phone call said that he met Christina in "group" never specifies which one and also met Amber in a Stab group). It would take a fair bit of development in film because she cut Sam off last film, but it would also be cool if her goal is just to get Sam to embrace her dark side by killing Tara, and if a second Ghostface is necessary, they could retcon that she planted Danny in Sam's life

I feel no one is really giving Danny enough credit for being consistent in his character. Like in Zack's very own video he says if a character (Like Ethan in the movie) was shifting constantly from positive to negative would be the killer except if it was to educate the MC or immediately proceeded by a funny moment. Danny only shifted from positive to negative when Anika died. And that was to educate Sam on not to trust anyone, including him and when Sam decided not to trust Danny, he accepted it instead of throwing some sort of fit. Also, it's a shame that they didn't kill Date Rape Franky. They could've added another body for the killers.

Detective Bailey was so easy to figure out because he was a cop, him & Kirby would be the only ones who would have access to all the shrine stuff, then him suspecting Kirby for no reason also gave him away. The shrine is not possible even as a cop. It's evidence from more places than one No police force with it in the evidence room, would never let them have it. Something I thought was kind of a missed opportunity was that Ethan could've been revealed way earlier when Quinn stabbed Mindy on the train. I feel like it not only would've been creepier if he watched it happen and didn't do anything to stop it, but also taunted Mindy that she was right about his identity as a killer, maybe even shutting her eyes if she died. It would've not only subverted the formula, but it always would've been a great parallel to Randy's death in Scream 2. Hell, even if the writers wanted her to survive, she could've fought back and found a way to get to the theater to warn everyone. Maybe even make a joke out of it where she and Chad were on separate stretchers being carted to the hospital. I feel like Ethan saving her makes no sense considering how badly he wants to live up to the example that Richie set before him that his dad covets so much. Idk, wasted potential

Tbh Ethan was kinda obvious for me. When I saw him with the others at the bench, I was like “Yeah it’s totally Ethan”. And after Quinn supposedly “died” it could have either been him, Danny, or Bailey. Bailey just felt too suspicious to be the killer, and we already know that the Core 4 weren’t the killers. And given the trait, “every killers wears a plaid shirt” he was the only one wearing one. And since he’s a new character, that also gave me a reason to suspect him.

Her character type would be the confidant as she follows Tara and Sam for probably most of the movie. So we would look for a change of attitude towards them if she is a killer. Idk who else though would be a killer. Maybe Tara but a returning character has never been the killer. What Scream 6 did was they didn’t do the suspect thing like they usually do. Only Ethan and Danny were treated as suspects in the movie. Not counting Kirby at the end. Usually in Scream movies as the randy saying goes “everyone is a suspect’, Scream 2 went with the suspect thing the most because Dewey, Randy and Gale were looking at absolutely everyone as a suspect. Scream 5 also went heavy with the suspect thing, with everyone thinking they’re the killer. But the problem in Scream 5 was Ritchie and Amber looked the most sus, so for them to be the killers was a horrible idea.

To think, they could've kept Jason alive longer for the sake of allowing further attacks and murders to be unaccounted for the main killers. Jason could take Ethan's killer spot as a killer and give more mystery between the characters or improve baileys motive of his relationship with his first son. It could allow for the actions and character dynamics to be more broad. Biggest issue with the movie was limited character development, it was either "core four" and "killers" the rest was all window dressing. Having two ghostface killer networks unrelated to each other could be a real breath of fresh air for the franchise and they blew it, although that would involve the writers to put some effort in. Such a shoulda woulda coulda situation. Can they take a couple years to flesh out a logical, coherent story rather than appealing to fan service? Alternatively they could just get you to write the script Zach. It's starting to look embarrassing that your knowledge of scream exceeds the people supposedly revitalising it, only time will tell.

How amazing would it have been if Jason killed for the first half of the movie (with all clues pointing towards him), only to get killed off and then the pattern of the killers completely changing? That seems like a much better misdirect than a poorly staged fake killing off screen.

So great. Only issue I could see from this is that it gives Sam even more agency towards the outcomes of situations. While not as offensive as Scream 5, the circumstances that allow the killer to succeed in their plan would feel increasingly contrived (maybe just poor writing, again) They couldn't control the situation with one group of people to worry about, having a secondary threat (an active murderer) might really bend logical/physical limitations of the primary ghostfaces. Would've loved to see the chaos that could've come from this though, Quinn looks like she would be great at improvising this (I'm getting this just from her behaviour post reveal so its a bit of a stretch)

I feel like that would take advantage of having the movie expert alive in the third film of the trilogy (mindy as opposed to randy) and would be kind of a meta commentary on fan expectations as well. just an idea

I have a suggestion…I don’t know if you have heard but there are what’s called conspiracy icebergs. They are basically a chart that can be about any topic and it starts at the tip top of the iceberg with things that are the most widely known about that topic and it goes all the way to the bottom where they talk about the most obscure things about that topic. I saw a video on here from a guy named willysaintwilly who talks about a scream iceberg. I think it would be cool for you to give your thoughts on that.

Hayden Panttiere was born 4 years after me so that means she is 34, after you get into your mid 30’s and late 30’s you definitely change the most I feel like. Because around that time you’ve lived the fun life but you have to take things more seriously for your life. I was looking at pictures from my 20’s and I had a crazy party life for years and I wouldn’t trade it for the world especially growing up in the 90’s. So I’m glad to have lived during the last great decade and wouldn’t trade it for all the technology of modern day and the internet. It was just fine growing up with it advancing and having it as early as 1993…so I grew up with the huge changes. People that remember the world before computers took such a necessity and having to carry one with you.

Always love these deep dive videos! I think the issue still remains for a lot of new cast of being underwritten due to not knowing enough they linger between two archetypes a bit. For ex Ethan plays Devils Advocate while also being apathetic friend. Subtle Comic relief: Tissues/Cheetos... Negative Tone: Online Theory of Sam being GhostFace. However never really comes off as Unsympathetic/ reckless.

I knew as soon as he was announced he was one of the killers when stuff started leaking online, I felt it had a Scream 2 vibe about it. Scream 5. The killers were similar to the original Scream. The boyfriend and friend. Scream 2 the killer in Scream 1 mum. Scream 6. The killer in Scream 5 dad. So in Scream 7. It will be someone who has a family link to the,2 sisters. My miner is on Billy had another child and they will be the killer in Scream 7.

That’s a KZfaq strategy. Retention rates drop when you have too much fluff at the end. So it’s better to make your point and close out fast, as most viewers are ready to click off which means that there could be several minutes of unseen video that hurts the overall retention. Higher retention means more views.

I wish radio silence would just put in more logic on their killings and more emphasis on the mystery. The great part of scream is how grounded it is as well as the possibility of genuinely being surprised. This movie felt like a Scooby-Doo doo level mystery with k8lls albeit cool that were just not realistic. How is anaka going to get her guts spilling out and crawl a ladder over an apartment complex gap. How did Chad survive this time. Why couldn't they have timed the kill with the subway door opening and have Ethan be rushed out of the subway car before he could get to her. A scene where Bailey and Quinn mourn Richie death with the main cadt but only refer to him under nickname. Maybe introducing Bailey before the main ghostfaces start attacking to establish a worming trust with Bailey. Have Bailey be the one to put doubt on Danny for Sam. He's a cop so him finding out about the affair should be easy. He is Quinn father and could play up over a protective dad roll here. We could have had a cop partner here as well for an easy kill and comic relief. We could have used this character to try to ease tension between Kirby and Bailey only to be the catalyst between their civil war after their death. My biggest issue with this film is simply, how did Bailey get this case. How do the cops and fbi not know his background. That's just unbelievable to do in such a short amount of time between the 5 and 6.

I'm all for subverting the formula in small ways. Following Jason at the beginning was a good example. A bad example would be having an opening kill victim pop back up as a killer. Another bad example would be turning a hero into a villain. 👀 I'm looking at you, Radio Silence. Don't do it. 😂😂😂 But yeah, as far as figuring out the killers, this one was pretty easy. As much as I love the returning characters, there are just too many now. 😂😂 I mean, by my count, we had 2 pretty solid suspects and 2 maybe suspects by the time Gail was attacked. In my mind, anyway. Well, even then, one of the maybe suspects was off my list by that point because of what he did at the beginning of the ladder scene.

The best killer reveals are when it's a character that is in most of the movie. Mrs. Loomis and Jill have arguably the best reveals. Although Scream 6 is a super fun watch, the killers are stupid easy to figure out. If you die offscreen you're the killer, Bailey is way too suspicious of Kirby and yeah he doesn't grieve much for his "dead" daughter, and the third killer is basically told to us by every other character that he is the killer it's almost too in your face. Hopefully Scream 7 has a better mystery to it. The opening victim being the killer would be a really bad idea I feel. The only decent way would be if the first victim is a returning character, so their death would have impact throughout the film only to have some puzzle pieces in the end add up to them faking their death and being the killer.

After rewatching this video so many times, I think I can say that for those who keep saying that Ethan Landry is a red herring, then your wrong because Zack said that the red herring always has a negative tone, while he clearly mentioned that Ethan has an inconsistent tone in the film, because in the First Act, he had a positive tone in the party and as the movie progressed, he switched to a negative tone, therefore, he didn't have a completely negative tone throughout the whole movie, so he can't be a red herring.

I had quite a few issues with the reveal in this movie and what it reflected of the earlier plot points, but Ethan actually SAVING Mindy is ABSOLUTELY unnexplainable! Hate it!!! And the fact Bailey uses his "father" credentials for easy access to Quinn's alleged crime scene is absolutely preposterous, it it would ACTUALLY prohibit him more than anyone else to reach the scene!

Interesting. I have a few observations. 1) Tara is probably the only red-herring (and a pretty convincing one considering they've pretty much been building her up as a "returning killer" since her second scene in Scream 5). She kinda swaps between the "red herring" and "confidante" roles. Is it fair to call a character a red herring because they were hinted at as a future killer (repeatedly) in the previous movie? Possibly not... but I thought it was her for a good half of the movie (I didn't see any of the marketing, so the stuff people seemed to pick up on about Detective Bailey passed me by, at least early on.) 2) I wouldn't rule someone out because of positive musical scores. I remember the main killers of Screams 4 and 5 having some pretty positive musical themes too. 3) Totally agree about Quinn. Ironically I didn't think it was her for most of the movie because, again, I didn't pick up on Bailey until some time through the movie (I really think the marketing gave away waaay too much here) and by that time Quinn appeared to already be dead.

Tara is definitely not a red herring. The only reason she’s ever made to look suspicious is due to Richie’s comment after Amber reveals herself. That just makes him negatively toned. As for the music, it’s usually neutral unless it’s a major returning character coming into the movie. But Billy had several negatively toned musical cues in the original.
@H0lyMoley
@H0lyMoley 11 ай бұрын
@@ZackCherry You don't think the parallels between Tara in the opening scene of S6 and Amber in S5 make Tara look suspicious at all? I think it's significant that there's no sign of Sam in that opening. Why specifically set it up that Sam isn't there, if not to draw suspicion on Tara? The movie specifically gives Tara a motive for the opening murder. And it does it in the opening scene. I do agree about the lack of "negative toning" on Tara. But here's the thing... I won't go through the dozens of hints that Tara is being set up as a future killer, because c'mon. (If the emphasis on Sam handing Tara the knife isn't a clear hint as to what's coming then I don't know what is.) But it does feel like they're going to do a parallel to Roman and make the half-sibling the killer in the third movie of the "new" series. I agree that, beyond the opening, there isn't much pointing to her as the killer in the second, even if they do drop a lot of hints that there might be more to her character in the future. I also don't disagree about the negative musical tones (although Billy was specifically set up as a false "red herring" so you'd expect some with him specifically. But again, there are other killers who aren't portrayed the same way who get the same treatment.) I've never agreed with Mrs Loomis' characterisation as a "wild card" by the way. The genius of Debbie Salt is that she appears specifically to be in the movie to faciliate Gale's character arc and redemption. She's literally giving Gale a taste of her own medicine, thereby making her examine her own actions and the effect they have on her friends. As she's got such a clearly-defined relationship with one of the main protagonists I'd say she slots comfortably into "Devil's Advocate".
@ZackCherry
@ZackCherry 11 ай бұрын
I just don’t really see these clues you’re talking about with Tara in either 5 or 6. Unless she has a major 180 in the next movie, it will be a very unsatisfying killer reveal for her. As for Mrs. Loomis, she’s H.I.P.S. It’s not a defined enough relationship that she has with Gale that she would be D.A. Her cover places her at Windsor because she’s press who is reporting on the murders. That’s the thing that defines her character. If she were D.A. she would have a clear agenda with/against Gale (like Jennifer and Judy do) and we would at least have an idea of who she is personally. She’s also got like 2 minutes of screen time prior to her reveal. Trust me. I invented this 💁‍♂️
@H0lyMoley
@H0lyMoley 11 ай бұрын
@@ZackCherry See, I love these kinds of debates. To me, Mrs Loomis at least has a relationship to anyone in the main cast, which is more than Mickey does (they cut out the scenes of him being Syd's roommate, and nobody seems to bother about him when he literally disappears for half the movie. Also he looks at least 10 years older than anybody else. Who even IS this guy? What's he doing there?) "Debbie Salt" has a very well-defined professional rivalry with Gail that's part hero-worship, part envy. Yes, it's her cover, but it also gives her a chance to have some great moments (I love when she comes up to Gail after Randy's murder and is like "How does it feel to know there's someone out there, waiting, watching your every move?") It's less the amount of time she has, more the quality of its use. As for the hints to Tara... - There's Richie straight-up accusing her (which is something Scream does a lot - they have someone say something that they think is untrue, but then turns out to be correct later on - for example Syd distracting Mrs Loomis with "Isn't Mickey supposed to be dead?" two minutes before Mickey leaps up like a diving salmon.) Overtly this moment was just put in to set up the "I guess you're not as convincing as you thought" moment later on, but this is a Scream movie. D'you think that's all there is to it? - There's Sam handing Tara Billy's knife. Not exactly subtle symbolism there. - There's Tara's approval of Sam's stabbing, which goes a little beyond sisterly affection. And her almost euphoric reaction to stabbing Ethan through the mouth. - Talking of sisterly affection... Tara's attitude to Sam is really inconsistent throughout both Screams 5 and 6. To the point where it can't be explained by character growth. - Again, there's LOTS of parallels to the previous killers (in particular Amber in Scream 6, but there are a couple of subtle callbacks to Charlie and especially Jill in some of Tara / Sam's interactions as well). - And finally, if we're talking about Screams 5, 6 and 7 mirroring 1, 2 and 3... 1 is the love-interest, 2 is the vengeful parent, and 3 is the half-sibling... I'm sure I've missed out a few here. I know there were some more subtle callbacks I picked up on in Scream 5 that I couldn't remember now. Let's just say that I think they've set up Tara as a possible killer in Scream 7, and honestly I hope they run with it. It would be lame if we have so many returnees in the franchise now, and none of them ends up as a killer.
