How to Find and Fix Coolant Leak Chevy

Coolant would drop every time the car was driven but was never able to see where it was leaking from. This pressure test kit helped A LOT!!!
This coolant fix is being done on a 2014 Chevy Cruze LT 1.4 Turbo.

I love your screw to plug the hole idea. I need to do a pressure test to find my leak. Got new resivor and a new outlet hose. But seems im still losing some coolant somewhere

I also have a 2014 chevy cruze lt the same one but my problem is every time I fill the tank with antifreeze above half it throws it all the way down and it comes out from one side but I can't really look at where it's coming from it pulls it all the way down. half the antifreeze. To test it with that tool you have to test it with antifreeze inside to see where it is pulling or do you have to first remove all the antifreeze and pour water into the tank and test it or do you have to remove all the antifreeze? Also sometimes my car not every day but some days i start to heat from the engine and smoke comes from above the engine or in the location of the Intake manifold above is close to the small turbo

The make the pressure test you have to have fluids in the system so it doesn't have to be antifreeze you can also put just water and see where the water goes.. Not sure about the smoke, but I'm thinking has something to do with the coolant dripping all over and then it evaporates and creates the smoke

@@AlbanianFix ok thk and how do I take the antifreeze out to add the water? And after how do I take the water out or do I disconnect a hose until the water is out does it matter? If I always use the antifreeze ready to use that say do not add water and to teste after I add water can that be a problem?

2012 Chevy Malibu I have a coolant leak coming from right/ close to middle side ..not sure which it could be water pump or Valve Cover gasket. Car overheats because lack of coolant being held .. whatd you suggest?

@@AlbanianFix Brother, my engine takes forever to reach normal operating temperature (80 , 85 degree Celsius) do you think I might have a thermostat stuck open ?

@@freemindas Yup that's what I think is probably happening. How about the fan? Does it run on high all the time?

@@AlbanianFix I haven't checked that yet. The temperature goes down beyond what's normal 60 to 70 degrees when I drive fast and it takes 30 minutes or more to reach optimal temperature even in slow traffic. I have noticed decrease engine performance and fuel mileage! This problem is intermittent. It doesn't happen all the time. I hope it's the thermostat going bad.

I have a coolant leak cause my check engine light said I had a code for a thermostat I had that fixed and still have a leak do u think it's my housing? Last time it was replaced was 6 years ago

If you can get a rental pressure tester kit from any Autozone or Advance Auto store to spot the leak then I would do that instead of chasing other things that might not be related to it.

Mine is leaking can’t find where but the strange thing is this is only an issue in the colder months. Not even months just when it’s below freezing, it just leaked all over again today (it’s been in the negatives), hadn’t leaked since last year. How could temperature affect this?

Sounds like you have a leak in the heater core (evaporator) to me. Usually it’s just at the pipe connection on the engine bay’s side right before they go through the firewall. If not, then it might be the heater core itself which can be a pain to get to it through the car’s whole dashboard.

Will a coolant leak be the reason the heater blows cold air? My 2014 takes for ever to heat up now, didn’t use to be that way, and the coolant leak isn’t all the time

Yes, no or low coolant won’t give out heat.

Quick question. I have a Chevy trax. Been putting in coolant, heater works for a day, starts blowing out cold air. No coolant and we have to refill. Now my car is saying it’s engine is overheating. Is this just a leak or could it be something more complicated?

Definitely a leak… and a big one since it’s losing all coolant within a day. Hopefully it’s not a blown head gasket and just a leaky hose like in this video. 🤞

transmission grinds when you put it in gear sounds like it’s turning yet. Axles are not moving when I hit the dash vehicle information it says I’m doing 6mph I’m not moving, linkage is adjusted fluid, seems to be overfilled. As if a solenoid is an opening or something of that sort what is my next option?

Well as you said, tranny is grinding which is not good to begin with. “Speed goes but you’re not driving” is a clear indication that you speed sensor is also broken in the transmission or because of the bad transmission. Might need a rebuild.

13 traverse. Coolant leak somewhere. Have to refill radiator/tank every 2-4weeks. I can't find any leaks in the drive way or anything. No white smoke from exhaust tip and oil is clean not contaminated with water. Car drives fine otherwise. I've even taken it on a 6hr drive after refilling the rad/tank. Any tips?

Filling it every 2-4 week, seems like a very insignificant leak. Have you tried to find the leak under pressure like in this video?

@@AlbanianFix update: turns out my water pump was going bad. And it finally completely gave away. When I put the air pump on to test for pressure it would not build/hold pressure. I barely managed to hear hissing. I filled the radiator and I saw the stream coming from the water pump area. Replaced the water pump from the bottom (pain in the ass.) and new belt. Re-tested with pressure kit and it build/held pressure. (20psi). Car is running great again. I'm guessing the water pump was slowly going bad and water was evaporating on the block. Which lead to me not finding any leaks. Until it completely went bad.

I think typing in google “coolant return hose” gives you just about all the hoses you need.

I have Holden Captiva 2012 diesel temperature warning light turn on I took the car to mechanic he pressured tested it Told he checked all water system and hoses couldn’t find a water leak 😏

@@AlbanianFix thanks for reply When reservoir lose water the engine lose power until refill water After about 30 minutes drive happens the same Mechanic couldn’t find the problem

@@peace4world84 Hmm... pressure tested and no leaks? I would try doing another test with a dye and with car running, not pressure test. Once you lose coolant again, you can see the dye around the engine bay. There are all kinds of dye kits, here's one: LeakFinder® Coolant Dye (LF3001) If you still don't see a leak then it seems to me that you need to check your head gasket for possible internal leaks.

@@AlbanianFix thanks mate Engine oil is pretty good mechanic changed it before Christmas But this morning saw dark smoke coming out of muffler/ exhaust It’s Diesel engine and has done 118000 km Someone told me maybe water mixing with diesel and going out of muffler

I hear you but there is not much to do without tools. You could however run the actual engine so it can create pressure in the water lines in order to look for leaks but it’s much harder to notice and you’ll run into overheating problems.
