It might be useful to 3D print a true to size shell of the BBHSD to mimic the unit with the various spacers so that people could trial fit it to their bike before making the big decision.

Great content. Regarding chain line. I dont think you mentioned but a lot of people including my self also use a chainring that has an offset to allow a better alignment. But since this is new I dont think new chainrings with various offsets exist yet. It worked great on the older BBSHDs which I agree has been bullet proof so far with over a year and half of riding mostly on mountain bike trails.

Thanks Georgio. I have to update on this motor when I get chance. The existing lekkie stuff does work with this new motor! Great points on offset. Cheers
@TheAgentAssassin
@TheAgentAssassin 2 жыл бұрын
I had to modify (or rather my bike shop) had to modify a lekkie ring specific for the BBSHD motor. Since my motor is the BBS02 , the holes did not line up. The bike shop modified it since I needed more inward offset that the BBSHD lekkie ring offered vs. the BBS02 version. Now the bike barely if ever slip while on the rear cogs. The chain line is dialed in really well now. It used to slip really bad under throttle on the smallest cog. I'm running a 52T front lekkie. I'd like to experiment with a rohloff hub using a BBSHD , then you have one single chain line to dial in.

I do not see a 120mm version of the Bafang M625 available as of yet. I would imagine the 100mm Bafang M625 would still have problems fitting to most modern Fat Bikes because of the chainstays. Also, the company (Eunorau) advertising the Bafang M625 motor states on Aliexpress that "Bafang M625 with CAN protocol, the motor is only compatible with BT F22.960. C battery". Seems like the new motor has very limited options.

Yeah. I will look into the updated information. I think there will be workarounds. Em3ev and luna will not want it this way. It's bafangs choice but I imagine they will just be leaving alot of business on the table restricted in this way...

Very useful info, and mentions issues I've already thought of myself. I'm looking to build my first e-bike and need a bike to start. My main questions involve where the final chainring position will end up with the motor installed. I'm assuming the chainring should pretty much be where it was originally for a good chain-line. But the bikes I've looked at have chain stays that flare out really wide immediately from the crank area, making me wonder if a larger chainring will fit without hitting the chain stay. I know I could space the chainring out but then the chain line might be too far off. I wish there was a list of MTB bike brands that are the most suitable for these mid drive Befang installations. I wouldn't want to buy a bike to realize that I made the wrong choice for this.
@HighVoltageKits
@HighVoltageKits Жыл бұрын
There is a list of good bikes on Endless Sphere the web based version. I should copy it down at some point. Hardtails are easier to work with than DH bikes. Older DH bikes are easier than newer ones. When I say DH I actually mean full suspension. You are right to be wary if the bikes have flared out chainstays as they will almost certainly push out the chain line and make things hard for you. You are also welcome to join out discord and post photos of frames etc. Maybe people can help you find a good frame that will work. The Tales on Two wheels blog is well worth checking out as well. Lots of good tips on there. The video for that is about 5 videos back from current.

Well the bit you need to figure out is if the casing of the reduction gear hits the chain stay and requires a spacer. I'd it does then yes you might need the larger size. In terms of clearance to the ground the exact same problems or restrictions to frame type remain to the best of my knowledge. The requirements for the strap and the bracket with only one bolt and less torque could well make it more tricky on certain frames without extra parts or custom work. Good points. Appreciate the comment

I've been building, This will be my third e-bike and was going to be my final e-bike. I went and bought a carbon fiber Chinese knockoff gravel bike. It is fantastic! It looks awesome but it has that weird BB dip where it then meets at the rear fork parallel but I forgot what the dip is for or something for the chain so you can get to it easier or something. But like the bottom bracket has one side protrudes way lower than the other side. It's a weird looking angle. I didn't know that I got the upgrade kit. I got the high voltage upgrade kit bought a brand new bafang mid drive motor and it hits that little bump and it's carbon fiber so it's not like I can shave it down. Do you guys make some weird like it won't even align up straight with the bottom bracket hole at all. It's off by like a half inch and I'm debating about giving up and just going with a hub motor but then I can't use a hub motor because it's a thru axle and so I wouldn't even be able to get the hub motor on the frame if I wanted to without professional help. I guess I don't even know if you can take the axle off the motor and then put it back on and our own backyard anyway... Lol. On a side note, e-bike magazine or whatever the e-bike magazine had on the cover said it was the world's fastest aftermarket e-bike and it was on a heavy mountain bike frame and could go a top speed of 70 mph and like 0 to 60 in like 7 or 8seconds. Said it was the fastest street bike out there. The current bike I have now can go over 88 mph and 0 to 60 in like 4 seconds if I can control it without snapping the chain. With only 3000 watt mid drive motor .there was like 5,000 watt hub motor. They're hub motor weighed more than my whole bike put together . And it is completely carbon fiber except for the battery and motor. Everything else I mean everything else down to the carbon fiber. Spokes the rails that hold the seat are carbon fiber. Everything is carbon fiber. The whole bike weighs less than 35 lb and I mean it is futuristic to the max. It is a road bike. You never see people converting road bikes. I always thought that was weird because I want the fastest road bike. Haven't been like to drive a car since 2009 and when I keep up with cars and the bike lane next to them it is hilarious. Seen their expression because they can't seem to accelerate faster than me no matter how hard they try. Even the Ford mustang GTs are the only one that can almost accelerate faster than me. Am accelerating using pedal. Assist the whole time not the throttle. If I were to use the throttle it would be ridiculous. I would burn rubber on my 700c tires is kind of funny. I keep it in the lowest or the highest RPM gear and Mike acceleration is through the roof. But I want to make the fastest gravel bike in the world and I would feel much safer putting 38 mm to 45 millimeter mountain bike tires on Earth road. Bike frame would be epic and now I'm a little sad cuz a problem and I don't want to have to buy another carbon fiber gravel bike frame. I took it two months to get here from China

What are the weight differences between the hd & the m625? I heard it is made out of magnesium. Can you pull the same power out of a bbs02 w/ a asi800 compared to a hd? The reason being I've seen options for a belt drive on the o2 but not really for the hd...any thoughts? I'm really set in converting belt drive bike there is one person I've seen w/ a hd running a belt drive on the same bike...he had told me that his conversion was a custom machined front chainring adaptor...it seems a bit over done. I'm working w/ a 104bcd 42t front sprocket...i also got a gates 39t sprocket as well.
@HighVoltageKits
@HighVoltageKits 3 жыл бұрын
I am not quite sure. If it has been reduced in weight by the magnesium I doubt it will make much difference in the grand scheme of things. Belt drive is nice and quiet. It is doable. Check out endless sphere for belt drive info. There will be many who have done it. I thought there were kits out there already. Gates I think does something. The new BBSHD chain ring uses bolts so perhaps it will be easier to adapt. Sorry for the late response! Cheers

Looking at it I'd say the motor would hang very low. Id try searching on endless sphere to see if it's been attempted before.

I have regrettably come to the conclusion that my Giant Reign 27.5 2 might be a bad ebike conversion due to the sloped lower tube. I really love that bike, but think it would get a terrible ground clearance due to this.
@HighVoltageKits
@HighVoltageKits 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Its a tough one. There are the CYC motor kits which offer a bit more flexibility although they are more complex in general due to the dual chain design. Maybe you can find a trade?
@OlavAlexanderMjelde
@OlavAlexanderMjelde 2 жыл бұрын
@@HighVoltageKits yes, I think I might just buy a new eBike, or of course it would be possible to buy an ebike frame and transfer the giant reign stuff over. But the Giant bike is in very good condition, so I would feel kindof sad parting it out also :P

My tsdz2 motor will not work without modification on 2 frames that have internal cable routing, at the bottom bracket the internal cables exit blocking the bottom bracket.

I know a few people who have ground off those points. Should not be structural. This video is more about general mounting. I think the tong shen is similar in how it attaches tho.

@@HighVoltageKits wish bafang fit more like the cyc inside the frame. That semi integrated look is nicer than bulge at the bottom bracket.
@HighVoltageKits
@HighVoltageKits 3 жыл бұрын
The mounting is the key advantage of the CYC. It has its own problems tho. They can do it with the chain reduction. Bafang could improve things but it would need a complete redesign.

is there a reason I hardly ever see these motors attached to roadbike or gravel bike frames?
@HighVoltageKits
@HighVoltageKits 2 жыл бұрын
I have seen a few but mountain bike seems to be the most common. Bruno Power had a nice road bike build that he modded to go silly fast. Not a bbshd but this video is footage of my Salsa Vaya with the CYC kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lZlzaqqVz7zHZ4U.html The vaya frame is very much a touring one that us also a favorite of gravel riders. Cheers 🍻

What do u use if u have a 86mm BB ??

Good question. The regular one is 68-83mm. So might be ok. It depends a bit on your chain stays. You could always join our discord and post a few photos of it.

From what I remember Dawes use British thread so if its a hard tail you will likely be good. No way of knowing for certain though without seeing the frame and bb. Good luck!

The M625 adds a huge (literally) additional issue of requiring the proprietary Bafang battery that comes in one, giant, ugly, form factor.

Hello! I have had issues with this motor coming loose after tightting it with the correct torque and additionally applying Loctite to the grey Locknut. Raised ridges are facing the bicycle and are bitting into the frame but after some time the motor comes loose. It's a very annoying problem I have that prevents me from enjoying an otherwise great kit! Any suggestions people?

Hi, suggest you join the channel discord server so you can post photos. This is the link discord.gg/YAAjfgc works best on the phone app so you can use the camera easily. There are brackets that can help with this but it would be good to try and see a bit more of what is going on before you buy something. Hope this works. Cheers

I also had this issue. You should also look into getting a Brace from Luna or California Ebikes. They have a couple of different versions that are nice.

@@jasonspector After I retightened it again with a ridiculous amount of force (torque) it has not come loose yet. I also put a bit of Loctite on the threads, not as much as the first time. I tighten it so hard that I wrap the tool I was using, just the simple one that came with the kit. I should also point out that I also used an DIY extender bar of about 1.5 meters to apply more torque. I tighten as hard as I physically could.

@@TGUGCL The tool to tighten this is very hard to get tight. Especially if there is anything in the way. The best advice I saw was use a mallet to tighten it. That seemed to work for a while. The bracket or brace solved my issue thus far.
