Great video! How about power delivery (PD) dock issues? What criteria does one use to selection the correct USB C (alt mode) or TB3 dock to PD charge their Dell laptop? For example, my partner has a Dell Inspiron 15-7577 laptop with a 180W power adapter and Thunderbolt symbol labelled TB3 port. Yet my SD5600T Kensington (Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C Dual 4K Hybrid 100W PD) dock with a 180W power adapter can't charge her (180W power adapter 57Whr battery) laptop; even though all the other functions work (DisplayPort for an external monitor, 1-GB ethernet port, and all USB Type A ports for mouse and keyboard dongles). Criteria wise, does the power adapter watts of a dock have to match or exceed the power adapter watts of the Dell laptop? And/or does the PD watts of the dock have to match or excess the battery watts of the laptop? Are all TB3 ports PD (power delivery) up to 100 watts (20V x 5A), not just DisplayPort capable? Is this a driver issue with the dock or Dell? Is this a Dell BIOS issue? None of the dozens of articles I've read online about docks and Dells or You Tube videos seem to address or be able to answer this issue, what criteria makes a dock PD/DP compatible with a laptop, especially the Dell Inspiron 15-7577. So, does anyone know the answer to this complex issue or have links to sources that might inform me? Thanks!

Now, I have matched it to the correct charging cable and also done the updates too. I also would say to others . . . please to shut down regularly as possible on the laptop to give it a break every now and then. Thanks . . .

Dell laptops are nightmares with battery issues. You missed the BIOS firmware update which could be an issue as well. But these shitty laptops won't update firmware with low battery (you can do it in a tricky way from UDB stick). Company Dell needs to think about this, as there's a lot of claims on battery issues.

Some Dell (and HP) laptops require specific, branded AC adapters, and will give an error message if you're using an otherwise electrically correct charger (right voltage and adequate amp rating). They will usually power the laptop, but not charge the battery. At least that's what I've found with a couple of recent-vintage Dell and HP laptops. For instance, the DC connector on the Dell Wyse 5470 laptop is the same size as used in the HP "blue tip" AC adapters. The voltage and amperage is also correct for the Dell laptop, and the HP adapter will power the Dell laptop, but the battery won't charge.

Thanks, the update did it for me. Can't believe that would be the problem. It would be the last thing I would have checked. I was ready to but a new charger until I came here. Charging now, fingers crossed.

This was helpful. Thank you. Unfortunately, there is no pop out battery on my dell laptop. It appears to be inside the laptop and i would have to take it apart which is unnerving.

I have a 7285 2-in-1 tablet and my issue is with a brand new productivity keyboard K17M which includes a 22 hr battery. My laptop fails to recognize this 2nd battery and only shows the one battery. I made sure my bios firmware was updated, drivers, software, etc all updated. I've reinstalled the drivers via device mgr. I then bought a replacement battery to see if installing that battery would make a difference. Again nothing. Diagnostic does not show a problem. Apparently, this issue seems to be quite common for the battery keyboard. I'd appreciate any solution because having that 2nd battery is a game changer for me. Honestly, I am just not sure what to do next. I could always try swapping out the keyboard which is $250 and I am not convinced that would do it. PLEASE HELP ME. God Bless, Oldsalt

I suspect mine was the update issue though now can't tell (notification appeared when nearly 0, had been plugged in but not aware of wasn't charging) - now won't even work while plugged in). I have a dell latitude 3590 laptop that has charging issues. The only way to keep it turned on is having the charger plugged in..once it disconnects the power will turn off. I replaced the battery and the charger but still the same thing! The new battery came with 35% battery from the box so the laptop was able to be used for a short amount of time without the charger plugged in but now the battery is stuck at 0% and says plugged in but wont charge at all. Have two old Alienwares. The chargers (not OEM) runs the machines fine, but is not recognized and the battery wont charge and shows either no batter or battery not charging. Hello and thank you for a nice video. My computer is Dell Precision 17" Bought a new battery, and when unplug the cord, lop top shoots off and on battery says is 100%. With the charger pluged in the screen goes from high light to lower deamed and in a couple seconds lights up again. Would you know what to do? Thanks

I sent my laptop to a dell service because i had troubles with my keyboard, they replaced it with a new one, but now my laptop doesn t charge at all (BUT ALSO IT DOESN T DISCHARGE). My problem with my Dell Latitude E6540 is when I plug it in the white battery light just flashes and the computer does not POST. It just sits there and flashes. I have tried several Dell chargers, put in different RAM and swapped the battery with one (Same Make and Model) without any success? When I got the computer I plugged it in and it booted up OK. I ordered a new SSD for it and installed it OK but the white battery light keeps flashing. Now the wifi and power light comes on but the middle battery light just keeps flashing. Any suggestions?

I have Inspiron 15 and it does not seem to be bad battery but a bad connection, I noticed it happens if you move the battery in any way, after disconnecting, the level stays the same and does not report accurate charge until powered cycled, this is probably due to oxidation of the fixed or battery contacts over time, any idea how to clean this?

New battery, takes a few restarts for computer to boot to normal screen, or else boots to set up error screen, else it boots on for a second then turns off (as if there is no battery). When it does boot, the laptop doesn't read that the charger is plugged in (no indicators) and the battery time remaining is ridiculous (>1000 hours remaining; could be a calibration error). Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

i just started having an issue with the the batteries that are not the original from dell after the motherboard upgrades and i never had this problem before on the other nmotherboard while still on windows 11 and im getting a lightning bolt on the battery icon and it only says (plugged in),, everything is updated, all new parts and dell ac charger works and i get power but NOT charging!!??? im upset,, if it comes down to having to waste money for a tech to fix it, so be it!!!

Hey there, I have a Dell Latitude E5530. I bought an OEM battery. This battery is charging but the windows 10 percentage is 0%. I know it's charging because I left the laptop only with the battery for 20 minutes and the laptop didn't shut down. I downloaded drivers, I press the power button for 30 secs, but none of them has worked. Any idea, what the issue could be? Do you think that changing the charger to much the Watts could help?

Hi, I have a dell latitude 3410 laptop. My charger is working but my laptop is not charging. When plugged in, the white light near the charging port comes on and within a second it goes off. Also, this happened while my laptop was updating. Hence, when I turn it on, it's just stuck on the dell logo sign with the 'diagnosing your pc' sign.
