How To Hook Up A Snow Plow - Connecting My BOSS DXT Snow Plow To My Truck

Wanted to take a few minutes this afternoon and show you guys how we connect my snow plow to my truck. I came home this morning and when we woke up, almost out of no where, we were issued a snow storm warning! Nothing like finding out within a 12 hour window that you're supposed to get 2-5" of snow!
As you can imagine, seeing no snow in the forecast on the 10 day, I didn't have my snow plow hooked up. No big deal, it only takes a few minutes to connect it. Wanted to grab the camera and show you guys how we do that.
I know it may seem like a simple topic, but I really appreciated videos like this back in the day when I was evaluating the snow game. Hopefully this video can help you guys out with how to install a snow plow. This is specific to a BOSS plow, but the basic's still apply. Usually the only difference you're going to see is how the plow mounts connect. Hope you guys enjoy.

Out where I'm at in Washington, most guys (myself included) run the Meyer lot pros. Good plows I just bought a second one for this season! I just welded up real quick, a little metal tray it sits on and I move it around with my forklift. Makes it a lot easier to put on than the drive up method. I just run it up with the fork lift and "click click" and done. :-) I thought about a V plow (the meyer super V3) but I didn't like the ground clearance when it's fully up, and with the adjustable wing kit, it just makes it like a really good snow pusher box. Running two plows this winter and 3 spreaders, a 350lb and two 700 pounders. Up here it's mostly just de-icing with the spreaders and really good money. When we have to plow (which isn't that often) it's like money falls out of the sky. lol I'm from snow country in the midwest but here in Seattle, nobody knows what to do when it snows. Good place to do snow work!

Been using fisher minute mount 2 V plow and they go on quick and always last the time with truck. Do recommended maintenance every season and they last and are durable. Made in the state Of Maine where they eat sleep snow.

I pick up the DXT polly this year. For my 2018 F250. I went ahead and in stalled Air lift 1000 coil spring on front end. Really made a big difference. Good luck this year. I'm near South Bend IN..

I’ve hooked up boss sno-way fisher and both western ultra and unimount. The boss is very easy and fast you just need to drive into it and actually drive into and push the plow a little so you know it’s fully engaged and good to go

Just wanted to reply on the blade I don't even own a snow plow or drive them or anything but I'm a mechanic and usually when stuff is built like that it's because that bleed should break away if it were to get caught on something while plowing that way the plow or the hydraulics don't get damaged or an attempt to protect it anyway the bleach should break away and you should have exactly the same amount of new bolt holes to replace the blade if the plow has not been bent in an accident that's just my guess a educated guess though.

The original cutting edge/trip edge that’s on your plow from new gets worn down and then u bolt a new one right over it just don’t wear the trip edge too far or u will need to replace it for big $$$$ Boss has a great set up for hooking to truck other then narrow ears to get lined up but the power attach/detach is awesome .fisher used to bust on boss for power attach and now snow ex uses there own version of it

As usual good video Brian. Once you try the western mount it's hard to do all the other mounting systems other manufacturers have. I love the ultramount system, doesn't matter if ground is level or not. Also I prefer chains to just a lift ram, hydraulics fails and it's a harder to drive away, western you could drive up a bank and short chain. Everything is just much quicker I find with the Westerns. Not to put Boss down though they do make a decent plow

I don't think I could do that. I have to make a couple of tries with my Western plow. I am an armature. It would take me forever to hook that up. I don't have a dedicated pickup for plowing. May plow has to come off and on frequently. I like the Boss plows but hook up looks too hard.

I can mount my western ultramount in 2 minutes and the fact that the mounts on the truck are not very noticeable is an added bonus. Nothing against boss plows though.

No kidding man...holy crap, why is Western the only one that has a quick-mount system? And two minutes? I'm hooked or unhooked in under 30 seconds. Drive right into the plow, flip the mounts into place, plug in, go. Thirty seconds. This is crazy! Good plow, bad mounting system.

Please help!!! What are instructions for dropping western ultramount plow! I have float feet on mine. Difficult getting it to lock up and on!! It moves forward and it’s SO DIFFICULT to get it all the way into receivers on truck!! Please help! Thanks 🙏

@@sheilasmith1109 I don't have any problems. Don't be afraid to drive into the plow (after making sure you're lined up). You'll see the plow go forward as it aligns with the mounts. You do push the spring-loaded feet all the way down when you unhook it, right? Watch the videos on here, look for 'Western UltraMount' and they show how it's done.

Great video Brian! At work I operate a 8’2 boss dxt. I feel that the boss is a premium product. 3 years and still on the original cutting edge. Each snowfall is about 12 hours plowing time. Hooking up and unhooking is a breeze. I wish I had a 9’2 though. Plow will probably outlast the truck. Lol 😂

Easy hook up love my boss. Hey bro get you a large outside bbq grill cover and cover the headlights and hydraulics to keep the snow off. I use to blow the plow off as well I hate when its full of snow

Brian's Lawn Maintenance cheap and easy and your wire harness and lights stay protected. Just bungee cord it or I use a cheap ratchet strap and ratchet it around the light mount

I have a boss vxt 8,2 and it is only a year old and I hook up to it first try but I have always had boss so I have gotten pretty good at it but sense you are new It can be tricky at first but you will get used to it

Nice video . Once you hook and unhook a few thousand times you don't need a spotter and it takes 30 seconds max .

Thanks the dealer has a 2019 2500 HD w/ a Boss plow installed for a great price but wasting time in a snow storm hooking it up isn't worth it. Western's big hooks is easy.

Great video, can you go over the importance of having the controller in the float mode ( red light on) that powers up the electric switch that makes it possible to connect and disconnect the mount, you mentioned a future video, I have found people not holding the button down long enough to get into the float mode..red light on. Thanks

Should’ve went snowex, the mount on the snowex is very wide. You just drive in, even 4 inches off it lines right up. Then you connect 2 cables, flip the switch, and use a connecting arm for the pins. Much easier imo

snow ex company is a pos!!! storie..dealer sold me a v-plow for my 2010 2500 diesel..first TIME i used it plow on road lowered plow so i could use my truck lites did"nt clear vision..went to use plow lite.same thing lowered plow to be able see,plow drug on ground. called snow ex company said that plow would not work on a diesel but would on a gas truck. dealer new i had a diesel when he order it . I"am the consumer point being snow ex did nothing to solve my problem.never call me back to address the problem. i found out the snow ex dealer has closed yeah!!!! snow ex I"am sure makes a fair plow. after getting rid of that pos plow i went to a way better v- plow and drag pro BOSS!!!! dealer was in ft dodge,iowa

Hi Brian, New to Boss.It came with the truck so... Couple of questions. The plow is silver,it says 9.2 on the back. Is there a Data plate with the Manufacturing date? I enjoy your videos but have not seen much on maintenace of these plows.Thank you from Maine.

Not hating at all but, within a millimeter or 2? And keep on level ground. What a pain. Another reason why I don't like boss plows along with single acting cylinders and those springs that always break. My western wideout a blind guy can line it up. But hey as long as ur happy and making money. Btw don't forget to check the bolts holding your plow frame on, first few storms they can loosen up. No one wants to loose a plow!!

I have both Fisher and Western Wide Outs and they both are very forgiving, you get it in the pockets and your good. JMO I dont like what I see on that single lift cylinder with no chains on that Boss, I know they create down pressure but its a strange design

Had a boss on my cummins. Only thing that scared me about the boss was if the hydraulic jack were to fail then im screwed. Love my fisher xv2 on my 2015 silverado 2500 but its 1 heavy bitch at about 1000lbs

Here's a trick: you can roll your truck forward with one hand in neutral. just grab the tire and rotate it and align the plow accordingly. then drive into the mechanism.

Boss does have an alinement system to hook up plow to truck. My biggest gripe with boss plows is poor quality of electrical wire and components

Funny I feel their newer electrical systems and wiring are super simple. That's actually a selling point for their plows now. I don't know what they used in the past, but their newer 13 pin system works on all the plows from what I understand.

I have my Boss plow sitting on 3 snowmobile skates (they each have 4 caster style wheels) so I can mount the plow on the truck instead of mounting the truck on the plow. Much easier and faster.

Alan brown ok...For Western Ultra Mount ,....then how do ya keep plow from moving forward? UNLESS you’re perfectly lined up, plow gets pushed forward! Top that off with boots attached to bottom of plow for plowing of grassy yard and gravel where you need them for plowing OTHER than asphalt or other hard surfaces!!! Plow gets pushed forward!! There’s got to BE someway to stop it! No one has been able to tell me! Not able to park it inside OR other than outside on gravel driveway! Any thoughts, are MUCH APPRECIATED!! Thanks

So a few question with the boss plow. what happens if you can't get power to the plow does that mean that you cannot move it or hook it up? Plus if you are out plowing and you lose power to the hydraulics how do you lift the plow blade up with no hydraulics does that mean you go down the road scraping your plow away to the repair shop? Also notice that it has a hydraulic ram for the lift the plow up-and-down are you limited on stacking snow? Heard some good things about boss through your channel but I have to say I did not go with one because of these questions could not be answered! Instead I want with the Fisher plow because even with out the hydraulics I can still lift it and get it to the repair shop. It actually happened to me last year to find out that 1 of my battery terminals was not tightened!

I would say a lot can go wrong with plowing but not receiving power was never one I would've considered. I never thought about it.

@@BriansLawnMaintenance Well that plow is sitting in the most corrosive area on the whole vehicle and wiring in salt water do not mix! You now sitting there with out power hooked up to the truck trying to fix the wiring problem is a pain in the butt. I know because I had to replace a hydraulic hose this last storm we got in New England on 11/16/18

I bought a New 2018 Western Midweight for my custom built 2015 Silverado. I’m also an amputee and this wouldn’t work for me at all. I can connect and disconnect my plow with one leg, bc Western gives you way more than a millimeter or two to work with. It takes me less than 8mins to do either. This would suck. That’s why I always research before I buy anything. Also with Western, it has a function where your plow can have one side uneven and you can simply adjust the frame or the plow and still drive straight into it.

the boss plows have spring returns. If one of them break, how does the plow wing return?

Who told you that both sides have to be even??? I got a boss plow and when driving into the plow most of the time it's lined up closer to one side of the clip then the other side but guess what when you connect your cables and activate the plow it ALWAYS attaches no matter if one side is closer and the other side isn't as close.

The plow will be to high to hit the mount on the truck . He made this look a bit harder than it is. You don’t need to be perfectly aligned like he was showing. We have 7 of these plows for the last 15 years . Unless something is bent, they go on quick

A matter of fact I do. I had an old western ultra mount and now just bought a ultra mount 2 this year. Don't need a second person and that vid would have been 2 mins if he had a wester ultra mount. No need for that switch to move the hydraulics into place. And I don't need any tape on my hood

This is the perfect main reason why I will never own a Boss plow. That seems like a lot of fooling around. Fisher all the way for the win! Can't beat the minute mount system and the chain lift that boss doesn't have

I hope so, hiniker is just two forks slam them in nothing has to be lined up, then it's a single handle that closes both pins and a single plug.

I checked it out, pretty easy very similar to hiniker other then we don't have to push on the headlights to lock the pins, just pull the handle flip the jack up.

Definitely a better plow as well. Have both brand new boss and brand new western mvp 3 and everything is better on the western. Doesn’t rust as bad as the boss either...
