Thanks BRAD& KYLE. The basics are the most important! Many bowlers get lost in technical stuff. When I bowled my first league in 1985, urethane balls were still new and the lanes were wood. The lanes would change so quickly BACK then. I noticed how much longer the shot would stay consistent ON SYNTHETIC lanes using reactive resin cover stocks. Keep up the great videos guys.👍👍

I’ve seen them put out 4 different patterns across 4 lanes and then have the pro’s bowl a game on the lanes each shot is on a different pattern, one time my house was out of oil so they substituted with vegetable oil the highest avg set that night was 159 from a guy that usually avg’d 220 or better, and that was the worst thing we were setting averages that night the ball would not hook at all unless you threw it about 7-8 mph I threw my normal 17mph shot to line up it slides right into the gutter so I throw up 5 it just slides down and hooks maybe 3-4 boards was horrible

Great video! I've made huge strides in my game in the last couple years and have become a name in scratch bowling in my area. However, even after everything I've learned I still struggle with transition especially dealing with a sport condition that has become wet/dry. By that I mean when the ball sees the friction to the right it over hooks regardless of how far left I get with my feet, and when the ball is kept a little tighter to the pocket it sees too much oil and skids to leave bucket or light splits. What are general ideas for tackling this condition? (speed, tilt, surface, type ball)

BC Paletta Most of the time when I’m not Carrying, it is when I am not staying with my shot or staying down. If I pop up or step to the right then the rotation on the ball is going to be different causing ten pins. If you stay down and with your shot and hit the pocket you should be able to carry at a higher percentage.

Darrin Lindsey appreciate the advice. I will try that tonight. I do move left and right and adjust my eyes but never tried just 1/2 a board. I always move 2 to 3 boards so that could be part of my problem as well. Thanks
@benjaminbailey5320
@benjaminbailey5320 6 жыл бұрын
Darrin Lindsey I agree actually I’m redoing this comment, if you stay balanced at the line and stay with the ball and you throw a good pocket shot and strike, then you have the correct angle of entry and the next shot you fall off to the right and rotation on the ball is different. There will be a different rotation on the backend therefore different angle of entry leading to a ten pin. You can make 1 1/2 board moves, I do it sometimes on 10 pins just don’t do anything drastic.

always walk straight for the sake of consistency. Lots of right-handed players have a natural drift to the left, but as long as it's consistent, shouldn't be a big deal.

Good advice for the most part. My only criticsm is you’re not quite right on the rule of 31. Subtracting 31 from the length of the pattern gives the number of the board where the ball should be at the end of the pattern, not the break point.

@@scooterthewolf3890 It depends on how you throw it. If you throw it superslow, you will have your breakpoint within the pattern, if you throw it superfast you will maybe ending up having your breakpoint way into the dry area.

How about throwing your 1st ball at 25% speed with lots of rotation, right down the middle. That’ll give you a real good idea where the oil pattern ends as it won’t have the speed to skid past the exit point.
@SirJoelsuf1
@SirJoelsuf1 5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not. This is what causes people to loft the gutter cap. The best thing to do is to burn up a line. If you are on a team, have them take their most aggressive ball, put on as much surface as possible with it, and shoot right outside the track area. This is what college bowlers do. It opens up the lanes to the point where later in the day, any given sport shot will be much more scoreable.
@TheVlad1616
@TheVlad1616 5 жыл бұрын
@@SirJoelsuf1 the goal of that 1 ball is to find the length of the pattern... its not going to burn up the middle of the lane.
@SirJoelsuf1
@SirJoelsuf1 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheVlad1616 Oh I thought you meant burning it up during practice. Yeah, exactly one ball thrown there is fine to see where the out of bounds area is on shorter or medium sport shots I guess. It's when floor dumpers take their most aggressive ball, take it down to 180, and rope it up 12 on a 40 foot flat pattern because "they can't find a line" is what gets to me. That kind of thing causes people to loft the gutter cap which is not good. To that point, I'm all for taking your most aggressive ball down to 180...provided you play up the rail with it. That's what I do, turns any sport shot under 42 feet into PBA Cheetah regardless of volume especially if I have a group who can break them down with me.

@@SirJoelsuf1 Right, I remember talking to the Saginaw Valley State University coach, something like 15 yrs ago, and he said they watched where their upcoming opponents were playing, and then, during practice, took their most porous balls and burned up the other team's lines. They already had plans to play totally different angles. Neither team scored super-high, but SV was able to win because of it.

Less oil for sports shots and a flatter pattern, meaning you don't have the same pool of oil in the middle and dry on the outside like house shots do. This makes it so that any miss left will keep going left and misses right stay right. So you got to be accurate.

What I've noticed is, the power professionals just have umpteen different balls drilled different ways, and just play roughly the same line, stand in roughly the same spot, and throw the same speed, regardless of the pattern, because they have defeated the patterns with their equipment. "Oh, it's the Cheetah. Gotta play up board 4." No, you don't. Just pick up bowling ball number 92 from your arsenal, stand on 25, throw up 14, just like you always do....Oh, the Viper? Hmmm... I think we'll go with ball 27 of 100, stand on 25, throw up 14....wait, the Shark? K. Grab ball number 36, Board 25, throw up 14....
