This video knitting tutorial will help you learn how to knit the guernsey cast on. This method of starting a project is a decorative cast on traditionally used when making Guernsey sweaters. Interesting. It's *A* knotted cast-on, but not *THE* knotted cast-on. Granted it looks easier, but the give-away is there is only one strand of yarn between the knots. Useful to know, for all that. The traditional Guernsey method is harder to learn, but will give you less trouble keeping a regular distance between stitches.

Actually, it is an abbreviated Cnannel Island Cast on which is one of three traditional cast-ons. This version is very slow and doesn't achieve the required density of the true Channel Island Cast on. Here is a link to a good video demonstrating the CICO. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mbt0hNF8ppavdKM.html

No way is this a traditional Guernsey cast on. These were supposed to be fisherman's sweaters and knitted tightly to protect from some of the adverse weather. The 'eyelets' never existed and are an American addition. A true gansey would never, ever contain eyelets in the welt or any other part of the sweater.

Juniper Clarins I believe you're correct. Ganseys or Guernseys don't have the teardrops pattern that this cast on would create at the bottom cuff or sleeve cuffs. It's nice though, but not Guernsey.
