The picot cast-on creates a wonderful frilly edge and isn't very hard to knit. It's basically a combination of a knitted cast-on and a bind-off. First you cast on a set of stitches, and then you bind them off straight away. Depending on how many stitches you cast on and how many you bind off, you create bigger or smaller picots.

@@nimbleneedlestwo You just mede me very happy!! I have always wanted to learn that because the edge looks so pretty on socks, but haven't found any tutorials in Finnish language and didn't know what that is called in english so I never learned it.

I do a little variation... I cast on 4 stitches, and bind off 2. That gives me a one stitch separation between picots, which I prefer.

I'm using this as a cast on for a pair of socks I knit with a US 0 - 2.00mm how many needle sizes up do you think I would need to be able to get it over the foot? Thanks Norman Love your videos! 🥰

knitting doesn't work like that. Only a swatch can tell you how many you need to cast on :) (setting aside that you didn't tell your shoe size or the yarn you are using) If someone tells you to cast on 96 stitches using this yarn and 2.00 mm needles, that's your failsafe indicator that they know nothing about how knitting truly works.

Love it! I would be interested to see how to do a picot bind off -- maybe it's super similar, but I usually knit in the round so bind offs don't come as easily to me :)
