Every now and then, a truly great sequel comes along which arguably surpasses the original work, but what elements are required to make a great film sequel? Through analysing Blade Runner 2049, a sequel which I personally found to be better than the original film, I hope to understand just what makes for great sequel storytelling.

I agree with you, the character arc of K was much more compelling to me than that of Deckard. 2049 drew me into the narrative completely and I was moved by so many elements of the film. Great analysis.

You're an interesting fellow. Your opinions on most of your essays are fundamentally polar opposites to mine. however, instead of causing a knee jerk reaction, I am genuinely curious about how you can defend your positions and have to keep watching. In regards to Blade runner sequel, it's a decent film but would have worked better as a stand alone idea instead of making this a sequel (should have removed Harrison, as much as I hate to admit it)

Haha thank you! I'm glad these videos are at least somewhat bareable - I'm always put off by reviewers who put their own opinions on a pedestal. Film, like all art, is subjective after all and I think it's much more interesting to try and have a proper discussion and see what other people think

It did not surpass the original. It was apple and oranges. You probably don't get Erik Satie either. I mean, whatever. You remind me of the Chinese saying, better to keep your mouth closed and thought a fool, than opening it and prove the point. I would discourse on the truck load you missed and one major point Ridley Scott missed as well. AND, would add that Harrison Ford got it. Ironic, I know. But it reminds me of something Joseph Campbell said, when someone would ask an artist what the artist's painting meant. If the artist wanted to insult him, he would tell him. Well, I have already insulted you. But, I will give you a clue...it is about the soul. Don't worry, most of the others missed it too. Go ahead and take issue, that is what the ego is for.

There’s only so many ways and times I can stress that this is my opinion. If you disagree that’s cool, there’s no need to claim superiority because you think your opinion is better. I'd love to have an actual conversation about this topic, but your comment essentially amounts to 'No you're wrong, and you're uncultured and stupid' so I mean unless you make an actual point, there's not a lot I can say in response. As is you just come off as pretentious and snobbish.

I like that you don't see the irony in the quotes you're referencing when trying to prove your own point of someone's else's opinion
