How to polish paint (for beginners!): choosing your pad for the shiniest paint

In this video, we demonstrate how pad choice can greatly impact the finish on your automotive paint. With the DIY Detail polishing system, we offer three pads and one liquid polish -- Gold Standard Polish. You have the choice of our wool cutting pad, our yellow waffle pad and our red jeweling pad.
So which one do you choose, and why?
The process of pad choice actually begins BEFORE that; proper paint polishing is all about the prep. We need a clean surface to really determine what's happening on paint.
That's why we spend so much time in this video demonstrating a proper wash and decontamination.
Here's what we use:

I did the 5 year diy ceramic coating on my brand new lexus rx450h+ this weekend. The coating went on awesome. Didnt fight me at all after about a half hr the car was so slick. It feels so smooth now. I moved the car around onto diff light for so long and looked for high spots. Today i found one hugh spit i missed in a weird bend on the trunk door. Its barely noticiable but now i see it. Is the only way to correct this to gold standard polish it out then reapply?

Hoping to get away with a single step with Gold Waffle on my VW when I paint correct in April; but given I'm running it on a 3-mm stroke Orbital Sander, and its VW paint, I got the wool pad as well in case the Gold waffle won't remove the swirls as easily or efficiently. Time will tell when I do test sections.

Thanks for the great information. I always thought that the iron remover was supposed to remove all the “minerals” from the paint. Isn’t that what iron is? All these added steps and costs of products makes it difficult for weekend warriors like me to get the shine we want!
@diydetailofficial
@diydetailofficial Ай бұрын
Iron remover doesn’t remove mineral contaminant. Those are primarily calcium deposits. A little goes a long way, these are products you use at every wash

good info! i do believe, at least when you reach 100.00 subscribers, invest in a harbor freight inspection light to actually show, cause it's a video, the work being done on the paint. I know it's easy to say but I've seen it on many channels

Not sure what to do with my new SUV. Should I polish it even if it doesnt have any scratches or swirls and just use a finisher?

The less you polish, the longer the paint will last.

Does it really matter what order you use water spot remover, tree sap remover, or tar remover when decontaminating a car, as long as they are rinsed well?

why not use water spot remover in conjunction with clay towel?

They are not compatible, DIY Detail Water Spot Remover doesn’t provide sufficient lubrication, and will damage the Perforated Synthetic Decontamination Towel

The phrase, "start with the least aggressive method first" has been said before. So wouldn't it be wise to use the Yellow Waffle followed by the Red Jeweling first before attempting the wool?

Yes, but in this case we knew we needed wool.

@DIY Detail I’ve never seen you use a Tar Remover, only an Iron Remover. I believe a Tar Remover doesn’t react well with those type Decon towels. So when, if at all, would you use a Tar Remover please???
@diydetailofficial
@diydetailofficial Ай бұрын
Use DIY Detail Tree Sap Remover to remove Tar. Perforated Synthetic Decontamination Towel is not compatible with removing tar.
