As our lives get busier and we seem to be more time-poor, it has become even more crucial to find ways to easily apply the Buddhist teachings to our everyday activities. Practicing Buddhism in our daily life doesn't have to be restricted to just meditating on a cushion; there are many ways we can incorporate the practices into our daily actions. In this video I share with you a simple and easy practice of loving-kindness and compassion that we can do any time, irrespective of the activity we’re engaged in.

My sophomore year of high school I was extremely lost, anxious, depressed and ANGRY all the time.. Your videos helped introduce me to Buddhism and helped pull me away from all that negativity. I've come to lose my way again and found myself back here. Thanks for putting out great and informative videos. ❤

I love this! Didnt know that is what I was doing. Everyday on the bus from work, I would pick seat and whoever sits there, I would wish them happiness and to be free from suffering. =) I love doing this, it keeps me smiling all the way home and it feels great because almost 100% of the time I would have no idea who this person is and what they have done, so therefore I am practicing loving-kindness without discrimination. =)

Perhaps this is the most delightful, effective practices that I share with the nursing staff who care for me. In fact, one sensitive staff person has started to use this practice and regained a confident joyful demeanor and is not a Buddhist. I can't thank you enough for transmitting Buddha's teachings in such a "user friendly" style! Your no-self tranquility joy beams from your enthusiastic reincarnation. Thank you very much and G'Day Mate!

Greetings Mindah-Lee, It's a practice for a lifetime. It makes me directly aware of how many people are not happy and are suffering. Several evenings before falling asleep, I've practiced Metta by starting with my parents and relatives (all gone, but still able to benefit on some level) and continued with friends, people who work in the stores where I shop, people I don't even see who keep the lights and power on. Then I wish this for "difficult" people I know or knew, people in the news, and lastly myself. I usually sleep very well. Sending Metta may or may not change others' condition, but it surely is changing mine. Wishing you happiness and freedom from suffering, Ernest, NYC

I wish you know how much I value your information. I’m a 55 year older corporate executive in the US. I’ve watched dozens of other videos and none of them compare to your presentations. Aside front business I’ve raised three daughters. Your teachings have shaped our lives. I wish I had unlimited resources so that I could afford to have you create continued context. I’m not a KZfaq, or even very present on social media. However I have contact with leaders in out community and they share my value of your work. You have a gift. I hope you are meeting you needs for happiness. If I am the only single person experiencing your insight and simple way of explaining things. I would spend every penny I ad to further your efforts. So I may never speak you again. If that happens please know you have changed and saved lives. That was a powerful statement. Thank you for what you be given us. Tim

Mindah-Lee, I work at a high school in SoCal. I am a secretary and have constant contact with students, parents, and other staff. This is a wonderful idea and not an empty practice. I find it works for me to keep me balanced and calm (my office is very stressful), but also giving blessings to everyone I come in touch with daily keeps me giving and receiving the benefits. Thank you so much for your insights.

Winter weather has set in here early and with a vengeance. This also brings out encounters on the road with those who are not as skilled with driving in severe conditions. Wishing happiness and freedom from suffering to the people one encounters who are struggling to make it to their destinations has greatly helped me and made my commute much more pleasant. This is a practice that I intend to continue and expand in the future. Thank you Mindah and may you be Happy and Free from Suffering as well.

First day was fairly easy. Second day was harder to remember. Third day better. For me it has interrupted my reactions at times. I've found when I feel a negative reaction towards someone arising within if I repeat this it helps in stopping the negative reaction. Even if I said the phrase when I first saw the person. It initiates a beneficial pause in the stream of my thinking.

I am pretty new to buddhism, but ive felt my heart going that way for a long time. I havent had a real life guru yet, so i watch clips from youtube for now. When i find someone, that i feel has given me the answers i was seeking, i keep watching more of there videos, on a daily basis I call them my youtube guru's. Until now, my youtube guru's include Thich Nhat Hanh (i love the way, he brakes it down, and makes it simple, and that you can see true compassion in hes entire face) and Lama Dondrup Dorje (showing me, that even martial arts have the underlying principles of compassion) and now, its you. You are my third youtube guru, and maby my best. I didnt know what to expect at first, because of my own stereotyping way of thinking. IAt first, i saw a woman, and the videos ive seen until now, have all been with male guru's, so i was used to that. Secondly, you spoke with no asian accent, and my mind just went on alarm mode, because i thought: "only real asians living in asia, truelly has any valid knowledge. And third, you where young, and until now, i thought, only old age could bring forth that kind of wisdom. But then you spoke, and i immediately felt comfortable with you. Now i dont fell like i HAVE to becomme asian in mind, in order to understand the teachings (and i was willing to do it too), because you have shown me, i can be myself and european, and still accuire the inner possitive seeds of emotions and thoughts. youve shown me, age and sex has nothing to do with whats inside of wisdom. , The greatest thing is, that you tell it in a way, so we western people, can understand easyer. I just never imagined one of my guru's would be that beautifull. Ive seen your videos on "The Noble Eightfold Path", "The Four Noble Truths" and " The Four Great Efforts". This video, is my first exercise or "training", and i see forward to implementing it. Thank you very much, you are very apreciated.

Thanks Borbak. I'm happy to be breaking all the stereotypes! :) But I am just a small practitioner among the likes of Thich Nhat Hanh. He is one of the most remarkable teachers of our time. I'd love to hear how you go with this daily loving-kindness/compassion practice. :)

Thank you Mindah-Lee. I know, Thich Nhat Hanh is my favorite. He has become my rolemodel in compassion. My daily practice with the loving-kindness/compassion exercise have been going 2 ways. At first it was hard to dicipline the mind, so that it would not keep drifting into old thoughts, since this happened a lot, it was never more than 20-30 persons, on a 1 hour walk outside. I know, its pathetic, but fortunately im getting much better now. I dont really count, but i think its at least 80-100 people now, and when its done, i use the rest of the walk to reflect on what ive learned, and when im home, REALLY think it through, and then i start to practice some meditation (The belly breathing, where you breath in, and feel that you have a body, and then breath all your tensions out). What did it help? Whell, i can feel my good feeling thowards my fellow beings (i even expand it to peoples dogs. It meaning the exercise) has increased, and even my feeling of happiness and joy has increased to more than tripple (it feels), so all in all: It surprised me a LOT. Now i feel i really CAN do this, i might not be as stupid as i thought. Once again, thank you Mindah-Lee, i see forward to learn more from you (i do this slow, so i can absorb the things i have learned, before moving on. Not to say i will abandon the practices i have learned, i still will do them too) Namaste

Hi Mindah,, First I did yoga. During savasana (corpse pose) I would fall asleep. After a few months I would remain alert and became aware of the mind and the body. More practice and I became aware of a third entity....the one who watched. I went to Buddhist centres in Sydney and did meditation classes. I did the ten day Vippassana course. I became a vegetarian. I now meditate daily. I no longer get any pain or pins and needles when practicing.

Thank you for your practical video. If I may add , there is a south Indian spiritual guru called vedatri maharishi whose main teaching is to bless others. " valga valamudan " in the native language Tamil means BE BLESSED , you wish your friend and foe, family or stranger. yes it does have good results. There are many followers in this group too. you can Google search as vedatriyam . Glad to know that his teaching was inspired by Buddhism. Be blessed. Mani Buddha.

I am fascinated by your site and want to learn more about Buddhism. I look forward to your members site. What I know about Buddhism is from non-praticioners, Theology comparative religion courses, and folks who "say" they are buddhist but...I have doubts. So, basically, starting at zero. I attempted this exercise today. Of course when there is a mass of humanity passing you in the halls at work and over 100+ folks in the lunch room...the process becomes a bit daunting, Does it count in a meaningful way? I also said it twice to the guy in my bathroom mirror and the dude in the rearview mirror this morning. Is that selfish? Does it take away from the experiment? Is it coincidental or part of a meaningful universe that today...uh....sucked. So many things went bad today. I honored commitments at work even though things going wrong meant I had to step in and work twelve hours to fix everything (I'm a network engineer...when we break stuff EVERYONE knows it). trying to work my way through your videos...I am a seething ball of questions...oh, and thank you SO MUCH for doing all of this. -Steve

Hello Mindah-Lee... I am so very thankful that I have come across your site. I truly feel like I am being schooled properly in Buddhism. I do have a question. I have found that I am becoming more and more scattered when it comes to my meditation practice. I have been faithful for the past two years meditating at least once a day for thirty minutes, sometimes twice. But now I've found that I am balking at getting to my cushion. Meditation has transformed my life considerably, and I am baffled at my desire to avoid it all of a sudden. And when I do finally make my way to practice, I've cut it down to fifteen or twenty minutes. Have you ever experienced this? And if so... what did you do to remedy it?
@vincebandille2223
@vincebandille2223 9 жыл бұрын
***** What a wonderfully insightful answer! It is true that what is getting me to the cushion lately is that inspiration from what has blossomed over the past two years in my life because of meditation. I have found that sitting for thirty minutes on a daily basis seems to create more space in me for longer periods throughout my day. Not that sitting for less is not worth it, but because I have sat for that duration so long, I am sensing the difference now that I am not. Thank you Mindah-Lee... I deeply appreciate your reply.

I'm just beginning to delve into Buddhism, because I've become intrigued in the practices and teachings. I have a question regarding selflessness. From what I understand so far, Buddhism teaches that you should strive to achieve a level of selflessness where you're consistently putting others first. What happens if you get burnt out? What happens when your focus becomes solely about ending others' pain and suffering that you forget to practice self care? Should there be a healthy balance of putting others first and also considering your own personal needs or does Buddhism teach you to eradicate your need for self preservation? Thanks!

HOW TO BE CAME A BUDDHIST

I'm converting to Buddhism from Islam and I'm wondering if there's anything we have to do in our daily lives. In Islam it's praying 5 times a day, and I know we have to meditate, but is there anything else that you do every day? What does a normal day look like in the life of a Buddhist?

Forgot to mention: Your to-do list of videos to produce is probably long enough already. But please consider adding one more on what true happiness is. It would be helpful to know how the Buddha viewed happiness and what he had to say about it too. Or you could just make a brief comment about happiness, rather than having me add stress (suffering) to your work load. Ernest, NYC

***** Oh yes. Thanks very much. Even though we know these things intellectually, it takes skill to achieve them. To me that means meditation. That's a secure place where I can watch whatever arises and passes away. These mind objects are so terribly sticky, hard to let go of. Practicing equanimity, seems to naturally release my :-( and increase my :-)

I am a Christian (Episcopalian) and while I find Buddhism interesting, I also have difficulty seeing or experiencing love there, as I experience with God. Is there a Buddhist teaching that is like unto the Christian teaching that we are all made in the image and likeness of God, and that is where our highest worth is found?

Hi Tracie, in Buddhism, in particular Mahayana Buddhism, we believe that we all have "Buddha nature" which a mind capable of feeling indiscriminate and unconditional love for all beings, and is imbued with great peace and wisdom. Unfortunately, over time, due to repeated wrong thoughts and actions, we have lost access to that state. But through practising virtue we can regain that purified state of being again. I guess in Buddhism, instead of love to a God, we feel faith towards Buddha as a spiritual guide to help us move from our current state to one of ever-lasting bliss and happiness. By looking at Buddha, we can see the potential within ourselves. So our love for him is loving our true nature which we have forgotten. At the end of the day, if the Christian teachings speak to your heart, then you should follow them. :) The Dalai Lama doesn't tell people to change their faith, but to at least start practising meditation. Best wishes.

There are 225 million so called low caste dalits in India and life is hell for them. They cannot even take water from wells. Millions of dalits are becoming Buddhists to escape Hindu caste system.
