Great tips. My pops always taught me that if there’s ever a time you needed to ask of something from your boss, always wait until after they’ve had lunch. They’re more likely to be in a better mood if they’ve eaten.

If you feel as though you aren't being paid what you're worth, go job hunting, apply, find another job, then ask for a raise where you currently work before accepting the offer. Not ideal and may not work for everyone but the comfort in knowing you can afford to walk away from the negotiation is very encouraging when asking for a raise, in my opinion. A lot of places would rather give you the raise than hire and train someone new all over again to do your job.

In todays age if you ask for a raise you almost godda be ready to quit and move on the spot cuz if they deny you and you go back they know your not leaving and if your like he I’m out after 5 years half the time they will be like see ya ✌️ and hire some new guy and pay him way less than you were getting if you want money solely just keep hopping from job to job till you make what you need staying at a job for 10 years might ruin your life

I was so thinking this….all the time, the money, and im a dependable worker….I definitely think its about being able to confidently walk away! I believe this will put them in a state of panic. My 1 yr review is next month im planning on having a offer letter somewhere else. I feel its the only way to get what i want but i have to lie about what i make right now to get the new job somewhere else.

I spent 7 years in an office job and consistently would only get a 1% raise. I was always 15-45 mins late sometimes an hour or 2. They never fired me because aside from the tardiness I was a top employee. It was a weird unspoken agreement of “I can be late but won’t get decent raises.” It was a high stress job though so those extra minutes were priceless to me. Plus I did the math one time and I got paid about 3 grand just to use the restroom that year.

I always say it like this… how much more production and profit do you bring your boss to warrant it? Before I entered managing my health and wellness store/ juice cleanse plan place. They made an item that was sold for 1$ per unit and it sold out EVERYDAY!!! Before I stepped in one employee with the processes laid in place could only produce 20-30, 1$ unit items per hour thennnnn factor in that employee making them wants 12-17$ an hr the margins are THIN. After I implemented my own production means and processes one employee could produce 220-270 units per hour that are 1$ each. That’s a difference of 3-4$ an hr profit to 210-256$ an hr in profit after I took charge. Then I renegotiated my value and pay afterwards immediately because I proved my value in short time in just one single aspect of his business that wasn’t even retail facing

I mean I've heard the saying about the answer will always be "NO" if you never ask the question. I work at Lowe's as a head cashier. Got forklift certified by the company because part of my duties are to make sure the fulfillment people AKA order pullers are caught up at the end of the closing shift. As soon as I went from customer service desk doing returns/online orders and became a head cashier i told HR to add the forklift computer training to my program and get someone i can do some jands on training with.. The ONLY reason was I know at closing time the only operators are outside garden and lumber area and usually my people i oversee in fulfillment are shunned away when the operators tell them "i don't have time for this or that".. I think it's ridiculous that customers will place a whole online order for basically the materials to make a new deck IE concrete bags for footers, post connectors, 4x4 posts or 6x6 AND the decking material. But as they say the squeaky wheel gets the oil so if i don't say anything they'll continue on. It's obvious a company wants to work you for the least amount of pay and get the most work out of you.

Forgets one of the most important point to cover for all of the previous ones : have other job possibilities figured out in case you can't get what you want, and let it be known that it is the case. No matter what you believe you bring to the table, the only true power you have in a negotiation like this is the ability to leave and to therefore have something your boss doesn't want to see happen to bargain with.
@Clevelandsteamer324

I'm just having a bit of trouble finding out how to actually go about asking, can you be too up front? too shy? there's other things like do I do it over email because the boss actually is in a different city or do I set up a meeting. when it gets too that meeting, I know I'll feel a bit nervous and shy because I've never actually properly talked to this guy and there's really no grounded relationship, I know you're supposed to be professional but there's nothing that would actually motivate this guy or make him think I'm deserving in anyway

Or you can have a friend call your employer to verify your employment for a prospective job. Than you can tell your boss you’re not making enough and you may have to start looking for another job as much as you love it there and really don’t want to leave. If you’re met with “ well we’ll miss you” then you’re not worth the raise, or he’s a cheapskate. Either way know your value.
