After 1999 the 2.0 was not offered. This video is very similar to the 2.4, however, it covers everything on the 1999 Eclipse 2.0 timing belt replacement. The video was a little long so that I could cover everything. So I put it into a part 1 and part 2. Part 2 is much shorter. See also my other videos on this Eclipse. Timing belt cover bolts wouldn’t come out. Even raising or lowering motor as much as could. Drilled two holes 5/8” with step down bit inside fender inline with bolts and wahlah. Great video. Short n sweet. Took me 12 hours under a shade tree.

You got that right cuz I'm experiencing the same problem and he did not show him removing the bolts in the video everything else was pretty much on point I've already drilled one hole and I'm about to start the next but I'm glad that you pointed that out, have a blessed day

Fantastic, fantastic video!! I just got a 1996 Eclipse that the owners just beat the hell out of, this is where I'm starting, timing belt, water pump, tensioner, then I'm going to the ignition, and get that bad boy running! Thank you for these videos!

Hey this is a great video my only question is, how did you get the back part of the cover off to get to the water pump? I've got the belt off and everything else but I'm wondering how to get that cover forward enough to get to the bolts on the water pump, any help is really appreciated!

How did you remove the power steering pump bracket and engine mount? I can’t get to those 14mm, the area is stupid tight.. I also had to pull the alternator belt along with the crank pully, couldn’t get the alternator to move or wiggle enough to reduce enough tension

questions did you have to remove the front motor mount? because there's alot of people having trouble taking one of the bolts from the passenger side motor mount.

Hey Thomas, my balance shaft belt broke and I already removed the timing belt, if I turn the crank a full rotation will it damage anything? I don't think there is valve damage but I rushed the project and now i'm nervous to continue. The teeth appeared to be off on the crank side, I don't know if that was before I put this new engine in it. Please advise

Is it possible to do this without an engine hoist and removing the motor mount? Im trying not to break the bank to fix my belt problem. The belt popped.

yea , i do all the time. i still move the front mount, but a jack is fine.

It's a little late but I see u still post vid. And I had a question on how to set the timing not on the bottom like what u did during this vid. But the top two that u said were already set, do I just spin them till there lined up or..? It would help me out Alot if I knew

yep spin the cams till there are lined up. thats all for them. they just spin the once, its the crank (below) that spins twice to the cams once. so you must have the botom set on top dead center. but the top ( cams ) just line them up. good question,,, thanks for watching.

two of them can stay in the cover when you remove it, just pull them out as far as you can, then pull up the cover.

One thing I would like to know, and I would like an answer if you care to answer is how did you get those two bolts out of the bottom of the motor mount plate off the timing belt cover without drilling two holes cuz that's the only way that these are coming out

the cam marks should face each other, the crank should be at about the 1 o clock position ( see mark ) number one piston on tdc ( top dead center when crank is in that position. ( verify tdc because you dont want to be 180 degrees out. then put the timing belt on.

when you are turning to line up the bottom mark are you turning it clockwise or counter clock wise?

always seems best to turn in the same direction as the rotation of the engine, in this case clock wise. but if you are referring to the crank, its ok. the cam you for sure want to turn in the same as rotation of the engine. thanks again.

turn the nut that holds the sprocket on, turning clock wise is always best so you do not make the cam bolt loose. you can do this !!!

its in the pan, and you wont be removing the pan for this job. that would be your call. if you think it needs it, or you have low oil pressure then sure. thanks for watching.

it sounds like the timing is off by one tooth, double check the timing marks

Thanks so much for this video!. It would be even better if you include the footage of you taking it off then just speed up the playback for us laymen non mechanics. My car needs this done l, it pops air every so often and stutters.

I'm having trouble getting my bolts out for the timing cover! They won't line up with that hole in the wheel well and the engine won't go up or down enough to clear the walls! My next step is to pull the damn thing

You must remove the upper and lower motor mounts and use a jack to lower the engine and remove timing cover bolts. I have also pulled the bolts out as far as they can and removed timing cover with bolts still in the cover, but there is very little room to do it this way. thanks for watching.

You can take off the front Motor Mount & push the motor over,with 2 guys or a bottle jack, sideways,to get those long bolt's out.

I cant remove the two long bolts from the timing cover. they are too long between the frame and cover everything else is off I raised the engine up and down but they will not come out they are to long how do I remove them?????
