How to: Replace E90/E92 Steering Column (Steering Lock FIXED)

Today, we're going to be replacing the steering column assembly on my 2006 E91 Wagon with a newer column that does not have the steering lock! This is a great upgrade as the early model E90 cars had a column lock that was recalled as it could fail and leave the driver stranded. With this new column, and the proper coding, we won't have to worry about this issue in the future. I hope this helps you fix your car!

Does the steering adjustment work though as mine doesn't now just wondering if it's an easy fix or if it's screwed by adjustment I mean up down forward backward on the leaver thanks

Did BMW have a recall on the steering locks? have a 2009 328i with steering lock issue, recently checked and I do have 3 open recalls for mine, PVC heater motor, Blower Motor Wiring and Driver's Front Air Bag.

I just replaced water pump/thermostat, now steering locked...vehicle in park, auto-trans. I swear this has become a hobby/addiction!!! { I had other problems with it before too} 2006 325i E90 N52. Question: Is it possible to remove the lock mechanism completely? My 2006 325i is still on jacks, trying to decide what to do with it. thanks for the video!

I there a difference between an automatic and manual cars, steering column? And does this fix the issue of the car start button not even sensing that its being pushed? (2007 e90 328xi, automatic)

Make sure to put the airbag down with the BMW logo side up! just incase it becomes a claymore it does not launch itself up Edit: Although it may not happen to you, It is good practice. Keep the videos coming!

hi random question pls answer if you notice ! the rubber boot at 4:53 how did you manage to get that back in after removing ?! i removed it but cannot for the life of me get it back attached how it was previously! does it matter if its not fully reattached? thanks in advance

Hi! I’ve gotten erros regarding my steering-torque sensor, which disengages my eps. I thought it was going to be on the steering collumn, but I dont know if I see it. Do you know the location of the steering-torque sensor is? Great video btw!

Hey great video thanks. I’m looking to replace my column on my e92 m3. I’ve already got the air bag, steering wheel off and trim. So it looks like it’s just the 5 bolts holding the column and it’s a straight swap?

Hello my guy I have a bmw 2007 2d 335 I and I had an accident airbags pop out steering wheel as well I bought all 3 of them they are install but now everything is done the car has a red steering wheel lock and the car wont turn on except the barber electrical the Mecanic said it’s a module replace it but I’m still doesn’t turn on any recommendations on what it might be

I had the same red steering lock symbol, bought me an emulator and took out the plug from the steering lock mechanism and plugged it to the emulator and it turned on .

Great video dude! Question, i am considering buying one from an auction and the steering lock is on but it also maybe due to low volatage. If i manually unlock that will solve the problem? But i think you said it will probably throw codes!? Thanks

Might be from low voltage, worst case scenario you should be able to install the steering lock delete box, or just upgrade to the newer column entirely. Hope that helps!

Well i wanted to have confidence i could maybe get it running without a computer in the moment so watching what you did seems it makes it possible but now i am intruiged about the delete! So i did get kind of confused about when you switched out columns, so you are sayibg newer models dont have that lock and you can switch the column out but then will there comuter not look for that lock and throw and error? Thanks for your patience with my questions!

@@urighht once you swap it out, you also have to tell the CAS module that it doesn't exist anymore. This can be done via coding
