New Brake Pads from 1AAuto.com 1aau.to/ib/1ABPS02896
This video shows you how to install rear brake pads and rotors on your 2014-2018 GMC Sierra 1500. Brake pads wear out over time, much like tires, and need replacing, on average, every 50,000 miles, with variations depending on driving habits and environment. Brake rotors may also need to be replaced if they are warped or grooved. Often, it’s safer and more cost effective to replace pads and rotors at the same time. Squealing or grinding noises, or wheel vibration are all symptoms of worn brakes.
This process should be similar on the following vehicles:
2014 GMC Sierra 1500
2015 GMC Sierra 1500
2016 GMC Sierra 1500
2017 GMC Sierra 1500
2018 GMC Sierra 1500

Many thanks for your videos from a shade tree mechanic. Everything is well explained and the videos are clear and easy to see the part being worked on and what's done to it. Excellent presentations.

One thing you forgot is that metal plate on the brake pad. At 18:00. Not all new pads come with that plate. For the inner pad that plate should be transferred to the new brake pad if the new brake pad does not have it already. Without the plate the protruding pin can damage the caliper piston and cause uneven pressure when the brake is applied. Also when you pushed the caliper piston back in you made no mention of popping the cap for the brake fluid reservoir to allow for equal pressure in the line. Then pressing the brake and resetting after truck is on the ground, then replacing the cap. These are minor but important steps people should know.

Great video! Very concise and well spoken. I noticed on this video compared to the replacing of the front brakes video is that the hub on the rear doesn't have a locking screw like the front one did. Why is that? Also, when torquing down the bolts on the slider pins, I noticed that you used channel locks on to hold onto the rubber boot to prevent that slider pin from moving while you torque it down. Does this damage that rubber grommet? Thanks for sharing this video. Cheers!!

In the rear brake video from 2 years ago for the Yukon I just watched, this same guy uses parts cleaner and a bore brush to clean out the sliding pins. This video he says not to uses cleaner on the rubber boot....hmmmm

Great video... Except, I cannot get the rotor off. The parking brake seems to be holding it on. In the video, you basically just say "slide the rotor off" but I've been pounding and prying, pushing and releasing the parking brake pedal, etc etc and I cannot get that rotor off! The driver's side came off after a lot of pounding and prying but the passenger side just will not come off!

I don't understand the need to put grease between the caliper bracket and the metal brake pad clips. The clip doesn't move relative to the bracket, so what purpose does the grease serve?

+Charles Wolcott We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
