Telling a story is a cooperative venture. If you tell the reader everything, you're not giving the reader a chance to use his imagination.

Whenever I want to tell a character’s backstory, I made sure the details were limited. I felt the need to show that certain character’s backstory at the next book and at the right time. I really like expanding things for my fiction, and I made decisions that feels entertaining but wacky. To show a character’s backstory, there must be a right opportunity to do it. Do you get what I mean?
