Salmon fishing can be insanely intimidating to a new angler. When you become a little bit more familiar with salmon fishing, you start to explore different ways to catch fish. Different baits to try for different salmon. Fishing with Bobbers and Eggs for chinook and coho salmon is probably the most effective way to catch these fish. In this video Kevin Gray talks about how to rig a bobber and egg setup for fishing rivers & creeks targeting either coho or chinook salmon.

Gotta say, that was a good tutorial. Nice explanation of figuring the bottom. I struggle with bobber fishing and lose patience and go back to drift fishing. I know bobber is hella affective. Especially for you. Whenever topic comes up of bobber fishin' I tell people you are the best that I know. So if you guys wanna know how its done, listen to what this guy says!

This is so different from float fishing where I live! The typical setup is a 13’6” rod with a centerpin on it. The reel always has mono on it (no more than 12lb). The floats are typically 7g (changing depending on the water conditions obviously) and are fixed to the line with surgical tubing. A swivel below the float connects the leader line (usually an 8 or 6lb). Hooks are usually smaller too

Here on the east coast,we fish the salmon river for salmon, steelies, coho, browns, and rainbows. We mainly use centerpins, big 12- 13.7 ft. Rods, and we use 8lb. Main lines with 6 lbs. 4 ft. Leaders, we like a challenge. Yet it .

I guess there are different ideologies. I use a 3.5gram float and 14-20lb mono or braid to a 10 pound fluoro leader. Landed a 20lb chinook yesterday and had zero issues landing it. 25-40 lb leader is wayyy over kill imo. Also the salmon in my rivers spook easy and would definitely be scared of that giant float and probably the heavy line.

Speaking of Jigs, if going Coho float fishing, do you recommend bringing another rod for jigging or just switch the set up on the same rod and use that for jigging?

Pimmpin Jim I got a lamiglas rated to 4 oz. as long as it’s got a pretty nice action. It’s my plug rod but it works perfect for those heavier float or plunking setups.
