I remember the days rolling & tipping wooden chris crafts. 2 weeks of sanding. 3 hours to paint. Using 3 people, 1 pushing scaffolding, 1 rolling, 1 tipping. Oil paint, used 4"roller, 4"foam brush..when finished . They where beautiful.. I've seen some clowns using Sears weatherbeater.. Everyone has there own way of painting, we live an learn..its all about maintaining...

Awlgrip applied properly (using fineline tape so not to have a ridge) should not be sanded, buffed, polished or waxed. This destroys the surface of the awl grip and it will fade much more quickly and stain or attract dirt easier. Look at aircraft (and large yachts), still shining after several years.

Hi Jon, This awl grip was on a 1993 broward yacht, the recipe in the older awlgrip two part epoxy paint, can be buffed, sanded etc. The new awlgrip on other hand you cant even look at it before it scratches. I was using old awlgrip in this video. Now you would'nt normally need to buff / sand if I sprayed this paint job, but this video is on rolling and tipping, and I don't care who you are, you are gonna get some brush stroke lines and imperfections in a roll and tip job. The light scuff and polishing after got rid of all stroke lines and made this an amazing job for this older boat. As for the boats still shining years after, this is majorly due to the surface protection coatings being applied on a yearly basis. (some use awl care :( , I prefer ceramic coatings or nano polymer sealers on two part epoxy paint) So hope this helps you understand whats going on in this video! Could you please tell me which AwlGrip paint you used? Some of them cannot be buffed.. right? Why don't you buff only the tape line?

Hi Antonio, This is Matahorn white awlgrip from the 90's. The new awlgrip should not be buffed or sanded at all. The awlcraft line of paint can be buffed or sanded. Its like all things in life the new stuff sucks, and the old recipe for paint was extremely durable and user friendly. Also this is a roll and tip job and not a spray job, therefore to get rid of some of the brush stroke lines I do a mild wet sand and polish to further enhance the clarity and uniformity of the surface. I then protect the paint with a top coat sealer. Thanks for the comment!

I paint boats and you don't need such a process after a paint job, so I'm not convinced that's the way not at all!!

Awgrip cannot be wet sanded, polished, waxed are buffed will take years off the life of the paint,, awcraft can be wet sanded polished waxed and buffed.
