Check out ATXled. They have DC Low voltage switches and lights. They put the converter in a panel and you just run low voltage wiring . Cheaper and safer and no noise.

Hey thanks for the advice! Are we worried about running electrical conduit through our partitions? I know if I'm venting HVAC in the room I need baffle boxes. I need to get the electricity into the "room with in the room". Do I need baffle boxes for 3/4" electrical conduit? Seems like it could be a potential sound leak.

No, that would be pretty extreme. Just use acoustic sealant where there are any penetrations through the wall. I like to use surface mounted electrical or even better run the electrical through the acoustic wall and ceiling if building one.

Thanks for the info! That's great the dimmer worked. Do you know the specific reason it didn't cause any noise? The type of lighting? Type of dimmer? Certain way of wiring? I'd like to put one in my new control room but don't want to be just hoping for the best. Your'e the first person I've seen recommend them lol!

Hey Mitch! My best guess is that the dimmer works because I am using LED lights. The dimmer is nothing special and is probably one we got at home depot. There wasn't any special way of wiring it, although keeping all your audio on its own leg of the panel will still help. I am not sure I should be recommending them haha, but it did work for me.

Great video, I’m surprised by how few videos there are on KZfaq about building a studio. Would you help me, I’m trying to figure out the electrical wiring. I don’t know how many Amps I will need. I’m in the USA, so the Voltage is 110. I’m building an Atmos setup that I also want to use for home theater so I want more Sub power than most people. I was a DJ, my system had a 5000 watt QSC amp going to a massive 18” sub and 2000 watts going the the rest of the system. All of this was would get plugged into regular outlets at venues. I don’t understand how I didn’t trip circuit or start fires. Normal outlets are 110-120V at 15A, that’s a max of 1800 watts! Thanks

So as far as electrical needs I would definitely talk over your plan with an electrician. As for the sound side, make sure to do what I said in the video to avoid electrical hums and get as clean electricity as possible. Thanks for watching.

Hey Wilson, this is very interesting, lots of info I did not consider! I have a question - at 3:14 you talk about separating audio stuff from lets say building stuff.. but where do you connect your DAW computer? Does it count as audio? I appreciate all your audio stuff is ultimately connected to it so I'd say it would be audio, is this right? Thanks!

Hi Roy! Thanks for watching. Yes, the computer is connected into the audio outlet. I have a 4 gang outlet directly behind my desk and all things related to the audio (really anything but lights) goes into those outlets.
