I bought my Matthews V3X 29 from Ross. Good guys. As a student of the bow. I now work on my own bow and build my own arrows. Ross just could not meet my needs. I take my son to Arizona Archery club. They seem more devoted to teaching new people. Ross is ideal for experienced hunters who just want the basic stuff done to get their bow set up. I wish Ross would involve the bow shooter more in the set up process. They were really hands off with helping me get set up with my first Matthews. I feel letting me shoot it through paper would have helped me get it tuned better. When I built a paper tuner at home I found with any arrow I shot it tore 1.5 inches right. I put the bow in my bow press and in five min of swopping top hats I fixed the tear. I had never used my new press yet. Good learning experience. I am thinking of going to a thumb release. Thanks for the great video. I will say I am an Nott thee average archer. Even Arizona Archery club sets the bows up without you. Something I want to be involved in first hand. So I do all my own work now.

I want to say thank you so much for this video. It has helped me shoot more off of a surprise instead of slapping the button. My groups have tightened up tremendously thanks.

The mental game is tough to conquer. I had a mishap with a thumb release last year practicing where i anticipated the shot and the flinch caused me to actually let go of the release. It bounced off my bow and hit the house just barely missing a window. I was scared to death of that happening again so i went back to my index release. This year i broke the thumb release back out and have been doing well with it so far. Appreciate the tips and your backstory. Good luck this season man

Yikes man! It really is tough breaking the mind. Glad to hear you're doing better! 👊🏼

Great video! It almost seems like both of the methods you describe accomplish the same thing a tension or hinge release does, but with options for how to break the shot. When I had a compound a few years ago, I used a trigger release and had the same kinds of anticipation issues I sometimes have with firearms. Been shooting a recurve since then with fingers, but I am about to get into compounds again for hunting, and I think I will be going with a thumb release this time. Thanks!

Ive listened to so many people on this. And none of them hold water. No matter what anyone says…. In the end , the thumb always acts independently of the rest of the hand , arm , back…. And activates the trigger. ALL!!! Except for your first one. You’re causing the release to move by manipulating parts of your hand other than the thumb. Im going to try this although im thinking it’s going to take tremendous mental concentration to get it right. Thanks for the video

I have no issue with a rifle shot surprising me...but I’m in natural point of aim. With archery, pin float plus surprise shot is a mental block I can’t do..at least not yet.
