Dominican Spanish sounds fast and bouncy. When I moved to Florida I was like Damm. I was that's some Fly stuff right there. They thought I was from Haiti. However, When I started talking they was like where you from? I said, I just moved from Minneapolis. They said, ohhh!!! Your accent is not like anything from here either. We started laughing. My Sister knows more Spanish than me. Because her friends was teaching her. She can almost have full conversations.

@@glockks56 It has been three years but that song doesn't have a lot of slang words. I'm not cuban and I understand most of it. What happens is that "picao" is "picado", not slang just droppin of sounds (a very common one across all variants of Spanish, to drop the d in words like that). Quiquiriquí it's a common onomatopoeia for the sound roosters do, maybe I am missing something here (as I said I'm not cuban) but it doesn't seem to go beyond that. Also candelita do sounds as cuban slang because I don't recognize it, I thought it meant fire if I deduce from another Celia Cruz song but here it talks about "fumar" (to smoke). And that's all, maybe there are two specific cuban words there, the rest is just common things in Spanish in general.

I love Dominican Spanish. I want to preface this next comment with this: I think Dominican Spanish is the best and I also love that is evolving. I think the last thing about “i” becoming “r” or “l” is like a compensation for El Cibao shift. People being unsure what is a “true r” and a “true i” in speech, so they, for lack of a better word, “guess” on whether to use “r/l” or “i”.

@ I removed my comment about correct spanish as the problem only appear in your first spanish sentence (that I can not understand) The rest are OK. Only the missing d is similar to local spanish accent. The rest of your examples are quite unusual. Normally america spanish is influenced by Andalucia spanish accent, that is quite similar to american spanish, but not to your examples. But the "feeling" is yet similar to andalucia accent. Many emigrants to america come from there as the main port to america was Sevilla.

Hi Rickie. You mentioned accents and some people think they're better than others (linguistically) because of their accent. I live in Birmingham, England. Many people here and abroad think they know what a Birmingham accent is but they're actually listening to a "black country" (west of Birmingham) accent. Thankfully I don't have much of any accent. Those from the south of England consistently make fun of anyone and how they speak if they're from the wider Midlands area or further north. So it would seem it happens everywhere!

What are some Dominican "resources" to help grasp the accent if you're not actually able to speak with dominicans all the time? What did you use?
6 жыл бұрын
Search for Dominican tv programs on KZfaq. I will tell you that most of them are talk shows the interview artists and celebrities, which I don't really love, but they help. There's a show called de extremo a extremo, aquí se habla español, noche de luz etc. There are also Dominican movies, which aren't always the best quality, but they have the real slang and accents in there and everything like that.

So interesting love the way they speak..the only famous Dominicans that I'm aware of are Romeo Santos and Prince Royce lol and I was listening to a song the other day by La Insuperable and instead of saying "Me haces feliz" she said in one of her songs "Me hace feli" maybe she's from Puerto Rico idk but really Dominican and Puerto Rican accent is really beautiful but I'm more so used to Mexican way of talking lol anyways buen trabajo! Bendiciones y Dios te bendiga!

Maya Sanders yep. In Bachata, they don't use their accent too much because they want to be international. And yep that's why she has beef with la materialista usually artists have beef with other artists from their country.

I’m Mexican American but this is dope. I love seeing diversity and other ethnic customs. There’s a lot of Puerto Rican’s and Mexicans (probably Dominicans too) where I’m from but I never really knew the type of accent that Dominican’s have. I know a couple Puerto Rican’s who don’t have the really fast speaking Spanish. One of my friends sounds like how we Mexicans speak Spanish, haha. Anyways, not to be rude or anything, I was just never really exposed to seeing both together, but I never really knew the difference between Puerto Rican and Dominican Spanish. That’s why I said “(probably Dominican’s too)” up there. I just watched a commercial with Al Horford and he spoke really slow and really clear Spanish. Then I thought about how Romeo Santos and Prince Royce also have a really slow and really clear Spanish when they sing. I wanna get to know more about the language

Hey! Thanks for supporting the channel and checking out the video! You can def. learn more about it here! I actually started out learning Mexican Spanish. It's awesome. Well, it isn't too bad if you're ok with neutral Spanish. It's like being an American speaking English, when an Aussie pronounces something like Mate (mäyt) you know what it is. Well, at least if you know what the differences are.

Bro, I just used this video for my Social Studies and Basic English classes. History Hint: Most of our, vowel drops, and consonant drops are as early as the very dawn of slavery here in the D.R. (the whole hemisphere actually since this was the land Spaniards arrived in first) enslaves were bereft of their African culture by being obligated to assume Spanish culture, religion, and most importantly learn the language. No immigrant will ever speak any language as a native speaker. So essentially, our way to speak Spanish was the first-ever AAVL (African-American Vernacular Language) since it came from Spanish, yet a Spaniard would not understand when we speak the way we do.
