How To Stamp On Metal: Easy! FOR BEGINNERS!

TOOLS YOU'LL NEED FOR BEGINNERS STAMPING:
- Any letter stamping set
- A bench block
- Any hammer...or a brass hammer if you want to be fancy and professional
- Any kind of tape! I use painters tape
- A black sharpie
- A piece of metal, duh, aluminum works well and is what I used in this video
- A piece of fabric or a polishing cloth
- A flat, sturdy surface...NOT YOUR MOM'S BRAND NEW KITCHEN TABLE! I forgot to mention this but stamping could potentially cause damage to the surface which you are stamping on, so just be smart.

- Hobby Lobby...I know, calm down, but they sell STAMPS AND BENCH BLOCKS RELATIVELY CHEAP! THEY ALSO SELL ALUMINUM AND COPPER SHEET METAL!

I love your video - I just got my stamping stuff, ruined a dozen blanks trying to line stuff up correctly, watched some videos... but I learned more from yours than anyone else's. I also like the fact you said, "Pissed off" - you are so natural, and I really enjoyed that, as most videos are so boring and perfect. Keep it up!

Just finished watching your video. Thank you for taking the time to show your skills. I have been trying to stamp for a while and my letters just weren't even, straight and the depth of letters were not uniform. Your casual delivery gave me the encouragement and confidence to get out there and try again. The biggest thing I got out of your video was that I only strike the letter stamps once; and depending on the letter, how hard to strike the letter. Huge difference. Thank you!

You are so cute! I didn't get bored or clicked away. The easiest way I find to edit is to upload all the pieces or just one piece of video to KZfaq, as unlisted then you can edit right in KZfaq. But don't stress about it. I'm curious about exploring this new area using metal lettering. It looks great, an additional expense, but it looks super fun. New subbie! Big thumbs up. ;)

I loved your video! I've always been interested.. and this is a great start. I'm wondering if you can wrap the metal against a stone or something and then make that into a pendant? Love it.

Great video! But you actually don't want to use just any hammer you might have. You want to get a copper headed hammer because it is a softer metal than the stamp's metal so when you strike it, it doesn't make the metal stamp bounce (and it does even if you don't feel it) and give a second impression or ghosting of the letter. If you're a beginner and you don't care, you just wanna try then yeah any old hammer. But if you want to do it right and you want to keep your tools and stamps in good quality then go with a copper headed hammer.

actually they recommend brass ( not copper) but I have used a 8 oz steel hammer for 7 years with no issue or damage to my stamps.

This video was super helpful! Thanks so much for sharing! You mentioned in you video that aluminum never gets tarnished. I was just wondering what you think about using sterling silver or gold-filled blanks. Do you know if either will tarnish?

do you HAVE to buy the base like the stamp pad thing? or can you use a piece of wood, or a thick metal underneath to stamp onto? I ask coz I don't want to have to buy more stuff and I know my dad has a lot of wood and a lot of metal here that he doesn't use. Hopefully you reply. Thanks

Love your videos! How do you stamp letters like g, j, p,q,y using the tape method? Do you undo the tape to stamp those letters and then put the tape back or something else?

Thank you for the tutorial! I have a question. What size letter stamps are good to use? What size hole puncher are you using? There are so many tools.. blanks.. sizes.. gauges out there and I don't know what to get or what to start off with. Eek! This hobby can get expensive. Lol

Oh, and one more thing, don't you wish you use your hammer on the fingers of those who gave you those undeserved thumbs down. Be encouraged. I think my therapist will approve of my new hobby. :)
