I have never tried that....hummmm. My guess would be that the clay would be too thick and would end up chipping out, but hey, give it a go! Let us know how it goes :)

I think the clay shrinks too. Not sure though; its been a few years since I taught any of those classes.

I've tried Gilders Paste vs the sharpie. Chose the sharpie. The GP has wax in it and I found it difficult to wipe off if it goes outside the grove; or when I would finally get it out of the upper portion there wasn't anything left in the grove. Just was too problematic for me. I prefer to keep things simple.

There are now antique brass, copper, gold and silver colors out. You can get them individually or as a 4 pack for $25.

Great question. I am not sold that one is better than the other, although my guess is that the enamel will last longer on most pieces. I tested a ring with both the stamp enamel and a sharpie in different words (impressions). The first difference is enamel came out darker (blacker). I found that over time (a long time, like 5 months of daily wear) the enamel chipped out and the sharpie faded but remember this was done on a ring where my skin from my other fingers were rubbing against it. I would guess that in something like a pendant, the enamel would last longer than sharpie but I don't expect it to be a gigantic difference. One difference is the easy of polishing....the enamel was much easier. If you find that when you wipe it off the surface, a bunch gets wiped out of the impressions, then you likely didn't let it dry too long. Hope this helps! Have fun!

We like using the industrial permanent marker. I feel like the enamel gets into the grooves better. Don't know about whiteboard marker. It wipes off easily so maybe not?

@@beaducation I used to use permanent marker but it was a hassle removing the excess from around, so is this as easy as it shows in the video? and does it stay well in the engraving? because i already bought it and waiting for it to arrive

yep, you can use industrial sharpie, nail polish or patina

Hi Jackie! With the tests that we have done, it does not fade but it can "chip" out if it is getting bumped against something like skin from another finger if used on a ring. I have had that experience, but I think it's awesome for pendants!
