Ive spent the past 14 years replacing the leather on worn steering wheels and over the years ive come across wheels that just needed some care verses all new leather. Ive found you can actually repair some major damage in the leather without removing the leather. The most basic scrapes and scratches or simple worn spots, Kiwi Parade Shoe Polish in the round tin can is the product to get. You have to put some balls into rubbing it off to generate friction heat but the stuff will fill in the low areas and build up if applied in layers. At the end, apply to the whole wheel and buff and you will be absolutely amazed how well it turns out. Nothing will get on your hands once you have buffed it off. Using 180 grit sand paper and sanding out bigger defects by feathering the edges and making the work area larger (just like body work) will remove the worst of damage. Even if there are holes in the leather you can build up the areas using Super Glue and the dust from sanding. If you can feel the defect you will see it so no point in getting the horse ahead of the cart.

To answer your question at the beginning: The audio/seek controls can be added if you have the AUX buttons. You'll need to make changes to SCCM and IPC in FORScan in order to get the car to accept the new switchpack. Make sure you get the appropriate switch pack for SYNC and non-SYNC FPIUs (SYNC has the voice command button and phone controls or media/mute controls for non-SYNC. They are not interchangeable nor will it add voice commands or phone controls.). No changes to the harness is needed, it's plug and play. I've posted the FORScan stuff on Explorer forum. As consequence to doing so, you'll have 2 DTCs set for Generic Function Module if you delete the buttons. You can leave it as is, or unplug the module behind the glovebox. Either way it doesn't matter, no lights will illuminate on the dash. As a side note, the steps are the same on the Taurus based Police Interceptor for swapping the steering wheel.

It would have been fun if you attached the new wheel with its buttons and showed whether the radio controls started to work. The person who removed your new wheel got frustrated and didn’t make extra $70.

With my steering wheel the volume buttons work but not the seek buttons. Any idea on why?

I was thinking about swapping mine. I found a really good deal on one but the only difference is that it has paddle shifters, I figure they probably won’t work and that’s okay but do you think there would be any potential issues happening? Love the videos btw very helpful and informative

How did you get the lights to come on on the controls

Yo bro so I got my keyfob to work and remote start but when lock the vehicle it don’t horn when locking do Yk why and my horn does work it doesn’t horn for neither my fpiu or fpis
