If you ran city water from a tap and out a drain as apposed to recycling the dyno water like that the shops overhead goes way up, dyno session price goes up for customer etc... But some shops do have city water plumbed into the system for certain overheating/heat soak situation pump city water threw because it's MUCH colder temp than the tank water

If you’re not daddy warbucks, it’s best to keep your engine build sane guys, especially if it’s your only ride. If buying the hot rod and building a monster engine to put in it don’t bankrupt you then car insurance and gas bills will. Trying to find obsolete parts and incompetent mechanics will also have you going nuts. Been there, done that, already.

If you would have done a little work on the heads your horsepower would have gone even more, remember the bottom end (block) is torque the top end (heads) is horsepower performance, when trying to beef up an engine take time to do a quick port and polish job (just take advice from Joe Mondello's tips on the heads for performance). Good video guys.

I thought the same. Either the dyno is conservative with output or that is extremely disappointing with that much money in parts. I think they threw wayy too much cam at it for the compression. Basically with the overlap about 7 to 1 is the result. Probably would have welcomed a supercharger with less ignition timing

They only switched up the cam/lifters and some valvetrain parts that were messed up and reused everything else and picked up a ton of power upstairs. Looks like if they turned it higher would have made very close to 500 hp on an old set of Dart Pro 1's on pump gas. Not bad!

so little power from such a huge motor. im from rotary world, tiny little 1.3 litre mazda rotaries here in Australia push out over 1000 hp, such a shock for me to see a massive engine make less than 500 hp. my mind is blown!
@a4000t
@a4000t 5 жыл бұрын
rotary engines dont make 1000hp without a dose of nitrous or turbo/super charging. are you comparing naturally aspirated to naturally aspirated? what are stock rotaries? 250~ hp? the difference is the chevy actually makes torque.You could turbocharge a smallblock chevy to 2500hp. also,dont go by this channel for serious chevy horsepower lol. they didnt optomise anything.
@davidhusband5022
@davidhusband5022 5 жыл бұрын
@@a4000t yeah i know rotas need turbos, just like the worlds fastest v8s need blowers. it still just blows my mind how big v8s are and how many moving parts they need. here in aus even 6 cylinders and 4 cylinders pump out huge power. with 6s running 5 second passes now, rotas knocking on the door of fives, one second behind the worlds fastest top fuelers, i am suprised people even bother with 8s anymore. i know people like what they like, i just cant get over how massive these v8s are and how much space they take up, then they are placed in heavy vehicles! it just goes against motorsport principles, power to weight etc. but thats just me!
@a4000t
@a4000t 5 жыл бұрын
@@davidhusband5022 The v8's are big to make up for lack of turbo charging etc LOL. The amount of moving parts in a piston engine is friction. Realize you can build a typical 632 chevy,with a simple carb,street compression and no turbos etc and it will make a 1000+hp and at least 800ft lbs of torque.Small blocks do 650HP pretty easy too and treated right they last forever. its relatively simple to do.again no naturally aspirated 4's,rotaries,etc can do this,its cost effective for the backyard mechanic.Time marches on and these dinosaurs show their age but there is still no mistaking the sound of a good v8. You can do anything u like to a rotary and they sound horrible,hurt the fillings in my teeth when they wind up. Of course sound is subjective and some think they sound good..go figure :) put one of these rotaries in a heavy vehicle and see how it goes, since they make little torque,there is a reason they are always in 1500lb coke can cars.

@2015_Rubicnn
@2015_Rubicnn 5 жыл бұрын
What a dumb comment....you are comparing to completely different engines. Rotary engines are a piece of junk that you need to spin at high RPM to make any power, plus adding a turbo. See how long that rotary lasts compared to this V8 that doesn't need to spin that high to make decent torque, and HP. By the way, this engine is not huge, it's merely a stroked 350 chevy....

Just a set of springs would have gotten the tests really close and been a lot more interesting and made a lot more $cents$. No way is 80 hp pulled out of thin air. Again... Where's the power? Why the hell would you run a solid roller cam and only turn 6500? What a waste of parts and time. Sad guys. Might as well just put a set of double pumper heads on it with an RV cam and use and Edelbrock double humper carb.

I wish i could dive into their dumpster. Thats where the missing horsepower is. A simple head and compression ratio change would have netted more than that.

To big of a cam, not enough compression. I would want compression with heads and cam like that around 11:5:1. With aluminum heads and as big a cam as you guys have you should bleed off enough cylinder pressure to run pump gas even at 11:5:1. For a solid roller 383 this motor isn’t very stout

mrhazel spinning it past 6800 wouldn’t matter as much if they had more compression there would be more power all over the place with those heads and especially up top
@KingJT80
@KingJT80 4 жыл бұрын
@@nathanwood1567 11.5 to 1 would not have matter either. Maybe it would have made ALMOST 500 but your not gonna get that much more power with another point in compression over the compression it has now And if you have a solid roller that doesn't spin past 7000 there really isn't a point of having one. A hydro roller will do that

Those are pitiful numbers for the parts used in that 383ci engine. It should be over 525-550hp as equipped. There's another 50-75hp in there somewhere. NHRA legal "stock" 255hp 350s produce 450+hp with production heads and intake & Q-jet.

bennettBennett alot of people build 383 strokers, then put whatever aftermarket head they can afford without knowing the lift flow numbers. Not all 383 strokers are the same. Stock headed 383's are around 325-375 flywheel, all the way to over 700 horse for a drag race only setup.
