This is why they developed Decapitator, because people where using Echoboy like this. So they made a separate plugin with the tape emulation and expanded on it. The tape emulation in Echoboy is the same algorithm as "A" in Decapitator.

I’d be interested to hear more about this. Because the manual says A is modeled after the preamp of the 350, not the 102 tape itself.

A is also an emulation of the Ampex 350 tape drive preamp

I've checked the manuals and can confirm that the Decap Type A is based on the Ampex 350 tape machine from 1953 and the Echoboy Studio Tape setting is modelled on the Ampex ATR-102 from 1976. They are quite different tape machines with their own characters separated by over twenty years of technological progress.
