In order to use Google Home to cast to individual speakers, each speaker would need to have an individual Chromecast Audio connected to it, so each of these speakers would need to have an analog audio input (so you can't do this with a PLAY:1, PLAY:3, Sonos One, etc.). If you had a setup like that, you could send audio to all of them at once. However, if you have a Chromecast Audio connected to a single Sonos unit, it can share that audio with other Sonos speakers that are grouped together in the Sonos app, and in this case, you can share the audio with all Sonos speakers at once (including the PLAY:1, PLAY:3, Sonos One, etc.).

Great video. I've also left this comment on your blog, it might help someone. A quick 'tune up' tip. I have a Home Mini and don't ever want to use it for music playback. In the Google Home device (for my Mini) settings, find "Default media playback" Set this to the Chromecast or Chromecast group of your choice. This makes the voice comments simpler, you can drop the "on Chromecast". "Hey Google, play some funky music" now triggers my group (called Home) and plays over all my linked Chromecast and Sonos devices in one go. Music now comes out of my Sonos (and associated group). Google assistant stuff (weather, news, searches, timers etc) still comes out of the Mini.

I think for the price I paid for my Google Home Mini, it sounds quite adequate for music which is what I mostly use it for, but of course it won't compare to much higher quality speaker systems. It's the only Chromecast device I own so I can't use it with anything else unless I buy other Chromecast devices.

Pushkar vaidya I don’t own a Sonos Connect, so unfortunately, I cannot make a dedicated video about that. But, you can use the video we’re commenting on to set it up. You just need a Chromecast Audio and a 3.5mm to RCA cable (links to both are in the description of this video). Follow the instructions I give for setting up the Play:5 in this video, and just apply them to the Connect. Be sure to set up Auto-Play in the Sonos app, too (I explain how to do this in the video as well). Good luck! You can do it!

Not that I'm aware of. You could give your Chromecast Audio a short name, like Bob. "Hey Google, play the Flying Burrito Brothers on Bob."

In settings of the google home you can set a standard device you will play audio on. youll find it under devices and than the three dots and settings.

Home> Devices > Google Home (or whatever you named your Google Home) Three dots > Settings > Default music speaker > Sonos Play 5 (or whatever you named your Sonos.

Plus, the Play 3 is definitely not the best choice. The less expensive Play 1 and Sonos One both sound better than it. There's a store in my town that has a Play 3 in the back, and a Play 1 in the front by the register. When you're in the back of the store, it doesn't sound so great, but when you walk to the front of the store the sound quality improves a lot.

Sam Mallery I agree on the Play 3. I was disappointed with my recent purchase. It's ok because I can still return for full credit. I already own a pair of Play 1's and will recommend to anyone who is interested or is having doubts on making the purchase. Especially now, BB is selling them for $139. I picked mine up last year @ $149. Thanks again for this video. Just helped me put $300 back in my pocket.

You can connect a Chromecast Audio to the RCA inputs on the Sonos Connect with this cable: amzn.to/2Ebuc6i Hopefully you already have the Sonos Connect plugged into your Crown CDi 1000. The input section of your amp needs raw wire, and unless you're an expert, you should really have a professional installation person handle that. Crown provides a wiring diagram in the manual if you want to try it yourself.

Kim schwabach I have toyed with this too, but it's so frustrating! Harmony support for multiple sonos is patchy at best. And you can't tell it to play certain playlists, can you?

No you can only tell to play pause next previus volume up and down, BUT Sonos will be Integrated next year whit google assistant, we can hope you can search local play service from tele Company exc.

You don't choose. Since the Chromecast Audio is plugged into the Play5, the sound will come out of the Play5. Sound will come out of the Play1 if it's grouped with the Play5 in the Sonos app. You can have the volume turned all the way down on the Play5 in the Sonos app, and that way the sound will only come out of the Play1.

Hi Jennifer! Try this: Launch the Sonos app on your mobile device, tap "More" in the bottom right corner, tap Settings, then tap Room Settings, then tap the name of the Sonos device your Chromecast Audio is plugged into, then tap Line-In, then tap Line-In Source Level. The default is Level 2. I changed it to Level 8 and was pleased with the results. The best level for you may be different. Enjoy!

Unfortunately, the Songs PlayBar and Sonos Play:1 both don't have analog inputs, so you can't use this work-around. The only way you could is if you added another Sonos speaker to your system that had a line input. The model I would recommend is the Sonos Five, but it's expensive. Sorry!

I'll experiment with this later this evening when I get home from work. I'm going to have my two Sonos speakers grouped and then I'll push the Mute button on my Play 5, then I'll speak to my Google Home and tell it to play stuff on my Play 5, and see if I can hear it on my Sonos One.

Okay, I just did some tests. As planned, I had my Play 5 and Sonos One set as a group in the Sonos app. I pushed the Mute button on the Play 5, then I asked my Google Home to play Stevie Wonder on my Chromecast Audio (which is plugged into my Play 5). The first time it worked. Stevie played on my Sonos One, but not on my Play 5. However, the Play 5 seemed to forget that I had pushed the Mute button, because I asked it to play something else a few minutes later, and the Play 5 had unmuted itself somehow. Then I tried keeping the two as a group in the Sonos app, but this time I turned the volume of the Play 5 all the way down in the app. This time it worked as I had hoped. So, I think this is a viable solution for you. It's a little lame because you still need to use the app to get started, but once you've turned the volume of the Play 5 all the way down in the app, you should be good to go.

Sam Mallery You’re a star. As I use my google home to access all my music and the Sonos has become obsolete due to the incompatibility issues. I have 3 play ones a play5 and a play bar. The TV sonos still in use but all other speakers are being used less and less because I speak to google so much. I hope google and sonos start to play ball

Another option to maybe consider is getting a regular (non-audio) Chromecast for your TV. Then you can tell Google Home to play music on the Chromecast plugged into your TV, and it will play on your Playbar. You can have the Playbar grouped in the Sonos app with your Play 1 speakers. The only problem is that if someone is watching TV, you won't be able to cast music to it because the Playbar will be getting TV sound. The other downside is that I haven't tried this, so I can't verify that it actually works.
