Just so you know, if you get and HL760 receiver you can connect it to the CR700 through its radio and have it mirror what the CR700 is seeing. This can be great to put in the cab with you or for when you are sighting the laser height.

That there was some SERIOUS earth moved! I have no idea what my max is in Kern Co. CA, someone told me what it was but I forgot. I won't have a driveway nearly that long, but it is a fairly steep slope (15% my guess) with a left bend half way up. We're not allowed to leave it just dug up, will require a retaining wall.

Nice video! Quick question about the y axis for the culvert install. Can you move the machines magnetic receiver up on the stick of the ex and catch the same grade of the road but at a lower point (bottom of the culvert)
@ConstructionVideos
@ConstructionVideos Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! To answer your question, yes, we do that when installing culverts. When you set either the x or y-axis, depending on which one runs parallel with your culvert, you can then set a benchmark on the centerline of your culvert and then adjust your laser receiver to whatever depth you need to clear the culvert and the required coverage on top. Example, we do a lot of 18" culverts, so we typically set our receiver (on a grade rod, or on the stick of the excavator) so that we are digging approx. 26" below grade along the culvert centerline. If the axis on the laser is set to, say, +/- 5%, then digging along that axis will give you the +/-5% no matter what depth.

Really appreciate this teaching. I was unable to understand how you use two grades on the laser and receiver to crown the road. I do see how the primary grade 4% and 17 % was established. But, I don’t think you necessarily need to use the laser to crown the drive way other than maintaining less than 17%. Guess to put it more simply, did you use the dual slope feature of the laser system? Thank you!
@ConstructionVideos
@ConstructionVideos Жыл бұрын
We did use the dual grade feature. The culvert has a minimum and maximum required coverage and was installed to follow the same grade of the road for proper drainage while maintaining an even coverage and smooth transition. Had we not used the dual grade, the upper end of the driveway would have come off level with that part of the road, but then the lower side of the driveway would have been too high or humped. We set the road grade on the laser, and then programmed in that 4% grade perpendicular to the road, which allowed us to transition off of a sloped road while maintaining the minimum grade requirements and creating a smooth transition.
@dpatru
@dpatru Жыл бұрын
Dual slope means that you can set a slope for the x axis and another slope for the y axis. In this case he set the y axis to match the road’s slope and the x axis to match the allowable approach, perpendicular to the road. He didn’t discuss crowning the road, ie making the middle of the driveway higher to shed water.

So...What are they going to do about the wall from the driveway cut? Any type of erosion control?
@ConstructionVideos
@ConstructionVideos 2 жыл бұрын
It will need some maintenance, as with any driveway in the mountains, but we cut it back quite a bit to allow for room to slough off so it should taper over time.

Hey Troy, Looking at picking up on of the gl622n kits. I was curious if there is a reason you went with the cr700 receiver vs one of the LR models that have a larger laser pickup area(Lr-20,Lr-30,Lr-50,Lr-60)? Have you been disappointed with the small receiver area, or would you still recommend? It is my understanding that the CR700 does not have a plumb indicator, do you notice there being a place for this in your operation, or is it not really necessary in your opinion? Thanks!!

99% of the time, we use the cr700 on our CAT 304 mini ex and/or on my custom dozer blade mast for our CAT 259D3. I feel it worked fine for the larger excavator for this project. Obviously, the larger detectors with plumb indicator, plumb compensation, etc would probably be even better. We'll probably invest in one of those one of these days, but for our "bread and butter" workload which seems to be residential foundations and septic systems here in the CO mountains, the CR700 has been a GREAT addition. Well worth the $$$. Probably paid for itself during the first job - not needing a ditch hand to stand there all day checking grade with a rod...

@@troyloftus4840 Troy, thanks for the response, i'll pick up the package up under your amazon link. Just curious, did you maintain your 8% slope from the main road, once you switched to the 17% grade going up the driveway, or did you flatten out? What is your recommendation on how far up a drive you go until you rotate your Y axis to a more level drive? Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving
@troyloftus4840
@troyloftus4840 2 жыл бұрын
After cutting-in the first 20' perpendicular to the road, I abandoned the 8% slope of the road. It is really personal preference after the county requirements are met. The max is 17% in our county after the first 20', and we usually put a 2-4% slope back against the hill (horizontally) as we go up the drive. It keeps the runoff against the hill which helps create/maintain a ditch. We try to get away from the 17% as soon as we can to a more manageable 10-12%. Obviously, less slope is better, but also have to balance how deep you cut, how much material you are willing to move, etc...

Hi, quick question after you set the 4% fall why did you adjust the receiver? Should you not keep it in the same place?
@troyloftus4840

Once I set the 4%, I can then adjust/set the receiver to whatever point I want to start the 4% from.

Would you recommend this laser for digging basements, culverts, concrete site prep, crawl spaces, sewer lines etc…? Or which laser setup would you suggest?

Definitely. We use it daily for all of those things. We will probably pick up an identical setup for an additional crew this season.

The laser gives a line for your grade for rise, but how does it show you run so you know you are right? I have one of these and need to dig in a drain, but haven’t got the process straight yet
@troyloftus4840
@troyloftus4840 Жыл бұрын
The laser is set to a percentage which is the relationship of the rise and run. Example: A 2% grade is 2' of rise for every 100' of run. For a drain, if you want 2%, set up the laser with either the x or y axis parallel to drain. Set that axis at 2% or -2% depending on orientation. At the starting point of your drain, set the receiver on the grade rod. Now, you should be able to check that you have the desired slope along the drain. Hope this helps

What will be done to ensure those banks don’t erode and fall in?
@ConstructionVideos

The walls were cleaned up a bit for the finished driveway. They are still pretty clean cut, but the soils out here are very hard decomposed granite, so they’re pretty solid to begin with. This was done two years ago. Coincidentally, we are actually out on that property as we speak working on the foundation for the new home build, and everything looks great! Overtime some stuff may slough off, but that’s why we made it extra wide to allow for that to happen naturally.
