Hi Everyone,
In today's video, we're going to show you the quickest and easiest way to Walnut Blast your BMW F30...From Home!
As you know, BMW used direct injection. It's great.. but... it leads to carbon build up on your intake valves, which will rob you of performance, gas mileage, and your car won't run well.
In this video, we'll take you step by step through the process. Below are all the tools you need for the job. Thanks to FCP Euro and Eastwood for supplying us with the parts used in the video!
FCP Euro Parts:
Vacuum Attachment: bit.ly/FCPN55VacuumAdapter
Blaster Attachment: bit.ly/FCPBlasterAttachment
N55 Intake Gaskets: bit.ly/FCPN55IntakeGaskets
Eastwood:
Walnuts: bit.ly/EastwoodWalnuts
Spray Kit: bit.ly/EastwoodWalnutSprayer
Amazon:
Vacuum: amzn.to/2V2c3hf

For real lol I had to do this over 3 days. Aggravation at some connectors etc, took my time and watched 5 separate videos on this to find tips for each step. Finally have the manifold off and with 165k miles, hardly any carbon.... waste of my time but good practice lol.

@@th1545 our 2016 n20 had some deposits on the valves at 80k but nothing really hardcore, you should invest in a cheap camera that's what I did. But since I was there I cleaned it. I did a 2 mil hole in the charge pipe and I found a double mushroom head grommet to plug it with silicone so in the future I'll be using spray cleaners preventively every two oil changes, I don't think I'll ever need to do the whole procedure again if I do that.

Regular maintenance, oil changes etc with a weekly redline on the tach such as entering a highway ramp and it’s been ultra reliable for 51,000 miles. Bill e46 330ci, F30 335i M Sport, F80 M3

That would be similar to port injection right? Did you use carb cleaner? Ultimately the engine would burn off the cleaner, safer to do and hopefully clean valves? I think cleaner might be ok for light coating, if it’s thick crud, might not come out with normal cleaning. Let me know how it went!

First off, thank you for all the great how-to videos on KZfaq. They are super helpful. So I got everything apart fine but I’m putting it back together and it looks like connecters 2 and 3 on the ECU (I think you called it the DME in your video at 6 min 30 sec in) are identical in shape. I didn’t take pictures and I’m trying to make sure I’m not accidentally swapping the wire harnesses that go into connectors 2 and 3. Could you help me identify which harness plugs into connector 2 on the DME and which harness plugs into connector 3 in the DME as both of those connectors seem to be identical. Thanks in advance!

The oil buildup in this n55 compared to the n54 is hardly anything to worry about. N54 engines get completely closed in under 50k. The valvetronic adjustments in the n55, allow the valves to stay relatively clean, because of the changes in air velocity when the valve is partially open. Yes you still get buildup, but I've seen n54 engines with under 30k that were being choked!

Sean Kinzer: I asked my SA about having this done on my N55 535. He said they redesigned the engine ventilation and walnut blasting is no longer needed as often (like rarely) as the N54. He didn't recommend doing it at all.
@KINZERS13GTR
@KINZERS13GTR 5 жыл бұрын
@@michaelhall9138 Yes exactly. I asked them about ventilation in the n54 when I was taking their NG engine courses, and they assured me it wasn't a problem. 😂😂 That was one area they fixed in the n55, but it's still not perfect. All direct injection engines should have a secondary injector, just for intake cleaning at specific times, and engine speeds. Except... Why make an engine so good it doesn't break, when you can make so much more $$ on the service side! In this case, it's a little like shooting yourself in the foot.

the n55 definitely gets alot less build up. I've done many walnut shell blasting on n54s and they were all terrible at like 60k or less miles. So i decided to do walnut shell blasting on my moms x5(n55) with 110k miles, it was nothing compared to the n54s. there was some build up but i probably couldve left it alone for another 2 years.

This looked cheap and not easy :D I've driven direct injection cars for 20+ years. Honestly if you use good quality fuel (Costco is my favorite!), 1/3 can of Seafoam in the fuel during oil changes, and put the car in sport mode once in a while and rev the thing, you shouldn't get much carbon buildup. I put 140K miles on a 2009 Mini Cooper S R56 and didn't have to clean the thing once :)

Putting Seafoam in your fuel doesn't change the fact that the fuel never hits the back of the valve like an indirect injected engine.

Chris: when I look up this blasting kit on Eastwood’s site, it says it’s a soda blaster. Later, in response to a users question, they say it’s not designed to work with walnuts. So I’m confused too.
