Absolutely insane! Doing Wenning warm-ups up to 110 lbs on incline press! If people do not understand, a Wenning warm-up is 25 reps! And he does at least 300 reps before he even starts his work out! That is 12 speed sets, with less than a minute break in between. Matt totally adds legitimacy to this channel. His Wenning warm-ups have changed my mind and body. Thank you for this video, we actually get to see Matt utilize his techniques in real time, instead of talking about it on his channel.

I researched Wenning warmup on KZfaq. Gave it a whirl this morning. I have evidently been doing it wrong. I feel good. No pain in left shoulder or elbow which has been constant during workout and after. I guessed at the right weights, will fine tune in the future. Your explanation of posterior chain influence on bench work was very helpful. I’ve been told “keep your shoulder blades tight before, now I understand why. Paid particular attention to it this morning. The difference is incredible. Thank you.

So, on max upper body days, you warm up chest, lats, and triceps before maxing out on bench. Do you ever do the same and max out on a pulling movement instead? Or are pulls all done during the accessory movements (I.e. 5 rep sets)?

So could you do this circuit before every single workout? What if you did more of a bodybuilding routine and hit upper body multiple times a week. Would it be realistic to do these movements three times a week? Would there be a concern of overuse in terms of working back, tris and chest that many times. I understand it’s a warm up but there is still fatigue involved here.
@rmcshakes9934

Zone21 If you add slight variations to the exercises you use to warm up you can mitigate a lot of overuse issues, especially if you’re rotating your main lifts and cycling different loading parameters as well.

So… is the idea that you increase the weight on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th sets of each each exercise, aiming to fail or close to failure at around 25 reps on your 4th set? The first set could be roughly half the weight of the fourth set ?

@ryanturner8577
@ryanturner8577 5 жыл бұрын
Yea I do lat pulldowns, swiss ball hamstring curls, and suitcase carries for deadlifts. Legs I do swiss ball hamstring curls or back extensions, goblet squats with a dumbbell, and stir the pot. Just pick 3 varying exercises attacking weaknesses or underused muscles, plus maybe a mechanically similar movement. I target lats for my back, hamstrings because I am quad dominant and they are a weakness, and I always try to hit my abdominals and obliques since my abs are underactive compared to my lower back by the end of the day.

@@helmutkrusemann9194 No problem. So now I'm doing 60lbs for the goblet squats. I hold it at my chest. but conditioning plays a role. It takes time to build up haha. So I'll do my swiss ball hamstring curls first, then right into the goblet squats, then back to the swiss ball for stir the pots (usually 12 one way and 12 the other). This set up has been working great. Glute focused back raises are great as well in place of hamstring curls.

@@nailbomb3 if you actually look into Matt's stuff he preaches doing something different enough to avoid getting overuse injuries and too much adaptation in the body but specific enough it has carry over and does not violate rule of specificity. So when he benches every week he just changes small things like grip angles type of resistance and so on but keeps it as close to a bench press to stay specific.

Not trying to know it all but why are you guys using such a fast tempo on warm ups?
@ourclarioncall
@ourclarioncall Жыл бұрын
He explains how he developed his “wenning warmups “ in a few of his own videos and what the purpose’s are. One reason is many have a weak bench or a bench that has a high chance of getting injured because of dominant shoulders , weak lats and weak triceps , or lats and triceps that are not working well as a team in the compound movement. A 100 reps wakes up and warms up the lats and triceps to prime then for better contribution and participation in the bench press .

Surely this warm up is just fatiguing you before hitting bench. You won’t be able to bench as heavy which over the long term means less progress. Surely it’s far better to hit bench as heavy as possible after a normal warm up without fatiguing yourself. Then work on conditioning and high volume later on.

Brandon Baldwin notice what Matt said about individuation of this protocol It takes time to adapt to it, so don’t start with 110s for max reps, start with 40s for sets of 15-20 and build it. Listen to a heap more of Wennings stuff and you’ll understand where he’s coming from with it and how to apply it to you.
