Hello my name is David and I show you how to waterstart.
The water start is the first step on your journey to wingfoiling once you hit the water. There are a few ways to do it, but this method is the best for beginners.
Start by pulling yourself on the board so that you are kneeling on the deck of the board. Pull the wing in by the leash and grab the leading edge handle with your upwing arm. Using both hands, shift the wing so that your front arm is now holding the strut handle closest to the leading edge. Grab the back handle with your back arm and feel for the wind. Using the pressure from the
wing to stabilize you as you step up on your front foot and slip it into the strap. Repeat with your back foot and angle the board slightly downwind to generate speed and lightly pump the board to help the foil generate lift. Once the foil has enough speed to fly, you will need to adjust the balance between front and back foot pressure to keep the board level. And adjust your shoulders and hips to keep you going in the direction you wish to travel. You will also need to vary how much pull you put on the back hand to regulate how much power the wing is delivering.
In a situation where the wind is lighter, you may need to pump the wing and the board in order to generate the required speed. This is done by repeatedly pulling the wing in and out from your body until you can achieve a full plane.
It is a good idea to also practice this method with your opposite foot in front in preparation for learning to gybe.
The process will be difficult at the start, but with some practice you will achieve full wing and foil control.
