Күн бұрынIn today's video, let's discuss how to create story arcs in a manga or comic. Arcs are very helpful in breaking up a long story into smaller parts, to make it easier to read. Arcs are like smaller stories within the main story, and can help with character development or exploration. In this video, we look at two main techniques for writing story structures, the first is a more English style of story structure, and the second is the authentic Kishotenketsu style which is more commonly used in Japanese, Chinese and Korean narrative styles. Through these methods, you can learn to craft an amazing story arc, and present it through your manga or comic.

Very interestingly put. The way you explain it, to my way of thinking at least, story arcs could also be used to WRITE a longer story, not just break a longer story up. Basically, you would be using the arcs as building blocks which would fit together to form the longer, combined narrative. If that makes any sense. In any case, great video. You've once again given me something to think about. 👏👏👏👏

Yes, I actually use this exact same structure when I write longer stories also! I also use it per chapter and per arc. I feel like it is the easiest way for me to break down the process and focus on my ideas. Thank you for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. 😊

Hey Midnight, thanks for doing my video Idea, I'm wondering if you can help me with a chapters question. How do I know when a new chapter ends and starts especially if the whole book is that topic? I see some books with like 4 chapters and some with 22 chapters for example

Most manga have around 9-12 chapters per volume. These chapters are like smaller stories within the main story, and they can be helpful in breaking down the plot into easy to understand parts. It might help to write each chapter as though it is a smaller story. Most chapters end in one of these ways: -It feels like the scene has reached a conclusion. -There is a plot twist or cliffhanger. Then the next chapter will usually open in a new scene, or provide more context for the cliffhanger or plot twist. I think the most helpful way to use chapters is to break it down for you as the author, and make it easier for you to write. I used to see my manga as one big story, and that would feel very overwhelming to me. But once I broke it down into chapters, it felt much more achievable!

I think it is always good to challenge yourself, even with things that you struggle with! It's good to include characters facing to the side or other directions or order to have variety with your art. 😊
