Ped and Baz are joined by ex Everton defender Derek Mountfield to remember Everton Legend Howard Kendall, who sadly passed away at the weekend aged 69.
Howard not only helped Everton to silverware as a player when he was part of the Holy Trinity midfield with Alan Ball and Colin Harvey, winning the League title in 1970. But also off it, becoming Everton's most successful manager, winning two League Championship titles in 1985 and 1987, an FA Cup 1984 and a European Cup Winners Cup 1985 in his first spell as manager. Kendall went onto manage Everton on three separate occasions.
Derek Mountfield who played under Howard Kendall in both of Kendall's title winning sides and shares some of his memories with Baz and Ped and recalls what it was like as an Evertonian to go from the Gwlady's Street End to playing for his boyhood club.

Derek was a great footballer, I was at the FA cup semi final in 1984 at Highbury and they had a coca cola sponsored ball juggling competition before the game . i remember seeing derek doing as many tricks if not not more than any of the kids in the competition.

I'm a kopite from Bermuda and I have such respect for Howard Kendall not just his success but what he went through to get it. Laying 18th in December 1983 crowds down and on his back. I watched his reaction on the bench to losing to Liverpool 5-0 the previous year and he acted with class and composure along side CH.uike the managers today who want to fight every official if they don't get 3 points

Cheers for bringing me this interview with Degsy lads. I Enjoyed it. I'm not ashamed to say I shed a tear or two Saturday morning. That 80's period can bring me to tears of joy and now, i realise, tears of sadness too. Some of the best days of my life to which I will be eternally grateful to Howard for. RIP gaffer.

Ped & Baz, brilliant again lads ,great work & also to Degsy who would be worth a fortune these days with them goals from centre back!I was choked on Saturday morning when I heard the news,I was hoping it was a nasty rumour again but it was confirmed about 5 minutes later! It says alot about how great he was ,when the tributes from across the park, especially from Phil Thompson on Saturday morning,it had me in bits!! Howard gave me most of my best footballing memories that I'm forever telling my kids about! RIP Howard.

good tribute. Did meet Derek in Arrowe Park hospital few years ago said thanks for the memories. Should have asked if he thought the current team has any similarities to the team he was in maybe about 1983 ish. Ok bad defeat against United i think there was a reason everyone was so flat.

Subscribed last week. I am now a toffee tv addict. great show lads. Ive been a fan of EFC. since 7 years old. Went to West ham 85 first game. My dad who's a cockney supported them. Was a member of ESCLA. EVRTON SUPPORTERS CLUB LONDON AREA. I'm not sure too many out side the club has prob heard of Dereck Mountfield but hes prob the most underated player of the mid 80's. solid as a rock, BIG PART of THAT team [ the greatest ever ;-] ] . They shud nickname him Quentin Tarrentino haha. EVERTON FOR EVER.

When Derek mentioned how lifted Howard looked after the FA Cup win in 1984 he may have laid to rest the occasions he was on the losing side in the FA Cup semi finals and finals he played in. With Preston in 1964, for the blues in the Final in1968 to WBA after defeating the outstanding Leeds team in the semi final. Then the awful display in the 1969 FA Cup final losing to a last minute goal to Man City. In February 1969 I saw Everton defeat Wolves 4-0 under floodlights after which the Wolves Chairman, John Ireland, who was also Chair of the FA rated that Everton team as the finest since the post-war. Then In 1971 Howard was part of the side that lost 2-1 to Liverpool in the FA Cup semi final, and this game I was at, was always described as a sickening defeat the ended the 1967-71 great team. Howard was uniquely qualified and young enough to have managed the England team after Bobby Robson if he hadn't set his career back by moving the lowly Athletico Bilbao.

Such a shame that great Everton side of 85 never had a chance to have a crack at Europe. We’ll never know how they would’ve fared.
