Hey, W2B, I finally chose my next laptop and I think it might be a model you would be interested in. It's the maxed-out 2021 refresh of the Lenovo Ideapad 5i. It packs the newest i7-1165G7, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and an Nvidia MX450 GDDR6 into a 14" device. It seems a great choice to me, so I would love to hear your opinion (maybe even a review? jk jk.... unless). The exact model is Ideapad 5 14ITL05!

I'm contemplating buying the philips 272E1GAEZ monitor.. now it also has a 24 inch variant.. on a best-monitor list site the 24 incher took 35th place and the 27incher took 40th place.. probably due to the higher price too. But the ppi is 83 on the 27incher while 92 on the 24incher. Will the picture quality be worse on the 27incher? I mean it's the same monitor..just larger. Either way on the best-monitor list the 24 incher got the grade b- for picture quality while the 27 incher got the grad c.. I don't get why. Its the exact same monitor just bigger. I guess 27 inch should mean better resolution (1440p) but it's clearly stated that the resolution on both variants is 1080p.

Remember that the lpddr4x ram introduces extra latency compared to ddr4. The trade-off depends on the workload

I had yoga slim 7 4700u, 16 gb ram and it had terrible ghosting display and thermal issues. It was super loud under load. I switched it for cheaper thinkpad e14 4500u and i am happy. Its best laptop in its class for me. E14 has even better screen than my elitebook 445 g7.

Ah I would love to be able to just pick one of these but I want a dedicated GPU. Not a very powerful one but a MX450 at least... So I'm waiting for either the Yoga Slim 7 Pro, Ideapad 5 Pro or the Gen 2 Thinkbooks... I hope you can review any of these when they come out. It seems like people don't really care for the MX450 laptops but I have a weird preference hahah

It is only the slim 7i that has the speaker grills on the front, the slim 7 has them on the bottom like the matebook 14

The screen isn't bad at all on the Yoga Slim 7 but compared to the Matebook 14, there's a clear winner QHD beats FHD.

My choice is clearly the Slim 7, because that's the one I bought last year... heheh... The Matebook is also an excellent choice, though... so the real winners here are the consumers, who got two vendors trying to outdo one another resulting in laptops with excellent specs and performance at a (relatively) affordable price. Nice video!

14 '' Laptop only 2-in-1, a simple decision Lenovo I believe that such a small laptop without this function is a waste of money

I have been using the matebook for a week now after buying the r5 4600h 8gb ram version with the 1440p non touch display. A few of my observations: 1) The display is absolutely gorgeous, and although games don't really support a 3:2 aspect ratio I don't really use the letterbox settings; I set the games to "fill" the screen cause I'm a casual gamer and don't really care about the slight cropping. 2) Build quality is good 3) Keyboard is really nice, trackpad is decent 4) Webcam is pretty awful, terrible angle and quality. 5) Port selection is good, and 65W USB charging is fast as well 6) The laptop runs pretty hot and loud when playing minecraft with unlocked framerate, but locking the framerate to 60 (on fancy settings) keeps the noise and heat down a bit. Playing with render distance 21 is perfectly fine, which surprised me cause it only has 8gb ram (albeit in dual channel). Overall a smooth experience, and the display doesn't feel too much slower than my 144hz monitor. 7) Switching the laptop to performance mode from balanced mode causes some vibrations as the fan spins up inaudibly 8) Cinebench R20 performed really well, I saw thermal throttling almost instantly as all 6 cores hit 4.0 ghz at 99C but frequencies stabilised at around 3.4-3.5 GHZ all core at full fan speed. Temps were still high though at 99C. It scored a healthy score of 2900, which if memory serves beats my desktop r5 1600 by 500 points Single core score was 440, again beating the desktop r5 1600 by 40 pnts or so. 9) The fingerprint sensor works well, but is on the small size so you have to align your finger just right to get a good read. 10) The 265gb ssd is partitioned into two drives, C: and D: for whatever reason. This was a bit of an annoyance because, assuming there was just one C: Drive, I copied my data over to this laptop, only to learn that the C: drive was completely filled by it. I was confused at first but saw that there was a D: drive so I copied my data over to that one to keep the C: drive empty.
