This is exactly what I am doing, when I first learned about the concept of POD my common sense kicked in and decided to use different POD providers that are not integrated with Etsy and manually do the thing :). Etsy terminated my shop a few weeks ago and I started making my own website, so will be doing this hybrid thing there too, even if Etsy doesn't reinstate my account.

This is exactly how I setup my shop and have run it for years. I’ve showed multiple people my process and they didn’t want to do it because you have to copy and paste the orders 😅

Honestly Daniel it is a brilliant model, and hardly anyone is doing it, I work with clients doing 100-200k a year using this method.

I have been doing this since forever for the items I don’t make myself. I just go directly to the manufacturing company instead of using a middleman like printify. For example one company I work with specializes in canvases. that’s all they do and they do it well, I prefer it that way.

Could you make a video showing how to manage sales with non-integrated POD suppliers ? I love Contrado (I discovered few days ago), but how to do with personalization, shipping internationally, ... all things that "classic" POD providers manage on their own ?

Completely get the concept - what I struggle to grasp is pricing. When competitive pricing is incredibly important - how does one make this model work? I appreciate Contrado is an example of the possibilities, but it all comes down to price at the end of the day? Also, how does one do mock ups on Etsy or own website if using different companies?

Hi Karan, I would like to point out it is not about price, it is about value perception, everyone knows an $18 t shirt on Etsy is POD, but what about a genuine ceramic plate with unique design on? What does everyone know about that? Not a lot, I can tell you. Go beyond price, look at value perception.

Karen, I don't know what you mean by how you do mockups. I don't use the print provider mockups. I buy other ones.

I’ve been thinking along these lines. You’ve called it hybrid POD but how is it any different to standard dropshipping?

You have a relationship with your supplier, and you are sending YOUR designs to them to fulfil, it is completely different. Also standard dropshipping is not allowed on Etsy unless it is supplies.

I use my own mock ups, as i want my own branding. Im personalising customising alot of products to. Prices are high with the pod companies. Om sure ive checked out contrado before and im not sure i can mske the numbers work.

There are hundreds of companies like this out there, if Contrado doesn't work for you, look for another. Don't fixate on price, look at the products and understand value perception based on the uniqueness of your design, and the product it is placed on.

Take a look at the site I mentioned in the video, loads on there, including plenty of stuff you can't get on sites like Printful and Printify.

HPOD allows you to choose from thousands of potential suppliers, with products that are less competitive.

How does this work when Etsy only allows mockups from the POD company? If you don't know which one you are going to use, how do you get the mockups?

The company has them in it's site. If you contact a company that does not have mockups build a relationship with them and see if they will take photos for you, most companies that do POD have mockups.

I have to tell you, there is a platter, on Etsy, a plastic platter, with the worst possible design I have ever seen. It is a grill, that you cook on, that looks like it is straight from Canva, and around the grill are kids names. It is a Father’s Day gift, and they sell it for like, I think it was $40, and they’ve sold thousands of these plastic platters, from what looks like Printify. I was blown away. Now, they’ve probably been selling them for years, but I couldn’t imagine buying a plastic platter for $40, no matter how much you can personalize it. I was trying to teach POD to my daughter, and she saw that platter and laughed at how bad the design is, yet thousands of people have bought that platter. The store has other platters as well, and they’re equally as bad, as far as the design, but they have sold. Thanks Nick, I have thought about this, but I guess I didn’t know how to do it. I will learn how to do it, though.

Yes, all sorts of crazy things sell don't they! HPOD is basically turning any company that sells things, and will fulfil designs for you, into your production partner.

Yes, it may not suit your niche, but there are thousands of businesses out there that you can seek out that could be a Hybrid Print On Demand partner for you.

So, for example, you would place an order on contrado using your own business credit card/billing info. and just put the customer’s shipping name/address? Then you get make your money back once Etsy releases your funds, correct? You just wouldn’t have access to their mockups unless you contracted with them to use those. You would have to order samples of each item you offer from them and make your own mockups. Hope I’m understanding correctly.

Almost, they have mockups for you to put designs on, so you dont have to buy the item.

Everything is explained in the video, HPOD means you access thousands of new products that none of the regular POD suppliers are providing.

I’ll have to research what a hybrid pod is? Sorry but from this video I have no idea what you mean. Did you mean we find our own blank products and then have a company like Printify print them for us? I’m confused.

Hi Lynda, OK so Hybrid POD means you submit your design onto the HPOD companies website, and they ship the product to your customer, rather than the sale being submitted from your Etsy store. It opens up a whole world of possibilities to work with companies who will fulfil manual print on demand orders for you (HPOD), with products that most other sellers doing traditional POD will not be selling. The main difference is you get access to thousands of new product ideas, but instead of Etsy submitting the order to someone like printful and printify (which everyone uses), you manually submit the order on a different company website, who will take manual orders, like the site I mentioned.

I didn't find mockups of people wearing the products in contrado, does they have and I missed it or they just don't have? If they don't have can you please recommend another website like that where they have mockups🙏

They only have limited mockups unfortunately. There are ways around this, primarily photoshop, but this has a skill level attached to it.

1 Dropshipping on Etsy is not allowed (unless it is supplies, or you designed/created the product) 2 HPOD allows you to send designs to any company that can provide the product fulfilment, along with mockups. 3 This now means you get to sell products that other Etsy sellers don't sell, and you can take advantage of that.

It allows you to offer thousands more products not available on traditional POD sites like Printful, I am calling it HPOD because it is a hybrid print on demand service. It has huge potential because it allows you to compete with products that most other POD sellers won't have.

Hi, no. Dropshipping is just selling other people's products, which you cannot do on Etsy, unless it is supplies. This is different because you are sending your designs to your HPOD partner to then fulfil your order to the customer. It opens up a whole world of products that most generic Etsy POD sellers are not selling.
