In this episode I talk a bit about some of the reasons I love hydroponics and also take a look at my hydroponic peas as well as one of my cabbage experiments. One thing I love about hydroponics that I for got to mention is that then I have a pest problem it is easy to move the plant away from others and also I can pull the plant right out of its planter, take care of the problem and return it all without harming it. Please check out the links below to check out my shop, join my facebook hydroponic group and more. It helps support the channel and I appreciate it. Thanks everyone.

Peas can grow up to 6F or more, you definitely need to add more room

Thank you, I have started growing peas, one variety Sugar pods and the other variety Batchelor Bigga peas, which I got from my local supermarket. I used clay pebbles as a medium and the peas are doing very well, they have formed shoots, they have fresh water at the roots, plus I'm rinsing the seeds daily. Also I am growing Chia seeds on clay pebbles and I'm waiting to see they will do. Very inspired about using clay pebbles.

Hi Valerie. Your welcome. That's great that you are enjoying growing on the clay pebbles. It is my favorite way to get many things started. I also love it when I can find seeds in the grocery store like that. I can't find whole peas in the supermarkets in my area. Hope they do well for you. I think mine will flower soon. Happy growing!

Looking good mate, it's TRUE what you saying about hydroponic, it speeds the process up for the plant to produce fruit quickly instead doing it in soil, am doing a project in the uk hydroponic DWC method iv already harvest my first batch of cucumbers, waiting for the next batch now, also my melons are coming into size now hopefully should be ready end of july👍

Hey Dave! I was wondering how often do you have to change the water in the grow pipe do you ever have to trim the roots?
@CharestStudios
@CharestStudios 3 жыл бұрын
I don't change the solution or trim the roots. I just top off and keep going. It has been working well. I even had kale in the pipe for over a year before I let it go to seed.

Love the green pipe. How is this setup? Is it Kratky method or does it have an airstone?

When plants grow in the pipe outside of the greenhouse, are the half inch plant holes small enough such that you don’t have to worry about rain filling up the pipe which could drown the roots or dilute the nutrient solution?
@CharestStudios
@CharestStudios 3 жыл бұрын
I would say yes, for the most part. if the plants were small and a lot of rain was coming I would probably move the pipe or fashion some kind of shelter from the rain for it. As the plants get bigger the leaf cover plus the stem increasing in size both help to minimize water infiltration..

I am interested in growing peas for a school project, I am using clay balls and lava rocks as a medium for the peas to grow on. I am using rockwool to start the peas off and then transplanting the germinated peas to my hydroponic setup. I understand that it is best to direct sow peas as they don't like transplant, however I do not have that option... Anyways, I am interested to learn how long those peas grew, I've looked it up and it says they grow about 4 - 6 feet, but I'm assuming that's if they are grown outdoors. Seeing in your video they look to be about 1.5 - 2 feet long, how tall did yours end up growing when you harvested them? The reason I am asking is because I am building a trellis support system.

Hi Gavin. I was growing a very low growing variety. I did get peas from it and I don't remember the grow time but it I remember it was about the same amount of time called for on the package. Sometimes hydroponics is quicker. Check the package or seed source for how long to maturity. I would say give them as much trellis as you can and you can trim the plants if needed. Trimming may cause you to loose some of the potential harvest but may be worth it especially if you have to move the set up around. I liked being able to move mine around but it did outgrow the trellis even with the small variety of peas I grew. Hope that helps and good luck with the project!

Hi. I really like your pipe hydroponics. Can you tell me how much nutrient solution you use in the pipe? With a 2 inch net pot and allowing for oxygen roots how deep will the solution be in the pipe? Thanks
@CharestStudios
@CharestStudios 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bruce. I use about 5 quarts in mine which is about 30 inches long. I fill them up to about an inch from the top and top off to that level as well and it works well.

Please I need to know what fertilizer you are using. My French beans beans always suffer with AeroGarden’s fertilizer. They are missing something. When I planted the French green beans with a bush green bean they did better, but still the leaves got a mosaic rusty look. They were not diseased. It was the fertilizer for sure. Can you tell me what fertilizer you are using please?

I used Masterblend on the green beans. It is a three part mix. I use two teaspoons of each Masterblend, epson salt and calcium nitrate per 5 gallons. Hope that helps! Happy growing!

@@samsmythe2207 Yes, Masterblend works great for all fruiting plants. If you are growing greens or herbs I recommend Maxi Gro as it is cheaper and easier and works great for greens and herbs. You can however use Masterblend for everything if you want to.

Ha, yes! Free the roots! It's working well. Of course I love it anytime I can save time or money so not having to worry about a net cups or clay pebbles is great with me. I can't see any downside yet but we will see how they do . Hoping the ground hog doesn't get into the greenhouse this year. They love cabbage.
