it´s crazy how good they made the sound. I don't understand why Ferrari and Lamborghini can't do the same thing to combine the silent electric car with sports car sound.

Other manufacturers don't have good battery technology. Ioniq5N's unique creativity is in its battery technology that immediately absorbs much of regenerative energy essential for -0.6G of regenerative braking power. This is essential to emulate DCT without enegy loss and to implement a high performance brake system at low price.

Yes, order the I5N instead of the Macan. Great car with the best of two worlds. But maybe make your order not in baby blue but red, white or the dark gray.

I’d definitely go for the Perfomance Blue or the Soultronic Orange. Seems like a shame to have it in an ordinary color like black or white that is already available in the regular I5. I wouldn’t want it to get the kind of attention the cybertruck gets, but I wouldn’t want it to just blend in either.

This car offers so many features. It's different from a car that's finished at the factory and doesn't need to be touched any more once you start it. This is a car that needs to be optimized to suit you. If you are someone who finds such a process difficult or inconvenient, do not choose it. But I don't think any EV offers as many settings, great performance, and efficient features as this car at this price.

With so many good infotainment setups in 2024, there is no excuse for a messy, non intuitive and confusing system. The fault is never with the user when it is the engineers job to make it all work smoothly. No excuse.

I hope they change the piano black interior of the GV60 Magma to something else. The Magma is what I’m excited about too. I’ve currently got a 2022 GV60 RWD Premium. I’m hoping they go with a 84kWh or more battery so the WLTP is atleast 300 miles.

@@onehorsepower HI5N daily and PGT only for good weather Sundays or alpine holidays. 5N’s advantage: huge interior space, downside: massive weight. Anchoring point is very early.

A 'gas' performance car is nothing like a massive, bloated, heavy, ugly, battery car. The only 'similar' 'gas' cars are huge, heavy bloated, SUV's.

Assuming that another car manufacturer sells EV cars with the same performance, I bet the price will be three to four times as expensive as I5N. And I5N is very cool in my opinion. The world is changing fast. Dude You can get rid of your bias and experience this new technology yourself 😉

@@69MadnezZ Why was my comment deleted ? 1) I stated I worked for Hyundai for 4 years, I know exactly where they are in the world in comparison to other EV's. 2) Performance as in 0-60 and other simplistic terms, does not automatically make a car 'sporty', there are so many other factors which go towards the difference between a bloated, heavy, silent EV, and a true sporty car. 3) Hyundai makes brilliant vehicles, and some very fast EV's, but they are not the same thing as a sports car. The Ioniq5 looks horrible in my opinion, as a sports car should be a sleek, great handling, great sounding, vehicle with chassis dynamics tailored/designed for fast road or track driving. 4) You can get rid of your trolling and realise I have probably 'experienced' 10 times more fast EV's (especially Hyundai's), and 100 times more performance cars than you ever will son.

For me the best thing about the simulated sound and shifting would be the option to turn them off. Obviously this car wasn’t built with me in mind. I am very happy with the quiet performance of the Ioniq 5 but if it can convince someone to go electric I am all for it.

THANK you Kris. I drive the IONIQ 5 now, but it has not the stiffness in the rear that I was used to i my former BMW M.s. BUT, the most 90% of my drivning is on normal Norwegian roads - so, I have to consider the range for lounger tri😊ps.

Don’t buy a 5N for range/efficiency. You’ll be disappointed. But if you’re an enthusiast who loves spirited driving and just plain unabated FUN with features of the best ICE performance cars, then you’ll be very happy.

Nice review! Regarding the custom N modes: The left N button default behaviour is turning on the pre-set N mode. To have it switching between the 2 custom modes, you have to dive into the menus, and somewhere you will find "buttons", and set it to that. Lots of stuff is very hidden behind layers of menus, the car should really come with maybe a separate N manual or something.

You mention the N menu is "just bad". I would argue there is just so much to set up that is just requires some study. Custom modes are programmable, just need to know how it works. Just a case of PICNIC - Problem In Chair, Not In Computer ;-)

Me and most other journalists... with a mechanical degree, 5 years in the car business, 5 years in tech and 8 years under my belt of testing cars I don't think blaming the user is the correct approach. The 6 months I've spoked to many UI and UX engineers at many different companies at car launches, and there is no excuse to bad UI in 2024. Many other brands have much better, more intuitive and easier to use infotainment systems. Huyndai/Kia's is simply bad, and with an even worse N-menu on top off it all. Porsche it a good example of being able to setup many different settings, and it all being easy and intuitive to use. Look at GT3 RS for example.

@@KrisRifa didn’t mean to upset you :-) I’ve had the car for a few hours and playing around with the N menu I was able to program the Custom buttons. I was just replying that for me it wasn’t so horrible. Probably it could be better though, fair enough.

Just one question for you. Are you still driving it in guest mode or did you create a user profile? Got mine last week and the N settings work fine here.

Porsche needs to stop using the ridiculous Turbo designation with their EVs.

why? All designations are at the end of the day branding. Tell 1967 Mercedes to stop using 280SE to mean anything other than S-Class, or 1994 BMW to stop calling the BMW 740i a 740i when is has a 4,4L V8. I could go on for ever. They are all branding and trims.

Can we quantify how bad the infotainment system is? I already drive a '22 Ioniq5 LR Premium and the infotainment system is the big let down on this car. It has all the colors and animations and features and the HUD is really good, but the infotainment is so painfully slow and non intuitive that I try to not use is. I'd say its worse than a '15 Leaf in responsiveness and usability. Has nothing improved with the '25? @Kris Rifa?

I’m with you Patrick. It’s not until you live with it that you appreciate how bloody annoying it is. I believe there should be a max decibel limit on all road vehicles (inc motorbikes) to end the needless noise and back firing exhaust systems.

Definitely get this one. Looks great, it's fast, has the crazy dual personality... who cares it's fake? I sometimes play old-school Mario on my iPhone, even though I know it's emulated, but it's still good fun! 30 years from now, when everything is electric and dull, our kids might look at Ioniq 5N like we look at legends like Audi S1 Quattro or Lancia Delta Integrale.

I'm just gonna put it out there... EV6 GT has same shortened steering, beefed up suspension and beefed up battery cooling. I get that Ioniq 5N gets a lot of hype especially because it is track oriented but journalists like you Kris should actually do research before throwing statements like these.

Do you have a source for you claim? And even if they have the same components it's all in the tuning. Many cars share components, but are vastly different to drive. This car was developed by the N-devision for several more years compared to the EV6 GT. Further more, KIA have nothing like Huyndai's N-division. Steering feel is the big difference between these cars. and IMO what spoils the driving experience in the EV6 GT.

Looks like you are just pulling things out of your arse matey. Quick Google search reveals that 5N and EV6 GT have different steering ratios, 12:54:1 vs 12:56:1. So they don't use the same components. Furthermore this is what Hyundai say about the steering in the 5N: "The steering column has been strengthened and an IONIQ 5 N-specific steering rack with a higher steering gear ratio was added to enhance steering response and feedback" Not only is the hardware different, N-devision spent years developing the 5N. Other changes that the EV6 GT doesn't are: "Body and chassis reinforcements, as well as 42 additional welding and 2.1 metres of additional structural adhesives, have been added to further improve body and suspension mount rigidity. For lateral rigidity, the motor and battery mounting have been reinforced, and front and rear subframes have been enhanced" www.hyundai.news/eu/models/performance/ioniq-5-n/press-kit/press-information.html

This car is a terrible electric car. And EV should not make a sound. 2. The 12 V battery is so faulty on these cars - just check the forums everywhere..It so bad that Hyundai only have 24 months guarantee on the 12 V battery..The depreciation of this car will be terrible...

I checked the used market and I realized, that a regular 3 years old Hyundai 5 holds the value better than my 3 years old BMW I’ve had with comparable mileage.
