I cut a Samsung Galaxy Right in half to see what's inside and take a closer look at the camera, it was amazing to see all of the tiny individual lens elements and components and how they are made, the parts are so small its pretty mind-blowing.
I'm thinking of making a warped perception episode on how cellphones work, tell me what you think!
P.S I know this has been done before but I also wanted to test my new rigs for 4K Ultra Macro which worked and looked amazing!

@@WarpedPerception yeah, i remember those older phones had removable batteries. The cool thing about that was that you could carry extra batteries with you, so if your battery died, instead of recharging, you just put another charged battery in it, and then use that, and charge the other one later. That's good for when you're on the go and dont have access to a charger!!!

@@WarpedPerception Thanks for the reply. I'd like to add that the macro slide turned out so perfectly detailed and had me leaning in close to look at the neat details of the camera, battery, circuit boards and other neat things like that battery contact spring that somehow remained intact. So much awesome detail absolutely popped out of that slider shot. I feel like all the electronics nerds here would love to see things like dpss lasers and magnetrons sliced in that kind of detail. The thing on the last lens is just the focus driver. For image stabilization, normally the entire camera is stabilized/moved. The technology is similar to the actuators on the laser on a CD player, only the feedback comes from a MEMS gyroscope instead of the laser phase interferometry/focus. The thing that looks like the vibrator could be the microwave antenna cable. It's a thin shielded cable. Routers have them, too. I'm not amazed about how they cram stuff inside there, I'm amazed how high can they set the prices for so few materials xD And then fill it with bad updates so you need to buy the next one. Ps: don't try with a new phone, the old IR fingerprint reader was interesting. Today they use capacitive readers. It's just a conductive sheet of metal. But you could have cut this one in more slices!! :-D I would like to see that! No, really: phone designs are getting simpler. You may get the processor and most components on one chip and then another chip for the sensors, another for the radios, one more for memory and storage, and that's it. You've been lucky the battery was "dried" up before cutting it xD
@WarpedPerception
@WarpedPerception 3 жыл бұрын
You have great points, definitely a different perspective, I mean I guess you can look at it that way too like not very many components. I guess what made me think there's a lot of parts is just so many lens elements and so many battery layers. As for slicing in a more pieces that would have totally been cool..but like I mentioned I didn't know that I was going to even use this video I was just doing it as a test. However I would still cut a new phone if someone sent it to me..lol.

Would be great to see you do some lapping for things like this. Pretty incredible how cheap you can buy or build a slow/variable speed wet lapping machine. Honestly it’s just as satisfying and easy to do it by hand. If you had lapped those surfaces after cutting… I can’t imagine how beautiful that would’ve looked! Definitely possible some of the pieces may have fallen out or been wrecked… But you could always stabilize everything with epoxy or super glue....and once hardened… lap everything flush until it is flat and polished. Maybe something like 120, 320, 600, 1200 grits, (all wet sanding of course) and then go to a buffing compound on a piece of mdf or something hard and stable like that… just porous enough to hold the lapping/polishing paste. But hard enough so it doesn’t distort or curve up around the edges or small cavities. Even a piece of plain white computer paper on a piece of glass would work to do the final lapping and polishing with paste. Off brand Diamond lapping paste is extremely cheap from China… You can get into submicron sizes. The finest grit I use in my shop is 0.25 micron. I know it’s something around 60,000 grit, which is pretty accurate because I’ve compared it with a known high end brand name Abrasive under The microscope. So that cheap diamond paste is a godsend! And pretty good stuff for the money. Sorry to ramble on… My point is ....you could get incredible cross-section shots with a wet diamond lapping setup. Probably well under $100 And if you haven’t seen them… Google the microscope cutaway/cross-section photographs of cut/lapped electronic components. It will blow your mind. The guy who did all of those is a real artist!

I'd argue that lithium likes oxygen a whole lot. Anyhow, on the one hand, this was such a clean cut that all of the anodes and cathodes stayed cleanly apart. On the other hand, li-ion batteries tend to just combust when exposed to air. I expected fire, but maybe the battery was already depleted and ended up water quenched when it wanted to get hot. Waterjetchannel recently cut apart a well charged high power flashlight without incident and that defied expectations as well.
