Ok, so a lot of what you see here on my channel is the product of a lot of hard work to bring it all together, but what you've seen so far when you see me fishing the islands is the by product of what I'm actually chasing.. and this is it!
For quite a while now, behind the scenes I've tried to film one of these tanks on the jig to showcase to you guys on KZfaq how awesome these fish are, and I finally got it done, not just fingermark but also some of the other the tasty treats the ocean has to offer locally! All done in a 4.2m tinny.
I went out for a session with my good mate Matt and we have a good crack at filling the esky. This episode has a heap of tips on slow pitch jigging in FNQ packed in, from setting up your drift to fighting fish on a slow pitch jig rod.
Grab a beer, kick back and enjoy
Peace

Always pays to have a few nicer jigs as well as some cheaper ones. I always use my best jig first and can work out from there whether the fish are going for just anything, or a more refined technique..

Love your vids Mick! How do you get even line lay on your reel with the spiral wrap guides? I have a similar set up and my line always bunches on the left of the spool if I don’t guide it back on with my fingers. Cheers mate.
@Micksgonefishing
@Micksgonefishing 2 жыл бұрын
I just monitor it and adjust as needed, it’s not the spiral wrap that does it, it can be a number of things.. it’ll still happen on a traditional straight guided rod.

Hahaha nah Matt knows how to fish, and he got a good trout but I think it’s the lighter rod which gets the more enticing jig action and that was probably the difference…

Good informative video man. Question about the OL element rods, do they have a more rigged tip or has it got some bend in it? being a slow pitch rod, i would say it has more of a rigged action. Possibly the origin has more of a bend action? Cheers
@Micksgonefishing
@Micksgonefishing 2 жыл бұрын
Depends a lot on the model and the jig weight used. I like the pe3 slow element personally as I can jig down to 60g, it’s not the traditional style of jigging as I do have to work the rod to load it up to flick the jig but you get the same result. For the fish we have up here I wouldn’t recommend anything lighter as the lighter rods lack the power to put the brakes on bigger fish. The origin is a nicer rod with a softer tip which works the smaller jigs better but it doesn’t have the same amount of power. I’ll take it out in my next jigging trip and put some footage up of it in action for ya 👌🏻

@@Micksgonefishing Mean thanks for that. Im from NZ, so bigger fish is also on the cards for us. I will end up getting the element PE3 for slow pitch jigging, and the origin for slow jigging kaburas.its the fact that i like the acid wrap guides.

@Micksgonefishing
@Micksgonefishing 2 жыл бұрын
Was fishing an isolated rock in 38m with rubble around it. I lined up the rock and drifted the rubble and soft coral leading up to and behind it. Most of the trout come from harder structure on a mark nearby..

@@Micksgonefishing Wow, never heard of them being that deep. Do you only do that on smaller tides like on the weekend? And what jigs were you using?
@Micksgonefishing
@Micksgonefishing 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I stumbled across them in deep water a few years ago up north from here and have been trying to target them consistently locally ever since. I get a lot of smaller 60-70cm fish in shallower water but it’s these 80+ models which I’m keen to learn more about. Can’t really comment on the tides, this was filmed a while ago on fairly big tides, I’ve caught them here and in different areas on big and small tides and I’ve still got alot to work out… as for the jigs this was a Slow Blatt 80S which is one of my go to jigs on harder to get species, I’ve also had a lot of success on fingers with the Slow Blatt 100R. The better jigs definitely seem to get more bites!

Great video 👍 Interesting to watch the two different jigging styles: your more 'aggressive ' style definitely got the fish excited. Does this action much put strain on the gear? Do you change the way you fish for lighter gear/jigs?
@Micksgonefishing
@Micksgonefishing 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, doesn’t put any extra strain on your gear I believe. I service my own reels but haven’t noticed any wear on them, I’ve got 2 Ocea jiggers and one is 6 years old and as smooth as when I bought it. The fish on the day respond differently but I find a more aggressive walk the dog action gets reaction bites whether they’re hungry or not..
