I love the idea of a reverse diet. I realized I have been on a cut forever. Went from 1500 calories to 1750, cut out cardio, maintained my weight at that. Now I am adding 200-300 calories to see if I can still maintain my weight. We will see. Love "forcing" myself to eat. Heehee Wish me luck. Also, love the busy day food plan...😁 I think a lot of people are super busy and don't have time to be creative all the time. Love both aspects.

Good morning missfitandnerdy. Thank you for another great vid. Questions though, would a reverse diet influence some inflammation due to the added carbs or would the resistance training offset potential inflammation?? I'm still a bit confused on "good" carb affects and "bad" carb affects.

I’m almost positive I’m not eating enough for how much I’m exercising but because I’m not actively hungry all the time I had assumed it was fine. So interested that you said the body can feel full even when you’re not eating enough for your goals just because it’s not used to eating enough, that blew my mind. I really hope I can afford your course when it comes out I’d love to embark on a reverse dieting journey to try and heal my metabolism and my hormones

Yeah, it’s unfortunate I’ve seen a lot of people try to increase their calories from very low calorie intakes like 900 calories per day and by the time they get to 1200 cal, they’re feeling super full so they think they fixed the problem. But in reality 1200 cal isn’t enough for 99% of people

That's so true eating more calories gives you more energy to do a better workout I've experienced that shortly after increasing my calories after years and years of eating under 2,000 calories despite having a very active lifestyle, I started doing jumping exercises to help strengthen my bones, jumping up and down ,, jumping side to side,, jumping across the room ,, jumping like a frog,, hopping on one foot then switching to the other and I can definitely say eating more calories has given me the strength I need to not only do my jumping exercises but also my walking and my strength training while I'm trying to gain muscle and build bone density 🙏🏻🦴💪🏻

It is really amazing how you can eat that much and bravo for spreading this news. I can’t wait for your program to come out!! I do understand and believe in the process, but there’s that little part of me that is cynical and says ‘yeah but people who can eat that much just have a naturally fast metabolism.’ It makes me wonder if everyone can speed up their metabolism (within reason of course. I’m sure there are the x% with outlying problems.).

Hey Marissa, firstly you are amazing and I get so much out of your down-to-earth & amusing videos. I love this one so much and it's exactly what I need right now but I could reaaaally so with some advice from you... I lost my period last year. It was a pressurized time in my life and I think this is what contributed to the HA since I was not intentionally dieting/increasing exercise. Anyway, unfortunately I did lose weight and am struggling to gain it back again since I feel fuel so quickly. My BMI is normal but at the lower end. I have stopped cardio (big for me, I'm super active/sporty). Instead, I'm focusing on slow & controlled weight/resistance sessions and don't plan to stop, since I'm enjoying it so much. I want/need to speed my metabolism up big time! My question - you suggested increasing calories slowly because if the increase is too large, these calories may be stored as fat. What about me? Should I keep increasing my food gradually or because I reaaaally would love my period back, should I just jump in there and eat as much as possible? Thank you sososo much, Marissa

I really wanted to do a reverse diet and ended up going into a binge. Do you have advice on what do do after a period of binging? So commonly the idea is to restrict and I know that doesn't work ether. How do you figure out your healthy calories after a time period of being high calories?
@Angelathibert1
@Angelathibert1 2 жыл бұрын
Hope you don’t mind me giving some pieces of advice I’ve learned! Don’t punish yourself for the binge. Fitness journeys are HARD, so don’t look at it as failing if you tried to reverse diet and ended up bingeing. In my opinion, it’s worse to “over compensate” after a binge by training harder/ eating less… then you’ll get in a habit of yo-yo-ing every time this happens. And that’s not healthy physically/mentally or sustainable! The best thing is to turn the page and just start the next day on track. A bit of a binge isn’t going to lose all your progress, so just eat/train back on track going forward.

I'm just starting a reverse diet! I was working with a dietician for about 6 weeks, but it just resulted in ED-like behavior. I told her right off the bat that I was maintaining obesity at 1100 calories and I thought my metabolism was broken because it had been like that for a year. She didn't listen and told me to cut starches. 6 weeks later, no changes except my attitude toward food had worstened and my energy plummeted. So I dropped her and I'm now up to 1400 calories. Reverse dieting is gonna be *hard* as a vegetarian, though. Even my protein sources are high in fiber, so I get satiated pretty quickly. Plus I have fibromyalgia so I'm concerned about how much I'm going to be able to do to put on some muscle. Anyway, I think it's good timing that I'm reverse dieting through the holidays. I'm looking at hitting 2000 by the end of the year. I might plan reverse diets Oct-Dec every year!

I thought I had asked all my questions about reverse dieting, BUT….I have one more question. Do you suggest any changes in reverse dieting when you have PCOS?? I am 4”10 and I always LOVED carbs and never had a problem losing weight on a high carb diet. But I lost a lot of hair and muscle. My doctor recommended to reduce carbs but idk what that means. I had maybe about 300g of carbs a day back then and I reduced it to like 150g but I had no energy. I am now up to 225 and feel great! My hormone levels are great despite the PCOS. So now, that I want to reverse diet, would I be in a safe place to increase my carbs any more than I am now? Or should I be more protein and fat focused on my reverse diet to keep the PCOS as controlled as possible? Hope you get this question! Thanks for the vids!

Since you have PCOS there is a high probability that you are insulin resistant. It normally takes a while before health issues pop up. I would not add any more carbs if you wish to bulk. You really should try to reduce your carbs. It takes a bit of time but as you become more fat adapted your energy will not only return, but it will improve.

I lift heavy twice a week and have definitely been feeling better in the gym and not feeling sick when I lift which is amazing...but I have also gained 10 pounds since starting this process! I'm currently trying to figure out what a reverse diet would look like for me, so I have a question. How do you know, (if you have been dieting for a while and your metabolism has probably adapted to a lower maintenance), up to how many calories do you have to increase your intake? I mean I can have some sort of idea of what my maintenance should be if I want to be in a healthy range for my body, but how can you really know when you should just stop upping those cals?

I would love to know how long do we keep increasing calories? I have been reverse dieting after watching the reverse dieting playlist from 1600 to 2000 a day (that’s where I am right now) I’ve been the same weight since January and I feel a bit of a plateau should I increase again? I do want to ultimately get to 2300 a day at least… BUT I’m BOTH super scared of cutting and losing muscle, and increasing more and not being able to fit in my clothes anymore-I manages to stay the same clothes size mostly since the last 400 calorie increase.. tho I am bigger I’m just wondering what you would advise to get my resolve up to keep going?

i have a reverse diet question for you~ i just finished a reverse diet of my own that went from January to the last day of April and now i'm cutting. I was doing +50 calories a week and strength training 4ish times a week, and i stayed on my target (2500) for 3 weeks at the end. I'm now cutting on 2000 and doing mini cut cycles, but with how the timing worked out, i'm now out of college for the summer and working 80ish hours a week so i can only really strength train around 2 times a week--my question here is: is 2500 my maintenance Regardless of exercise, or is it my maintenance when i'm working out 4x a week? as in do the exercise calories contribute to my maintenance being 2500 or should that just be my body's baseline on any given day?
@MissFitAndNerdy
@MissFitAndNerdy 2 жыл бұрын
No, it's not regardless of exercise. If you decreased exercise then your maintenance goes down. But it shouldn't go down that much. Let's do the math: If you cut back on training by 2 days/week, let's say that you were training 2 hours those days. So now you're training 2 fewer hours. In 1 hours of resistance training, you'd burn around 300-500 calories. Let's call it 400. So in 2 hours, you're burning 800 calories. Dividing that by 7 to get the calorie reduction per day, you get 114 calories. So your maintenance now is probably closer to 2385. But also, 3 weeks might not be enough time to spend at your new maintenance before cutting. I usually recommend 2-3 months. You might struggle to lose weight and undo your reverse diet progress if you cut right now
@vyshnavim2967
@vyshnavim2967 3 ай бұрын
How to increase the calorie intake gradually? I saw your previous videos and I am still confused if you meant increase 50 calories everyday in a week and then increase it to 100 the next week and increase further later on, or, increase 50 calories in total for a week and increase to 100 in total for the next week and so on?

If your metabolism is slow then I recommend starting with reverse diet. But if you have never dieted before, chances are you have a pretty average metabolism. So you can just start with a standard calorie deficit. No need to do an extreme diet like keto

So about 7 months ago I stopped working and have gone up just 2-3 pounds in that time. I’m not heartbroken but I also wouldn’t mind dropping those 2-3 pounds. I would most likely go the route of a very small deficit but even with that I feel hunger and can’t sleep all night without needing a snack. How do you manage a deficit and still get good sleep? I wish I had the problem of not feeling hungry 😋
@MissFitAndNerdy
@MissFitAndNerdy 2 жыл бұрын
First, how small is small? A lot of people recommend a 500 cal deficit but that’s much bigger than most people need. If you’re in a 10 to 15% deficit and still feeling so hungry that you can’t sleep, I will look at your macros. Make sure you’re prioritizing protein, getting enough fat, and getting enough fiber. If you’re eating enough of all of those, then you should consider it being mostly psychological hunger.
