I've finally finished the Wrenn W2230 Bo-Bo Class 20 refurbishment. It's time to run it in properly on the Vintage Tri-ang Super 4 Layout. Also the lovely Tri-ang Hornby Britannia R.259NS Is up and running now. I hope you enjoy seeing these both on the tracks. Thanks for looking

Beatties, fond memories of my father treating me to a visit to their shop via Holborn underground when visiting family in London. Fabulous memories and thanks for sharing.

A success all round by the look of it. The Wrenn looks very nice with it's shiny handrails and runs beautifully. The Britannia is a very impressive locomotive but I have never liked the amplified sound of a piece of metal scraping against sand paper 😊 I have an Albert Hall and I removed the 'Exhaust Steam Sound' before I even ran it haha. It should be interesting to see what you uncover when you examine the noisy motor. The perennial problem of random noisy motors. 😊

The exhaust sound is a strange item. I guess it was thought to be a good idea but it was a phase that passed quickly. I'm going to take a look at the motor soon. Take care, all the best to you

Another excellent video. The wren class 20 seems to be going quite well now shes had a little tune up. As does the brittania. I always liked the old catalogues with the Cuneo paintings. Im told that on every one of his paintings. There is always a little mouse painted in somw where. Regards Ted

I don't think all the Tri-ang catalogue covers with these paintings show the whole picture. I have spent time mouse hunting myself. Thanks for looking, all the best to you

Blimey ! This confirms it! My tender drive 70000 really must be a 1971 Margate prototype since in that 1972 catalogue they specifically state that all the driving wheels are flanged, and mine are not. TBH I have a clear preference for loco drive. If it wasn’t so unusual I’d be tempted to fit an XO4. The sound on yours is excellent now you’ve swapped the motor !

You definitely have something special there. The tender drive models run well I find. Take care, best regards to you

An interesting look at the evolution and pricing of the Britannia class in the catalogues Jonathan. I haven't run mine for a while but I think it is quite noisy. Your 5 pole ball raced motor certainly quietened the running on yours. I look forward to seeing more Britannia running in the next few weeks. The Bo-Bo looked great and I too caught the shine on the handrails as it passed through the far station. Regards, David.

I think these models in general are a bit noisy but they are a thing of their time. I am sure I'll be able to quieten down the original motor a little. Take care, all the best to you

Yes, mine growled just like that, I thought it was quite normal... didn't know any better. The year the ringfield came out, I plumped for the Brush type 4 which hacked off the old man. I remember it was £10 exactly!!

That Type 4 is a lovely loco, I should get mine out for a run. Thanks for watching, all the best to you

Great video, with the x04 motors I've replaced the rear bearing with Great success in reducing noise . This might sound daft but I've found that the later bronze coloured carbon brushes make more noise depending on which locomotive there in, all the best.

I have found as well it tends to be the rear bearing that makes noise most of the time. It's good to hear you've had success upgrading your motors. All the best to you

Great Session. Thanks for the tips for the handrails. I recently did a video on repairing and repainting a coronation class and now I know what to do to get the handrails in better shape. 👍 The Britannia is one of my favourite Tri-ang Steam Engines. Stay safe Mon

Thanks for watching Mon, I hope you have fun improving your hand rails. They are delicate but wire wool works well I found. Best regards to you

Then again the rate of Inflation was 9.44% in 1971; 7.13% in 1972 and 9.1% in 1973. PLus have a nice new - and expensive - Fleischmann copy motor. So add all this together and a £3 increase probably works out

Yes, you are right about the economic turmoil in the early 1970's. I bet everything was increasing in price. I think the model was probably still good value. Thanks for looking, all the best to you

Hello, you can either buy proper Seuthe Smoke oil or try other Mineral Oils. I have had some success with Johnsons Baby Oil. If you are at all worried I'd stick with the recommended oils. Thanks for looking, all the best to you
