It’s nice to finally see a Pokémon channel focus on not just the values of Base set cards. I’m so tired of retro Pokémon cards being looked at as just $$$. Thanks for doing stuff like this.

same, im trying to find out which of the new sets are most fun to play with in terms of balance and meta game and i can only find vidoes on "omg, what cards can i pull ?" .... to sell

@@TrickyGym i don't really play the pokemon tcg, but i am an avid limited player in mtg and seeing a cube in other tcgs is really neat. Also, i know magic has become more and more about the finance side of things, but i appreciate when someone focused on gameplay first in their tcg content too, so thumbs up for that. As a 90s kid, the new 152 set triggers my nostalgia, so i might actually try and build a cube from that set once it releases

I love using weak Pokémon when drafting just makes the battles feel more comfortable and balanced instead of one hit KO's everywhere

These types of videos give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. You know the one. Its saturday morning, you stumbled down the staircase in an extreme tempo to make it to the cupboard to get your cereal and speeded your way over to the TV after picking up the milk at mach speed just in time to watch cartoons. Thank you for all your hard work on these videos. They really mean the world to me. They bring me back to simpeler times, I might be too poor to support you but know damn well that Ive been paying with smiles from the background.

i absolutly love this !! i had on mind the same idea using proxies to play with wife and kid but this is absolutly well polished, i love this format and it makes so much sens to print proxies and play in family without the need to print every card in the gen1 era thank you for showing this

Nice format dude! I was always looking something similar which allows you to use only the cards from the early sets. I love it. Also the way you choose the cards for your deck. I wish TCGO has this kind of alternatives to play. Would be really good. Propose to them! lol

A card to consider is Machop from Base Set. It can function as sort of a weaker 5th Hitmonchan, since Low Kick and Jab are mechanically identical.

I love this, but the old wotc stuff is so expensive! have you ever thought about putting together a cube list for more modern cards? maybe some cool cards that just dont see play in the meta because they arnt strong enough?

SINGLETON IDEA PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. You pick an supporter and an ace pokemon. The supporter is your trainer. You may use that as your supporter per turn and you don't discard it. The ace Pokemon can go out at any time to the bench or active. If it gets knocked out it returns to the ace position face down for a turn. If it has an ability you can use it at any time from the ace spot as long as it would be legal otherwise (when put to the bench from hand when only activate when moved from the ace position to the bench or active for example, Absols ability that increases retreat is always on so it would apply from there, etc). No evolution required for the ace. No prize cards. Instead you turn a pokemon upside down and put all attached cards to the discard. You lose when all your pokemon are knocked out. Any cards that put a pokemon from the discard to hand or deck now act as revives. If all 5 spots on the bench are full you can no longer place pokemon except with a scoop up item. Your ace pokemon cannot swap spots with any pokemon and can only move to the playfield or off. Let me know what you think. Ive tried it and even without mutant evolution rules it worked surprisingly well for a pokemon singleton format.

Im curating pokemon cards for my cube. It's going to be Jumpstart format, where you draft 15 card mini decks, choose 4 of the ones you draft, and smash them together. The 15 card mini decks will have evolutions, trainers, energy etc to support the pokemon theme.

have you heard of winston draft? at first it seems like a joke, but its honestly a really fun format that i play with my friends. some of my favorite games were from shuffling an expanded tinachomp deck with a zoroark deck.

I kind of agree. I liked the DPPt format the most though. When I look at the game today the matches are over so quickly. Most Pokémon give up two or three prizes.

@@MaddyBird666 You've got a point. It's got to keep evolving. But the power creep is real. I stopped playing my last year of high school (or the Swedish equivalent at least) when the second Black & White set came out. I've been checking up on the game every other year to see what's going on and I can't really say I like what I see. That's why I think it's nice that there's a channel like Tricky Gym which spices things up with old school games every now and then. :)

Might want to make this higher then 80 Cards. If you split piles 2 vs 4 cards enough ones deck will be significantly below 40

I enjoyed watching this. But I’m confused why the ditto got knocked out. Transform is a poke-power, not a poke-body, so can’t it only be triggered when the ditto has an opportunity to attack? He also has the option to not use it either. Was this a balance change?

Could you do this for 3 people with 120 cards? Draft 12 cards at a time into 3 packs and just rotate who divides cards and then 1st, 2nd and 3rd pick? I suppose drafting could take a lot longer with more decisions to make but should still work?

Yes you can do this with 3 people! There are different drafting rules for three but yes If you boost the counts of everything it’ll definitely work for 3

On CubeKoga there is a 1v1 6oHP Set that bumped the number up to 120 Cards(rather than the 80 of Mahone's), and a similar Cube built around Zroark-GX that also was 120 but also gives each player 3-3 Zorark-GX lines and 3 DCE. So it sounds like 120 and up is the sweet spot for 6- Prize Cubes for 2 players.

Wouldn't Scyther just be the best because it has a fighting resistance, is weak to nothing, and almost nothing resists grass? Maybe not the best, but it doesn't seem to have a bad match except for Mr. Mime.

That was the point, Dodrio is powerful for their format, so it was better to block it off for both than for one to have it.

pokemon draft is strange since, unlike mtg, packs are not made to be draftable. how do prereleaes work?

Starting a few years ago, players are given an evolution kit that has some pokémon and trainers in it, and you supplement with a few packs to build a 40 card deck.

In Pokemon, you would go to an LGS, pay 25 USD for your spot and what we call a Build and Battle box/prerelease kit. Depending on the set the pre-release is for, it will come with 4 packs of that set and one of four promos with the set stamp on it with some other useful cards that will basically be your starting point and tell you what your deck will be about. From that you build a 40 card deck rather than 60 since its a prerelease and your LGS should provide energy. When in game you also only use 6 rather than 4 prizes and usually in the tournament it's 3 rounds and whoever has the best record wins but winning a pre-release isn't too too big.

Not necessarily, most of the packs come with at max 2 of the good trainers plus the little pack with the promo, depending on the promo vomes with different cards, differennt suppory Pokemon and trainers. I would recommend watching a Build and Battle Box opening on KZfaq so you understand.

Basic evolution Pokemon. ( 3 basics per evolution line) 4. Trainers (10 per deck) and Items (10 per deck) (2 per copy) 5. Only 8 special energy's (2 per copy) 6. All stadium count as items (2 per copy) 7. All Poke- Bodies and Abilities are counted as Abilities. 8. Baby Pokemon ( 1 per deck) 9. Banned List: TBA

anyone else get uncomfortable seeing two people that close without masks? Not even saying they're being unsafe cuz i have no clue if they live together or whatever. But my brain is so broke that seeing these dudes without masks is like watching them play without shirts or something. Anyway this concept and the video is really cool!!
