Union General hospital is a good hospital, probably the best one in the area. The one in Blue Ridge (Fannin General) closed and now it’s a stand alone ER and no beds for admission of patients. Blairsville is a nice town. I used to live next to it in Morganton, now I live in the Smokies. I still work EMS in the area part time and bring patients to Union General. A lot of ppl get lost in those mountains and search and rescue in the area is common these days.

I was just telling my wife today that I had not heard from you since your video in the hospital and I was concerned about your health. So glad to see your video today that you are back home safe, and everything is under control. What an incredible story! If you remember, I am the guy from the Southern Tier of New York a few hours south of you. I loved the part of the rescue team cutting trails in towards the shelters. That is proactive and a good, think ahead department. I am a volunteer fire/rescue first responder in Tioga County, and I know the training we go through so I know how well trained this team must be to get you out in one hour. In a previous video, I was the one that told you I was having open heart surgery in Syracuse and would update you on my status. Well, I made it through the surgery 3 weeks ago and am doing fine and already out rehab walking a mile per day and hope by summer, like you to be back on the FLT. My best wishes for you Frank for a full recovery and getting back on the trail!

With your love of the trail and your determination, you will be back on trail soon and you will make it next time, God willing. P.S. I must be a trooper and a masochist, as you say, since I did watch your whole video. It was very compelling. I started my hike in January, and I am still out here. There go I before the grace of God. Every day I can be out here is a blessing, but it is not assured. My hopes are Katahdin bound, and I wish the same for you when the time comes. You can do it!!

Hero's don't always wear a cape. They can be an individual like yourself pursuing a dream, a goal, an adventure. Sharing that spirit with others. You have hit a challenge and worked it through. You have embraced the suck and reflect back on it with fondness and plans to overcome it next time. I have dreamed of an AT thru hike and get inspiration that it's not yet from my grasp from you. A hero as large as the ER team that helped you over your challenges. You help me. I will continue to follow you, and Plan my own AT journey. Keep putting one foot in front of the other!
@frankdotyjrАй бұрын
Hello Ironduck5888...I'm humbled and honored by your word!! Thank You!!! My plans to continue with my dream were given new hope from the newest doctor on my team just last week. He's my cardiologist and I follow his advise 100%. Yes...there's more news about what happened to me out there on the trail that I just haven't had time to release yet. I huge portion of that news took me by total surprise!! I will be updating my status soon, but the joy of getting cleared to go back the "Ups & Downs" training has me just buzzing!!! Now, lets talk about you! I don't know anything about you but if you hung in this long with me, than I'd bet you sink your teeth into something and don't let go. I'd encourage you, regardless of age or fitness, to do as I did and get your doctor's honest opinion of your plans. I was 2 years planning and training before I headed out on trail. JUST one thing was missed by my doctor, who I no longer consult with, and that 1 thing ended my 1st attempt at the AT. DETAILS matter and planning is critical. Follow your dream and be a hero for someone out there you've never met...just like us!! Peace!! 😎👍✌
