Fun fact: Several decades after the film's release, Lee Fierro, who played Mrs. Kintner, walked into a seafood restaurant and noticed that the menu had an "Alex Kintner Sandwich." She commented that she had played his mother so many years ago; the owner of the restaurant ran out to meet her, and he was none other than Jeffrey Voorhees, who had played her son. They had not seen each other since the original movie shoot.

You need to see Jaws 2, not as good as this one but still good. Jaws 3 is very poor, one to give a miss, Jaws Revenge is good, a lot of people criticise it but I enjoyed. Give them a go James, 3 I wouldn’t recommend, very bad.

Yes! And the plan was for the shark to be seen much more than it was. Now everyone lauds the film for not showing the shark much at all, but that wasn't by choice at the time, that was because they couldn't get the fecking mechanical shark (named Bruce) to work properly.

A true testiment to how a movie holds up, when you see someone watch it almost 50 years after it was made and still enjoy it as much as you did! I've been waiting for this reaction since I joined your patreon. I saw it when I was 5 or 6, it is my favorite movie of all time, and 100% the reason I am a film fanatic. And this is the movie that basically started Steven Speilberg's career. I could talk about it for hours but I won't bore you to tears. I will, however, recommend a movie with Richard Dreyfus (Hooper) later in his career called Mr. Holland's Opus. It is another one of my favorites, very different type of movie than this one, it's a drama about a high school music teacher, and one of the few that can make me tear up, so when you go back to dramas again, I would highly recommend that one!

I'm sad that so few leave in their reaction to my favorite scene in the film, which is Brody and his son making faces at each other at the dinner table, while Ellen's watching. It arguably doesn't add much to the plot but it highlights all the things that make Brody a unique action protagonist, he's mild mannered, sensitive and caring and Al these qualities make him a protector. He faces his fears not because of some lifty ideal (I absolutely do love loads of protags who fight for ideals too) but because he wants the people around him to be safe. It's also showcases the film's other strength: all of it's characters feel rich and alive. Which is something even a lot of other great classics can't always say.

During the making of the film they couldn't get the mechanical shark to work right for about the first half of the film so Steve Spielberg had to work around the missing great white shark. To Spielberg's credit as a great director, not seeing the shark really built suspense in the audience's mind! The crew named the shark Bruce after Spielberg's lawyer, LOL! I was 16 when our family went to see this summer blockbuster together. I'll never forget the whole theater's reaction when missing fisherman Ben's decomposing head pops through the hole in the hull of the boat -- everybody in the theater jumped about 3 feet back in their seats. Scared the heck out of everyone. We lived in a beach town, and it surely made you stick closer to shore for that summer, LOL! What a great movie. John Williams composed the iconic score, he's an American treasure, as is Steven Spielberg. Suggest you see Roy Scheider in 2010: The Year We Make Contact, sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey - see 2001 first of course!

They did an amazing job w/the mechanical shark - even though it didn't work most of the time during filming. That's why we don't see much of it... but in this case, less is definitely more. People can say what they want, but imho the practical effects from the 70s and early 80s is miles better than modern CGI.

Fun Facts: Contrary to popular belief Susan Backlinie who played Chrissie (the first victim) didn’t break ribs during the scene. I met Backlinie at convention several years back & she explained what had actually happened. Due to her background as a stuntwoman, she knew exactly how deal with the force being applied to the harness that was used to drag her through the water. She’d spoken with the grips & explained she was going to go all out with her performance. The scene in the pond with the rowing boat was originally much longer / gory. During the tracking shot, where the camera passes Michael, the guy from the rowing boat is in the sharks mouth; vomiting blood & grabbed hold of Michael. Let’s just say the audience reaction resulted in it being cut 😂 A lot of the extras were actually residents of Martha’s Vineyard. Also, Jaws was filmed September / October & you can see cast members shivering in certain scenes.

Every time, I smile at the end. At the beginning of the hunt, Captain Quint calls Hooper's tanks and equipment: "Real fine expensive gear". Not a glowing endorsement. Hooper later sees Quint trying to shoot the shark with a rifle and he says: "Don't waste your time, Quint. Come on." After the tanks get 'revenge' on Quint for calling them real fine expensive gear (by making Quint slide into the jaws of the shark), Quint gets vindicated too, as Brody has to use both Hooper's air tank AND Quint's rifle to kill the shark. Subtle foreshadowing, but it works out great.

Oscar Winner, Tony Winner, a lot of his movies are sleepers, but worth a watch for sure. Let It Ride and Moon Over Parador are two good examples. Both are a hoot.) Roy Scheider's biggest other movie was the sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey, 2010: The Year We Make Contact, where had the lead. Every time I see a shot in a film with the camera being the POV and following/approaching someone, I have to go "Dun-dun - dun-dun - dun dun dun dun . . ." In movies, ninety percent of the time is really is a killer/ predator/ monster sneaking up on a victim. Our Dad took us to see JAWS in 1975. When the main trio are comparing scars on the Orca, Chief Brody lifts his shirt for a moment to reveal a barely visible line. The whole theater burst out laughing. I asked, "What's so funny?" My Dad explained that it was an appendix scar, which is apparently the wimpiest scar a human being can possess, and it was ludicrous that he contemplated entering it in the terrible injuries competition.

He also plays a supporting role in one of my favorite political comedies "The American President", and a recent action comedy "RED".

Richard Dreyfuss won an Oscar for The Goodbye Girl soon after Jaws, a romantic comedy. The comedy What About Bob? is sidesplittingly funny and stars Dreyfuss and Bill Murray (Ghostbusters). Robert Shaw starred in the Oscar winner The Sting, with Robert Redford and Paul Newman. When you think about it, Quint's death by shark had been postponed for almost exactly 30 years.

Another fun fact: During the filming of jaws, there was a nearby mysterious death. A woman found with her hands cut off, dead on a beach. Stephen king’s son identified an extra in the movie who not only matched the description of the dead woman, but had the clothing the extra was wearing found near her corpse. May be coincidence, but still interesting.

Ron and Valerie Taylor from Australia did all the real shark scenes - Valerie had at one stage 'befriended' a White Pointer [as we used to call them Down Under]. There are some really good documentaries and clips of Ron and Valerie and how they have tried over their lives to educate people on sharks : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/btNhm9ugp7-6noE.html In the opening scene almost every coastal dwelling Aussie was going nooooo! You never swim at dawn or dusk - prime shark feeding time. Glad you enjoyed it. Spielberg wanted to use the mechanical shark more but "Bruce", as it was dubbed, kept breaking down. The special effects still hold up well.

Awesome reaction! Fun fact: the composer, John Williams, when he had a cameo in The Last Skywalker... the props department had props made that represented all the movies he did that were nominated for an Oscar. For Jaws, they made hand-held sized barrels in bronze, three of them, just like the yellow ones in the movie.

One of the things I enjoy so much from this is the fact it's all just so innocent. Being able to watch u react to movies old and new that are so good... u bring a whole new level of new since u didnt watch any movies at all. @@AwesomeUSMovies -- actually, it doesn't look all that different.. The Chief's house was renovated so it changed. Quint's "shack" was more or less built for the film so that only existed for a very short time. When Hooper asks the fishermen if there's a good restaurant on the island and they tell him to "walk straight ahead".. They weren't kidding. Straight up the street from the dock area is a pub called "The Wharf". And inside you can get some darned good food and hang out with Jeffery Voorhees who played little Alex.

JAWS and JAWS 2 are worth the watch. Roy Cheider , who played Brody, Murray Hamilton (The Mayor) and Lorraine Gary (Mrs Brody) are in JAWS 2. Don't waste your time with 3 or 4. My favorites for each of them are Roy Scheider (Brody) was in a really good movie called "The French Connection", Robert Shaw (Quint) was in "From Russia With Love", which is a 007 James Bond movie, and Richard Dreyfuss (Hooper)...Close Encounters of The 3rd Kind, American Graffiti, What about Bob, and Mr. Hollond's Opus just to name a few.

Fun fact: A real shark saved the life of Dreyfuss' character. A miniature shark cage was designed for a small man about 4 feet tall to represent Hooper and make the shark appear that much bigger. A real shark got caught in the cables, before the little man had a chance to enter the cage. Spielberg loved the footage so much it was kept in the movie, and Hooper survived, even though his character dies in the novel.
