@@javiermejia9209 There are more wrestlers at 170 than at 185, that makes a difference. And MVP isn't quite the KO artist that Alex is. But the main reason I don't think he'll be champ is that the UFC will not want it. He's not a big enough name to be the face of the division, and at his age he's very close to the end. Wouldn't make sense building him up to a championship fight. If he wins or loses he's not gonna stick around. Most likely they'll give him one or two more fights that he has a chance in against gatekeeper level guys, then give him a rising star that is a bad matchup on his way out. I'm sure that's what he expects, he's not stupid. They must be paying him enough that it's worth it. And who knows, he could win. But they'll stack the deck against him at a certain point.

The UFC would be daft not to book the Colby fight while it's red-hot. I think most of us would be willing to give Garry a pass on this one for the sake of a much better option.

I know Uncle Chael can go left on some topics but here I actually agree with him. Rankings to me are just a way to sell fights to the casual fan and boost popularity. But once you're in the mix I think fighting against anyone else in the mix and winning only elevates your record and status once you reach the championship. So if I'm Garry and say I beat MVP and Colby in my next two fights my billing come the title fight is only better than compared to right now sitting on potential fight.

Chael, you can speak to this and let me know if my logic is correct as you are a competitor with actual experience. Do the rankings give fighters tunnel vision? Ian for example, undefeated with a great record but no title shot yet. When he looks at the rankings and sees those above him, does he get blinded by the desire to prove what he believes about himself by wanting to fight those that have been deemed better than him by the mma Illuminati putting out these rankings? I believe by sheer competitive nature, these fighters have to see these rankings and feel the desire to prove them wrong or right depending on their spot in them.

While it’s a great fight, it’s going to be hard to get Ian Garry off the Colby fight which puts him right up there if he wins. Logic speaking it’s the right thing not to fight him. Welterweight division some thought was lacking after Usman lost, probably one of the strongest divisions now.

This could MAYBE apply to anyone who has been in the UFC welterweight division for more than 1 fight but MVP has a proven track record in other promotions and the only reason he is ranked lower than Ian is because he only has that 1 fight. MVP's rank doesn't mean shit atm and Ian is high to think that he could ever win against Burns, Maddalena, Colby, Shavkat, Belal, Usman, or Leon if he fights like he did against Neal.

It's not a good matchup for Ian. He knows it, and because of the way UFC is set up, he's allowed to dodge fights. I enjoy watching MMA more than any other sport, but the fact that wins/losses don't really matter and championships are based on whatever the bosses want makes it seem illegitimate compared to other sports. I'm sure the NFL would prefer the Superbowl to be the cowboys and Giants every year, because that's what sells. But sports should be about whoever is best at that time and moment gets the chance, and that's the biggest problem with the UFC. Plus judging lol
