The Ibanez AD9 Analog Delay Effect Pedal uses a compander with pre- and de-emphasis for an exceptionally clean delay. Time and level controls allow mixing between dry and delayed signals. Repeat control lets you adjust the number of repeats without runaway. 2 outputs enable dry and delayed signals to be routed separately.

an analog delay is based on old tape delays: ever repeat has a little disturb, and i found that pretty nice! while a digital delay is a really delay: there's no disturbs, and the repeats are clean.

I have this pedal, and I like it a lot. It works really good for longer delay time. The feedback sort of covers the tone up a little bit, but in certain conditions that's really cool.

Can't wait to check out electro harmonix's memory boy. about time they came out with a stream lined version of the memory man. hopefully they don't charge near the same price.

@THECLAYSTER If you haven't already bought one i would recommend the Biyang AD-10, it has a much longer delay time than this, up to 1100ms and if you like the pink then you're also in luck! they're really cheap about £40 on ebay

They're about the same. I've played/owned both of them, then I got the Keeley modded AD9, and that one blows both of them out of the water.

DK's Police Truck. I love it! I'm considering getting a Crossfire Delay model as I'm happy with their range so far. A Distortion pedal is what I started out with. Any advice on Wah pedals for a starter type electric guitar package. "Cort Trailblazer"

Actually Malekko has analog delay pedals that do 600 ms and even one that does 900ms. Wether or not analog or digital delays 'sound better' is really up to the player and the style of music. If you want a darker, vintage/indie vibe from your delays, go analog. If you want bright, clean, Edge style delays, go digital. But that's just speaking generally.

Besides the audio quality (i think analog doesn't just sound 'better') digital delays offer longer delay times. Analog delays can never offer more than 300ms more or less, digital ones can offer 3 sec delay time

I'm looking for a Delay that goes up to something like 4 seconds, yeah really long, but I want to practice a lot with it and be able to hear the individual chords clearly at least 3 times. Anyone know what I'd need?

@Playerc0 Ok this is what's wrong with your comment. 1)what guitar player is going to look at your pedals to judge your playing. 2)people look at your guitar and they do not say he sounds bad because you have an Epiphone or something like that. 3)pink is cool anyway.

@SirPage90 Hey there, if you're looking for an analog delay I highly recommend the Malekko Ekko 616 pedal...it's the same price as the carbon copy ($150), but it has even more controls (variable modulation speed & depth). Plus it has a high-end buffer (for counteracting tone suck) and it just sounds great overall. Progutiarshop has a great review of it (of course). Also, if you're into experimental guitar tones, there is a "lofi" version of the Malekko delay. Good luck with your delay search!

it does sound a bit like that, i think it because his amp is a bit dirty and hes running it right into the amp which is distorting the delay. i run mine in the effects loop and the delays arent distorted like that. not sure why you would run a delay right into a dirty amp, but i think thats whats going on.

well, it is analog, but sound to me like he is also going through a slightly dirty sounding clean channel and pushing it, so the clean signal has a little drive, the delay is just doubling that into the amp.

that isn't true. Some people prefer the sharper sound and much longer delay time of digital pedals. I personally like a good mix of the warmth of analog and the bite of digital. The DD-3 is good at that. AD-9 sounds pretty nice but the max delay is short.

The ideal thing is to have the both on your pedal set. money for only one and play rock? buy a digital. It depends on the predominant music style you play.

Mine has trim pots. No one ever looks inside. You can make it sound better than the stock settings.

maximum 300ms but there are some inside pots you can mess with so it can reach 500ms(but the sound gets aufully distorted)

its pretty much a consensus that analog delay pedals sound a lot better than digital. digital pedals basically take the signal and break it down and run it through a computer as a digital signal (1s and 0s) and then process it into a sound signal again. analog pedals take the electrical signal from your guitar and run it through an analog circuit to change the sound. theyre more expensive but they tend to sound way better.

Putting it down to 20ms gives you doubling, which is fantastic. I'd sooner build the BYOC analog delay though. Much better IMHO.
