i thought the semi did a pretty solid job there too. he managed to avoid completely crushing both cars, and he mananage to stay pretty straight and upright while offroading through a median. it does suck for the cammer, but they both did a really great job at preventing a much worse accident.

exactly what I was thinking. especially with the median being a downward slope. semi could've easily fallen over if driver cut it too hard right.

Excellent from all involved no idea what caused the Semi to swerve but safe to assume some idiot lane changing without looking all concerned took no damage or only minor damage which is a miracle.

@@gravemind6536 In the rear view there’s a third vehicle on the median, I think that’s the one that made the semi driver swerve.

Right? I don't have limited mobility but I was crossing at a stop sign and a car (when I checked, wasn't close to the stop sign. He was just coming up on it while I was already crossing.) Squeezed right by me. Like right in front of me.

@@davej3781 They're meant to absorb an impact by deforming to bring a car to a stop more gradually to reduce the forces that occupants experience, so the posts are meant to bend and let go like that, especially on a lower speed road like that, their strength will be balanced against the expected speeds and weights of vehicles driving down it. They're just not designed to be constantly pulled on by HGV accelerating downhill. They will have experienced resistance when they initially caught on it, but pulled through when they likely floored it. As it's a curve and they were turning back on it, they were only pulling against 1 post at a time, so once they started popping them off, they kept going.

Those trucks have a safety feature in that shows us your speed and how close you are to us and automatically puts distance between you and me. But if you just so happen to just in front of us the truck hits the brakes by it's self.

I always felt they needed a drive-thru.

Low speed road means that style of barrier will have been engineered to deform under much lower forces than a motorway barrier. They're also designed to deflect vehicles, not be hooked up to by a powerful truck facing downhill that's likely flooring it in their attempt to get the trailer free, so it's having to deal with its weight and the engine. The curve doesn't help it withstand the force, as the truck will be pulling on a single post at a time, so there wasn't any hope of it standing.

It was built to an older standard, so not up to latest code at least. Trucker got off the road. Then he moved back and forth to try to get loose, damaging two mobile homes in the process, before ripping out those 330' of guardrail.
